He was just a victim who wanted one of his abusers to feel the pain he felt, he loved being powerful and having the biggest dragon, I don't think he was evil but rather vengeful. He defeintly didn't want to start a war and I don't know if he felt bad about killing Luke but he's defeintly a complex character.
I don’t even think it’s that, it’s just that he understands what an irrevocable declaration of war upon the Blacks this is. He knows that Rhaenyra will now be seeking all out war out of revenge for her son, and he knows that this may very well blow back on him and his family too, and all because Vhagar was - quite literally - too big to handle.

I think even the "I want your eye"- part was nothing but a bluff. Aemond wanted to scare the shit out of Luke. He wanted revenge for all his humiliations in the past like the smirk at the dinner table. If he truly intended to cut an eye out of him, he wouldn't been that shocked after the kill.

I wouldn't say he was a scared kid. Sure he didn't have much power as a kid but he was still relatively smart and thoughtful. He was bullied and so that likely led him to have low self-esteem but he's certainly worked hard to remedy that.
I think it is really interesting that they played the first battle of dragons with the dragons have their own minds and disobeying orders. IT reinforces the whole "you cannot tame a dragon " really and I think it is so sad that Aemond shows how he didn't really mean for Luke's death, he just wanted to scare him, Aemond may look like a a whole ass man but he is really still a kid and the same age range as them. Aemond Targaryen he is so handsome, I couldn't believe it, how he lost his eye, it's a very big loss for him. They’ve been bullying each other back and forth for years, it wasn’t a clear cut bully/victim dynamic, the kids have been feuding since day 1. It may even be safe to say that since Aemond is a few years older, chances are he started it, but i guess we don’t know for sure. In the scene where he lost his eye he was literally holding a rock over Jacaerys, Luke (being very little) panicked and slashed him to protect his brother. And if i remember correctly Jace didn’t even pull out the dagger until after Aemond started using a rock, honestly he should’ve just taken the kiddy brawl beating as punishment for dragon stealing instead of turning it into actual combat Aemond has been f-cking around and crossing the line for years. You can’t smugly brag about taking those girls dead mother’s dragons right after her funeral, and spend years calling the boys b-stards (even if they are) and not expect to get f-cked up. They even said losing the eye was a small price to pay for what he did. HE was the one that got what he deserved. And from that day he SHOULD’Ve learned that taking big risks comes with consequences And he didn’t even learn his lesson cause what does he do? Continue to f-ck around and cross the line by taunting a little boy with a baby dragon, with his HUGE, experienced war veteran dragon. But this time Luke’s the one who has to suffer the consequences of Aemond being once again smug and reckless.

They’ve been bullying each other back and forth for years, it wasn’t a clear cut bully/victim dynamic, the kids have been feuding since day 1. It may even be safe to say that since Aemond is a few years older, chances are he started it, but i guess we don’t know for sure.
In the scene where he lost his eye he was literally holding a rock over Jacaerys, Luke (being very little) panicked and slashed him to protect his brother. And if i remember correctly Jace didn’t even pull out the dagger until after Aemond started using a rock, honestly he should’ve just taken the kiddy brawl beating as punishment for dragon stealing instead of turning it into actual combat
Aemond has been f-cking around and crossing the line for years. You can’t smugly brag about taking those girls dead mother’s dragons right after her funeral, and spend years calling the boys b-stards (even if they are) and not expect to get f-cked up. They even said losing the eye was a small price to pay for what he did. HE was the one that got what he deserved. And from that day he SHOULD’Ve learned that taking big risks comes with consequences
And he didn’t even learn his lesson cause what does he do? Continue to f-ck around and cross the line by taunting a little boy with a baby dragon, with his HUGE, experienced war veteran dragon. But this time Luke’s the one who has to suffer the consequences of Aemond being once again smug and reckless.

@@brennashae6085 Aemond was literally already lowering the rock, before Luke even slashed him. So no... Luke was 100% in the wrong there.
It was 4 against one as well during the fight and the 4 started the fight as well... they would have killed Aemond if he wouldn't have hold that rock.
