Top tip given to me by a pro. 'Film' is now free and results are instant. Learn the basics of what ISO, aperture and shutter speed do, take dozens of shots to learn what changes to these do to the photo and then learn how to change settings quickly.
Thanks for the info Martin, I've been out of photography for many years, it may be something I get back to at some point. my first camera was a Zenith, then moved onto an Olympus OM2 which has 35mm film I never moved over to the digital world. I did my brothers wedding some 20 years ago with that camera. Time to upgrade I think.. 🤔
Fantastic video, only use my phone camera atm until.i can get a half decent camera but having advice on shots and what to capture and look for and structure pictures on is great
Do you guys have a video showcasing how you get your amazing video footage for Planespotting videos? I’m looking to improve my videography and would love to see how you get your awesome footage 😁!
Great video tutorial. Just wondering what your thoughts are about file formats. Should you always shoot in RAW or does it not matter so much these days?
Personally I always shoot in RAW. This gives you much more flexibility when it comes to editing as it includes a lot more information. However shooting in JPEG is great for those who maybe don't have processing software, or a pc that can handle raw files
I don't have a camera however I have bought a nice 28x zoom lens for my phone! Great advice even though I don't have a camera yet😢! 😂 Thanks again though great video!! 😊
Great video… some useful tips Wondering what your thoughts are for settings when shooting high altitude overheads?? Seen some amazing shots of aircraft at FL340 etc… would love to try and get some of those on the odd day we get clear skies.
With overheads - unless you have the camera on a tripod - again keep the shutter speed higher than your max focal length and you can open the aperture wide open as the aircraft is so far away it wont really matter. Have fun!
When I use 1/800 shutter speed with F/8 it is very dark and i cant see anything. I have ISO at auto and i have also tried maxing it out to get it brighter but it didn’t work. How can i fix this?
Hi Martin I just bought a new camera yesterday it is a Canon PowerShot Sx430 so this weekend I am going to do planespotting. Is this the right camera to do planespotting?
Unfortunately I am quite out of the loop on what cameras are out these days. With cameras you really do get what you pay for. So I would look at a bridge camera if you want the best bang for your buck, or look at the second hand market from reputable dealers
** Aer Lingus Prop - Correct Data: ISO: 100 | 152mm | f 10 | 1/80 sec

Exactly! Get the camera out of auto when you can and play around with it! Best thing you can do
I have 55-300mm lens. Glad to hear it's enough for professional planespotting
That will be perfect!
@@AirlinersLive my 55-300 only goes to 5.6 aperture, will that be okay?
@@AirlinersLivenevermind, figured it out
Great insights! I’m just getting more serious about my aviation photography so this is so useful! 👍
Great video. Lots of questions answered. Inspired to get more involved. Looking a the Nikon 180-600mm lens. Thanks
Well done Martin. Cracking video and great tips & not just for the beginner I bet. Looking forward to the next one.
Cheers mate appreciate it!

FR 2131 on the flight radar bit is our holiday flight in August. Great info for the budding photographer
Awesome I hope you have a great trip! Thanks for watching
Hi Martin will you still be doing meet ups at the RVP to talk through some settings on the camera?
We'll plan something 😎 most likely will be a wednesday eve
Look forward to it, been enjoying the tutorial vids but someone willing to talk to budding photographers will go a long way

Thanks a lot for watching - phone cameras are great to get started these days! Happy spotting!
This is spooky I was going to email you to suggest this as an idea for a video … nice one 👍🏻👍🏻
Ha what are the chances!
Thank you Martin very good info have you done a video on aircraft taking off
Thanks Melvin, glad you enjoyed it. I haven't yet but can certainly do this next
Great video Martin! Thanks for the tips and advice!
Cheers John, hope it helps

Would a 14-60mm lens on micro 4/3 camera good enough for close up spoting like right in front of the runway
Thanks so much for the video lads.
Our pleasure!

Oh nice! I've never tried one of the phone lenses! Post some pictures in our group when you try it
Sorry Iam quite new what group? Sorry to be annoying 😂

Great informative video Martin !! Can I ask what focus settings you use ?
I just leave mine on a wide zone on shots like this. Sometimes use tracking spot if I want to ensure I'm not grabbing the white body

This is a great entry into aviation photography. It has a decent zoom lens built in so no reason you can't come away with some decent pictures!
I have nikon d3200 with sigma lens 70-300mm is it good?
What camera were you using in this video?
I am no photographer, but that was really interesting, thanks
Thanks a lot!
Agreed.
Appature on my lens only goes up to F5.6, any tips for that ?
I got a 55 to 250 lens and a canon t1i
Martin, great advice and tips, thanks so much! Cheers David 👍
No problem David, glad it helped!
Time to dust off the Nikon D3300! I’ve become very lazy with the phone camera…
@@stamfordplace5 Do it! Go out and enjoy it :)
The Aer Lingus ATR slow shutter speed shot says 1/640 on the caption but obviously actually shot slower
Probably exposure data is from a different shot
1/50th I go for them lovely prop blur shots
@@tomdavies4828 Thanks a lot - I have put a pinned comment with the correct info. Editing mistake!
I have a 420-800 lens is it good for lineups photography
At Manchester that may be too much zoom on the bottom end unfortunately
You didn't mention about locations And Security
Do you know any good cameras which are cheap?

I will give that a try. Thanks for your help!
Any tips for those of us who only have cell phones?
Might do a full video on this!
