    I would love to see a more in depth tutorial on how to properly setup a external audio to a front of house sound mixer or any other method you would use for a live setting. That seems to be my biggest question since there are multiple ways others use external audio outputs. I tried using my focusrite for an even tonight which I did get signal but it did not seem accurate at all. Id love any tips you have on properly setting up a focusrite for a live setting!

    I'm brand new to Resolume, but I have 40 years of production experience starting out as a DJ. Can I upload a music clip onto a layer? Thnx Sean

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can drop an audio file into a clip slot, as well as video files with or without audio

    • @VisualBeatLab
      @VisualBeatLab ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeanBowes Hey Sean I'm a bit confused on dragging and dropping the audio file on a layer. For example if I use Layer3 Column 1 for the audio file then I cant seam to select column 2 without loosing the audio.

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VisualBeatLab clips stop playing if another clip in the same layer (and a different column) is played. Clicking the column name triggers all clips in that column on all layers, which could have this effect. Triggering empty slots in a layer had the same effect of unloading the current clip in that layer.
      You can avoid this issue of stopping your clip by:
      Not using column triggers
      Rearranging your clips
      Setting your audio layer to ignore column triggers
      Or creating a group of layers and moving your audio layer outside of it, then using the column triggers inside the group.

    Is it possible to make a music video from footages reacting to the audio in Resolume only without after effects or Premiere pro? The idea is to have a consistent timeline, like in any editing program, which can be further adjusted if necessary. If not, what is the best way to organize the process of creating a music video?
    Previously, I tried to put everything together in the premiere or after effects, but linking to music there is not very convenient and takes a very long time, unlike resolume
    I will be very grateful if you answer and give advice on organizing the process

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is possible but it wouldnt be my first choice considering how you described your desired workflow. Resolume can record its output, and the recording tools are improving, but there is no timeline so you need to re-record every time you want to make an edit which might not be the most efficient process. Most music videos are created in a linear editor like premiere or final cut or with after effects. If you like resolumes audio reactivity and effects, You could possibly combine recording audio reactive effects on sections and loops in resolume and tweaking the final edits on the timeline in premiere or after effects. You could also use a tool like notch, smode, or touchdesigner for more realtime audio fx and basic timeline editing in one app. In general I think a combination of tools might be your answer in the end. Utilize each of their separate strengths and create a pipeline that works for you.

    Can you release a troubleshooting video on how to properly setup your focusrite device? Even though I followed your steps, Im still not getting any audio output to my focusrite and into my resolume. It does work when I aux my iphone though but never through my PC. Id like a more detailed video understanding how this works with resolume.

      Cause you can only select input in Resolume. You need to download something like a virtual cable and make your focusrite input as output.

    Hey Sean, thanks for another great tutorial! I'm having trouble though as for some reason the Audio Input device only shows 'No Input Device' - I have set up Multi Output Devices on my macs settings as I was used to using VDMX to play music out loud from my laptop and get VDMX to pick up the audio, is there a way of doing this with Resolume without having any extra bits? Thanks!

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some laptops have an internal microphone but if yours doesn’t you will need to plug in a usb mic or get an audio interface and plug a mic or audio line into that. You may be able to set up a virtual device and route it internally but I don’t know the specifics of that for Mac. If you aren’t seeing any input devices, double check your system audio settings to make sure you see one and another program isn’t using it.

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have it an effect parameter set to external FFT? Are you checking the FFT monitor to make sure you are seeing audio coming in? Does changing the BPM affect the effect parameter, or are they just similar by coincidence? Have you watched the entire video and followed all instructions?

    Do you know of a way to dialing in the live input to only react to the kick but not the bassline if they are too close or are overlapping on the frequency spectrum like it is the case in most psy trance tracks? Im struggling to find a solution for that and in the end always use bpm synced envelopes.

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  ปีที่แล้ว

      From a full mix, its pretty difficult. bpm envelopes are probably the way to go. If its more of an AV set type thing, maybe you could send the isolated kick stem separately, but for your average live dj gig its pretty tough to isolate.

    Sean what exact cables do we need for the audio interface and what settings do we need to have on it? On the device itself I mean. Do we connect it to the laptop through usb or from the headphone jack on the computer? Also, can I connect with this to a dj's controller? If so how? Thank you.

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am using the USB-C out from my interface to a usb into my resolume computer, and using a 1/8 in headphone to 1/4 inch audio cable to go from the output of the device playing the audio to the input of my audio interface. you could also use an xlr cable or a 1/4 in to 1/4 in cable in a more pro environment.

    Hi, I just found your channel looking forward to doing a deep dive. I have a question. Using a video clip (mov) is there any way to use External FFT to move the position (time) on the timeline (kinda like record skipping)? You did say you could animate anything using Audio Reaction, LOL.

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha pretty much anything! You can't directly affect the timeline with FFT natively, but you can use External FFT on Composition Speed or Group Speed which can have a similar effect.

    Nice vid! Are there parameters you like to use more than others? I always find myself just using a 4x4 or some variation of a beat envelope because it looks smoother than using reactivity on the kick

    • @SeanBowes
      @SeanBowes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great point, envelopes are often a cleaner result, but for unique rhythmic patterns audio can be useful. I dont use a ton of audio reactivity myself but I get a lot of questions about it! Fun to experiment with though. I like to use it for bass rumbles and things like that where the chaos might be welcomed.
