Amazing news! So happy to hear Brittney Griner is freed! I have been following the story and prayed for her too. I also watched H&M doc and I believe they gracefully held back on what they endured out of respect for the late Queen's passing. They did well under the circumstances. I have a clear picture of what more they may have endured and what they never shared, I think we can all connect the dots.

My first job was with a telecom. They wanted a degree. Late 90’s entry pay was 38k. I left with a base of 60 and with OT would bring home 100k consistently. I dropped out after the 9th grade. I would take all of the tests to get that job. I would take the engineering test with my thought process being that even if I failed it, I would know what’s on the test and could study that. Passed it the 2nd and 3rd time. A few years later they dropped the degree requirement and I slid in. No degree, no diploma, no GED. They offered tuition reimbursement so I attended community college for 2 years. Didn’t get an associates. Left telecom went to airlines. I’ve been blessed to get decent jobs

Walmart is become full blown SELF CHECK OUT while raising prices already and still barely paying their employees, it’s a shyt show so when I go I’m in and out.. it’s no longer a pleasant shopping experience with them so they ain’t gon do nothing but send my azz to Target even more. They don't ask for degrees. Even having a degree doesn't necessarily get you hired. It's all about how you present yourself in the interview. I have sat in on interviews, and the resume didn't matter. We went with personality. Most jobs require training anyway, so they'll usually pick the person they feel best fits the culture.
I will say having a degree listed on a resume may heighten the chances of having your resume pulled, but our last hire only has a diploma and beat out degreed candidates. Experience helps, too.
Yes, I just interviewed a round of applicants. I read the resume but it’s how the person presented themselves (I give leeway for general nerves), how they were able to articulate prior work/handle certain situations that helped me determine whether they would be a good fit for my office/our agency. There were some that looked good on paper but it didn’t translate in person and they didn’t make the cut. You have to convey how you are an asset. Experience (like adaptability, time management, integrity, interpersonal skills, leadership) is key. We’ll teach our job but we don’t have time to teach you work ethic. A degree can be a bargaining tool for higher grade of pay if the job has levels but not enough to get you in the door.
*A third of our office has a HS diploma and makes $85K+ a year with time in.

I recently transitioned into Administtative Management, and they asked for ALL of my transripts. HS, College, even college courses I took in HS. At a certain level, they are going to ask, especially if you're black, and especially if your pay increases significantkly nto a whole new tax bracket. Most tech companies only hire college grads, starting pay is 125-150K. I worked in tech in HR.

I watched the Harry/Meghan special on Netflix and she said that she once was a daddy’s girl. There’s a lot of footage of them together even after the parent’s divorced. Harry shouldn’t blame themselves for their relationship shift. Dad did some things that just weren’t integral.

She said she and her mom didn’t discuss race and racism and I tried to figure out how she went through life without the discussion.
