    Hi brother, in a cabin in the mountains without my AirPods. Listened on my iPhone, so can’t tell you yet. Tomorrow I’ll have my headphones on and will let you know then. However, even on my iPhone, I would definitely go with the king of the flatops, but don’t count that as a vote yet. A great video, brother man 👍🏻

    All things considered including cost the Guild would be the one I'd buy

      A wise choice. I see that they’re making them in natural finish now too. $599 - great deal.

    Hi Paul, I watched your three jumbo guitar videos. And I admit that as a songwriter for my next album, I wanted to not only use my Martin guitars and wanted to put other colors with a Jumbo. The problem is that the Gibson J200 is too expensive for me. Ditto for the Eastman AC330. That for the Epiphone J200, it's out of the question because I find it very dull in sound, it has no soul. On the other hand the Guild F250e, there were not many TH-cam videos to give me an idea of this fabulous Jumbo. Also, your videos on the subject, convinced me that this Guild F250e is fabulous. If the handle is thin like my Guild P240 Parlor, then I think your videos gave me the arguments to buy this beautiful F250e.
    Thanks again for your videos Paul.
    🙂👍👍👍👍

    I would say the Gibson, but Guild holds its own. If you account for price, the Guild takes it easy. I would be curious to add the Guild - all-American F-55 to the comparison, It is a direct competitor to J-200 and it comes in a solid maple or rosewood configuration, both with Sitka tops.

    Very close but if we take price out of the equation I have to give it to the Gibson but the Guild sounds wonderful too. Great video.

    Brother you made a great series here , I did not expect an import guitar to have done what the Guild has , it held it`s own but the Gibson has more of that "punch" to put it on top.
    Maybe folks do not want to admit how good the Guild really is ?

    Hey Paul. Really enjoyed this series and it's helped me choose my next guitar. I've been obsessed with wanting a J-200 style guitar without the Gibson price tag. My budget is around £500 or $650 ish and I've been looking at Sigma, Epiphone, and out of the blue I find the Guild and here you are doing the perfect shootout for me! Being objective (tricky) the Gibson definitely has a greater fidelity - almost like a 4K TV against an HD TV. Both display great pictures but one has more detail and nuance. Nevertheless, at the price the Guild seems like a steal even it isn't quite as beautiful an object.

      Thanks so much, and I’m so glad it was helpful. That was totally my goal. I’ll tell you, I pulled this Guild out the other day after a few months, and it just punches waaayyy above its weight class. If you get one, I promise you won’t regret it. Thanks again! 🙏🎸😎

      The Guild F-250E stands out in its price range. I only played one in person, the strings were ancient and one was broken (probably rusted through, they were old). It was still sounded better than any guitar I played that day up to twice its price or even more in some cases. I'd imagine with some new strings it would really shine.

    I really want that Guild because I could probably NEVER afford the Gibson, which is my dream guitar. Even the Guils is something I can’t afford right now, but I like it. It sounds warmer in the video, but I can hear/feel/tell that in the room it doesn’t quite have theat BOOM that the J-200 has. It doesn’t move as much air. But the overall rounder notes, and somewhat less dynamic range, possibly due to the compression o audio lent itself well to the recording. Even in person, sometimes the more affordable guitars can sound really good because they hit that mids region well. But I have also played both models and the Dynamic range in the Gibson Jumbo is second to none. In this video though, I’ll give the nod to the Guild. And it ceratinly hasn’t hurt my contention that I want to buy one as a consolation prize for the Gibson…In fact its more attractive even on its own now than it was.

    Guild is still one of the best choice for a Jumbo, but I guess the all solid woods build Blueridge BG-2500 could be at eye level with the by far much punchier Gibson.

    The Gibson has strong highs, maybe a little too string. It might benefit from some darker strings.
    I own the ultimate jumbo (maple Guild F-50) and the highs can be a little strong. I find the DR Veritas strings to be perfect, they usually work well with maple guitars with the rich mids so I recommend giving them a shot.
    The Asian Guild holds its own pretty well here too. Definitely wins in value.

    In my opinion the Guild has the superior sound here.. I tested one against a Gibson and bought the Guild. The Guild just has a more balanced and full sound. The Gibson is too bright sounding for me and doesn’t have the warmth and personality of the Guild. The Gibson is a much nicer guitar to look at, but I’m here for sound not looks.

    Gibson, easily.
    Its tone is so much fuller.
    Guild is an amazingly well budget guitar either way.
    Shame it has such a crude sunburst and slightly weird headstock because of extremely wide tuner spacing.
    But I dislike the pointy shoulders the most.🤣
    Great tone either way. Just not as beautiful as it could be.

  • @tonebone69
    @tonebone69 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well they arent that close. The guild is kind of tight/stiff sounding and has less detail/overtones. The gibson is simply a prettier sounding guitar. It sounded like a piano with a ton of bass. The songs sounded better on the gibson.

      @@paulgeorgia8013 listed as Solid Sitka Spruce top and Maple back and sides. Note it doesn’t say “Solid Maple”…if it was they would include the word solid… marketing doesnt miss a beat. There has been some discussion about this on Gibson forums but it appears that solid maple was dropped in the 50s or 60s in favor of laminate because solid maple is difficult to work with, and there was a lot of issues with cracks, which laminate construction solves.

    • @paulgeorgia8013
      @paulgeorgia8013  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @jnorthrop70 have you ever actually seen, or held, or played a 2002 J100XTRA? I’ve been around guitars all my life, and I know how to SEE laminate vs solid. This guitar was built. By Ren Ferguson. He has never built a laminate jumbo guitar in his life. As far as the theory of cracking, I own 3 J200’s from the same era. All solid maple. How were they built without cracking?

    • @jnorthrop70
      @jnorthrop70 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@paulgeorgia8013 I have never seen the word “solid” prefacing “maple back and sides” on any Gibson literature. Do you really think Gibson marketing wouldn’t put the word “solid” in the copy if they could? It’s a selling point. I see solid rosewood” or “solid mahogany” back and sides listed on their other guitars. And I’ve played plenty of Gibson solid, semi-hollow and hollow arch tops and flat and arch top acoustics (and owned a few, too). I prefer their electrics, frankly. My experience is if they’re vague about a feature, there is a reason for it.

    • @paulgeorgia8013

      @jnorthrop70 notice they also don’t say solid spruce top. I’m not interested in the variations Gibson went through in Kalamazoo, including the shitty Norland era. What I know to a serous this: The Bozeman factory does not now, nor ever has, used laminate maple on their jumbos.
