  • Here are some tips for 1st and 3rd defense and offensive strategy to be more successful on the baseball diamond. Just remember to set a time during practice to work on team defense which should include a lot of drilling different situations at 1st and 3rd.

Excellent discussion. When I was in LL we did all this and it set us apart from all other teams. You should discuss 2nd & 3rd office and defense as well! I wasn't introduced to that until high school, but I think that is overlooked at most levels as well.

Hey coach! My name is Austin Kirkwood and I am a Freshman who just turned 14. I am 6'2" and 135lbs. I sit at the high 70's with my fastball and mid-high 60's with my changeup. However, I have a goal to be throwing in the low 80's within the next few months. Do you think you have any drills or tips that could help me out? Thanks!

A great play for first and third play for offence is the skunk in the outfield play (look it up if you don't know what it is)

Any coach using the skunk play is definitely rocking baseball pants to his practices

Fake to 3rd throw to 1st is still allowed in most youth leagues... High school rules allow it and because most umpires work high school many travel tournaments play high school rules.
