Once again a perfect review by Cooper! You have the perfect playing of each guitar to hear the difference in sound. And really that is where it's at. Picking a guitar is like choosing your first sports car. Only you can know what is perfect for you. Cooper always makes sure we can know all the details of each. Excellent job Cooper!
This guild sounds amazing! Way more open, way more volume. Good job! I’m still in love with my 1960 Hummingbird Custom but hell this Guild sounds phenomenal.
After going back and forth a few times between the two, I can positively say that the Guild actually has a deeper bass than the Gibson. It's just that the Guild also excels so much with the mids and highs, that the bass doesn't stand out as much as it does with the Gibson. The Gibson seems very "one-note" to me. The Guild is much more lively and sounds way better to my ears.
Thank you for the thorough comparison. I enjoy when Cooper does these solo reviews as he can complete his thoughts without getting interrupted. Well done 👍
My D-240 makes me want to pull the trigger on D-55. I have maple SJ200, D-18 Modern Lux. Another dread or another jumbo F-55, but rosewood a must. Such sweet distractions from criminal politics. Always bravo Coop! Salty beard. You Don’t Have To Be Old To Be Wise! Watched the video a second time cranking up my good TV sound system. Digging the Studio more surprisingly. Wish I could feel her.
I hear fuller mids and lows with the Gibson. The Guild has more treble. I can sing better with the Gibson. Wonder how the neck profile is, if it's playable for me. Thanks Cooper
Your assessment is spot on to what I heard. Both distinguish themselves from each other and both sound fantastic. That piece you played on both was incredible.
I have the new guitar fever lately, and it's gotta be a burst Jumbo. Searching the internet, I've searched the guilds extensively and although I'm bad with some model numbers, I definitely picked up on the F-150, 250 and ford numbers. LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one!
I haven't compared the rosewood ones but I recently played some vintage 200s and 55 Guild's in their maple bodies and really loved the Guilds every time. My favorite Dreads are Gibson usually but those Guild's are awesome!
Love your channel and comparisons! Thank you! I thought both giutars looked and sounded wonderful. I, like you, thought there was a very noticeable difference between them though. I really liked the Guild sound the best, it just rang out and filled all the spaces.
I think the Guild is light-years better, no contest. Guild just makes the best jumbos and 12 strings, hands down! I'm gonna get a spruce top natural finish with rosewood back & sides
I own both Guilds (1971 F 412, 1980 D 50) and and 1996 Gibson S-200, I have to say on the demo the SJ 200 sounded thin to me. that's the best way I can describe it. My Guild jumbo body 12 has the same vibe, there is is clarity that almost makes it sound like HD compared the the Gibson. I am not sure if the Gibson lends itself better in the maple? Mine sounds amazing, it does have all the appointments and I assume premium wood. I would be interested in hear your comparison of the F55E and a proper SJ-200.
I own the Guild f55 and I think these are voiced differently as seen in the comparison. Guilds are more open/balanced however I am also looking for a maple j200 with the mid bump currently. One thing I do is run a medium on string 456 and light on 123 D'addario EJ14. They help with the Bass.
Wow. Thanks for this video. After listening to the Guild D55, which sounded like a jumbo to me, I was really curious to see how these two fared. TBH I came with a bias preferring the Guild. But after listening I found it a tough call. They clearly sound different, and at first I liked the crispness of the Gibson, but after a while it sounded kind of shrill. So it's the Guild for me. (But if you were to say, send me an SJ-200 for free, I wouldn't kick it to the curb.) 😀
I'd guess that most others watch/listen to these videos to hear that big guy and especially you, play them; as I do. We need a little less talk and a lot more action; lol! 🤘 (A bit of a Pure Prairie League vibe goin on there at times to me. Well done!)
Matter of taste, both sound different but very musical. To me the difference is in how the articulation comes across. The Gibson has more character in this aspect. Much more palette to work with and doesn’t burry details with the ring of the Guild.
The Guild looks nice but the Gibson has the best tone for me personally. And believe me I ain’t biased to any maker as I’ve been fooled by many of them and their marketing nonsense before with exotic woods and all that Blagh Blagh Blagh. This was a brilliant comparison and for me the Gibson was the one I’d want. I couldn’t live with the sound of the Guild but it looks really lovely. Thanks for sharing this comparison/ demo with us all, it was great.
That's a very tough call. To me, the Gibson had a more muffled but sweeter tone*, yet at the same time more 'rock-ey'. I have owned Guilds, but I don't think I'd pick either. I would spend the Gibson money on a Martin or Bourgeois. *After writing this, I heard Cooper say that the Guild tone was 'brighter' and 'crisper', which I think is the same thing.
F-40 is mahogany back and sides, and the F-55 is rosewood or maple back and sides. That’s the main difference, although bling is for sure more plentiful on the F-55 like you mentioned. (Inlays, binding, rosette, headstock…) edit: the fretboard is also different if that matters to you; the F-55 has an ebony fretboard, and the F-40 has a rosewood fretboard.
I have a 1996 Guild JF-55 (now called a F-55). Mine has a rare (for Guild) 1 3/4" nut width. Looked for quite a long while to find it. Great sounding jumbo. The Gibson in the vid does not compare well to the Guild.
THE GUILD KILLED THE GIBSON, I HAD A SJ 200, I SOLD IT, I WANT A GUILD F-55......WOW!!!!!!!, I HAVE A GUILD GAD CHINA MADE....LOVE IT I WILL NEVER SELL IT!!!!!!
I thought the Guild sounded sweeter and better, and I just said a few days ago that the SJ 200 was my aspirational guitar! The Guild was not a jumbo-boomy sounding guitar.
Nice guitars obviously, buy way, way more than I thik I'll ever need to spend on a guitar. Personally, I don't see the need for a jumbo in this day and age. I reckon I can get all the guitar I need for under $2k... and I'd probably lean to something with a significantly smaller body.
I can 100% recommend a Guild M-20 in your price range if you prefer a smaller body and 1.75 neck. I've had mine for a few months now and won't ever part with it.
Guild F55 sounds better. We can hear it especially with the pick! More woody sound and meat than Gibby has! Gibson sounds more clear with thin strings.
Your playing is just so clean and tasteful!
They are both nice sounding jumbos; however, given the choice I prefer the sound of the Guild.
I totally agree with you. Way more volume & better action. I like the fretboard on the guild a lot more
The treble in that Guild positively shimmers! I’m a finger-picker, and that’s what I look for.
The Guild has a beautiful balanced sound, bottom to top is there. You also played it beautifully...

I’ve got to give it to the Guild. Not to take anything from the Gibson, but that Guild is over the top! Love the burst also but man, the sound!
My D-240 makes me want to pull the trigger on D-55. I have maple SJ200, D-18 Modern Lux. Another dread or another jumbo F-55, but rosewood a must. Such sweet distractions from criminal politics.

we need more cooper solo vids
I hear fuller mids and lows with the Gibson. The Guild has more treble. I can sing better with the Gibson. Wonder how the neck profile is, if it's playable for me. Thanks Cooper
Your assessment is spot on to what I heard. Both distinguish themselves from each other and both sound fantastic. That piece you played on both was incredible.
I’ve never heard of Guild until this year somehow. It’s a very nice quality guitar.
Great job, Cooper! Love these videos!
I don’t know about playability but sound wise I’m thinking the Guild. I like the burst also.
Honestly, the Guild sounds like a Guild. The Gibson has that dry Gibson sound. It sounds like a bright dreadnaught.
I enjoyed the Guild more.
I just picked up a Guild D55E. Dam your a wicked player!. Amazing music. The F55 is a clear winner for me. The Gibby is nice as well.
great guitars -- I personally prefer the Guild :)
Great job, Cooper. You very well displayed the qualities and character of the Guild 55 and Gibson 200. I prefer the Guild's overall presentation.
They each sound great but I prefer the Guild.
I have the new guitar fever lately, and it's gotta be a burst Jumbo. Searching the internet, I've searched the guilds extensively and although I'm bad with some model numbers, I definitely picked up on the F-150, 250 and ford numbers. LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one!

In the Jumbo model guitars, both of the company's have always shined. I love them both and ill take the pair.
I recently purchased a Guild USA M40 and I love it. I would love to hear you play it and see what you think about it
An A for the Guild and your playing . Great song TOO!!
1-Guild , 2-Gibson ! Nice demo from Mr.Cooper ! Best wishes for Alamo crew !
Both have differences, both sound fantastic 🎵
Nice playing 😎👍
Always loved rosewood back n sides.
I think the Guild is light-years better, no contest. Guild just makes the best jumbos and 12 strings, hands down! I'm gonna get a spruce top natural finish with rosewood back & sides

I thought the Guild was actually warmer and more mid rangey and that the Gibson was brighter and had mor sustain but I liked them both.
Such a fine, fine player. Every maker should count themselves lucky when you take these axes for a spin.
I own the Guild f55 and I think these are voiced differently as seen in the comparison. Guilds are more open/balanced however I am also looking for a maple j200 with the mid bump currently. One thing I do is run a medium on string 456 and light on 123 D'addario EJ14. They help with the Bass.
Guild any day
What was that tune you played? Sounds fantastic!
Wow. Thanks for this video. After listening to the Guild D55, which sounded like a jumbo to me, I was really curious to see how these two fared. TBH I came with a bias preferring the Guild. The Guild hands down
GUILD! GUILD! GUILD!
I'm a Gibson guy, but the Guild was more alive to me.
The guild is so nice that's the one I would get that one
Wow that Gibson sounds awesome
Nice playing!
Sweet guild
very nicely played. thanks a lot. i'd prefer guild - fuller, I'd say more pleasant lows, better balanced mids, very clear . . . and she lookes killer
Wow you make that guild sound great.
Agreed. Difference is distinctive surprisingly.
I'd guess that most others watch/listen to these videos to hear that big guy and especially you, play them; as I do. We need a little less talk and a lot more action; lol! 🤘 (A bit of a Pure Prairie League vibe goin on there at times to me. Well done!)
Guild had a much warmer woody sound for me
I wonder how the Gibson 12 Parlor would have compared to the F512E but then again it does seem that Guild has the best sounding Jumbos out there.
Matter of taste, both sound different but very musical. To me the difference is in how the articulation comes across. The Gibson has more character in this aspect. Much more palette to work with and doesn’t burry details with the ring of the Guild.
Dude can play so well!@ Gibson low end warmth is undeniable..
BOTH NICE, GUILD HAD A BETTER FULLER MORE CRISP SOUND, THX
Guild Jumbo of course.
Guild, you win! 🎉🎉🎉
I like the pick up of the Guild lr baggs Anthem
Guild f50 for me.
Like the Gibson ok. Love the Guild. That midrange...that treble.
Both guitars are royal kind. I am a blessed owner of SJ200. It wins the competition to my ears. Thank you for great review.
The Guild looks nice but the Gibson has the best tone for me personally. Being a Jerry Cantrell fan it’d be hard to pass up the Guild.
The Guild sounds much better to me. It's has more shimmer and complexity in the sound. Also, the Guild looks so much better.
How would the Guild compare to a similar Eastman?
I think the Guild took this match
Please review some of the Faith brand guitars. They seem to be getting more popular where I'm at with people loving them.
Can you get the neck on boat either of these 1 inch 575 artist taper low profile been through a wrecked my hand is messed up but I love to play 🎶🎸
They both sound great, but I do love the sound of a maple jumbo.
Guild is the clear winner here. However, it comes down to what you are looking for. I think the Guild has more versatility.
How does the F-40 compare with an F-55? Are the specs different or is it just a question of bling?
F-40 is mahogany back and sides, and the F-55 is rosewood or maple back and sides. That’s the main difference, although bling is for sure more plentiful on the F-55 like you mentioned. (Inlays, binding, rosette, headstock…) edit: the fretboard is also different if that matters to you; the F-55 has an ebony fretboard, and the F-40 has a rosewood fretboard.
6:46 vs 8:36
Where do you put the battery in the pickup at on the outside ??
I have a 1996 Guild JF-55 (now called a F-55). Mine has a rare (for Guild) 1 3/4" nut width. Looked for quite a long while to find it. Great sounding jumbo. The Gibson in the vid does not compare well to the Guild.
From what I heard, I like the tone of the Guild better over the new-born Gibson. The previous generation of Gibson guitars are the best!
Honestly, the Gibson was ok, but the F55E smoked it. Way more balanced and pronounced. Also a whole lot prettier. ;-) Thanks!
Guild F55 vs. Gibson SJ200 standard would be a fair comparison. The Gibson studio has a shallower body depth than the Guild.
even a stick with one string would sound amazing in your hands
is the studio thinner?
Great playing. In my opinion guild is better.
GIBSON ATW
Ebony fretboard with Guild vs rosewood for Gibson accounts for brighter tone?
Bracing and dimensions tambien friend.
THE GUILD KILLED THE GIBSON, I HAD A SJ 200, I SOLD IT, I WANT A GUILD F-55......WOW!!!!!!!, I HAVE A GUILD GAD CHINA MADE....LOVE IT I WILL NEVER SELL IT!!!!!!
I HAVE 2 GUILD GADS I WILL NEVER EVER SELL 6 AND 12 STRING SUNBURST JUMBOS BEST GUITARS I EVER OWNED PERIOD!!!!, I AM BUYING A D55 SOON!!!!!
Surprisingly, I think the Guild wins this one...
Tony just changed his outlook?😅
I thought the Guild sounded sweeter and better, and I just said a few days ago that the SJ 200 was my aspirational guitar! The Guild was not a jumbo-boomy sounding guitar.
Gibson for the W.
Nice guitars obviously, buy way, way more than I thik I'll ever need to spend on a guitar. Personally, I don't see the need for a jumbo in this day and age. I reckon I can get all the guitar I need for under $2k... and I'd probably lean to something with a significantly smaller body.

Guild F55 sounds better. We can hear it especially with the pick! More woody sound and meat than Gibby has! Gibson sounds more clear with thin strings.
I think only aesthetics and adornments split the two.
i call my SJ-200 Sarah Jane x
Screw those high prices, get the Sigma CGA 200
Sigma?!?! Ya breakin micarta!!!
@@markhughes5028 Check em out at least, lots of videos on youtube, they make a great copy
I prefer the Guild...
What? Guild doesn’t make a super jumbo outta maple?
They do… the F55 Maple…
F_55e vs Gibson j200 pre- war
Guild f55
You picked the guild, then stated the gibson doesn't get enough love. Lol
This Gibson lacks the debth of the J200 Standart. The Guild is way better
guild rosewood sounds much better. i think the gibson does the maple jumbo better tho.
Guild jumbo vs a Taylor jumbo
Gibson is sweeter and guild is wilder
