EL 84s do more than many would think. I was working at a boutique guitar and amp shop for 5 years in the mid 2000s. Fortunately I as able to play, gig and of course purchase many different amps. I was in a 90s cover band at the time playing 3 nights a week, as well as recording originals. I had so many to chose from and I was chasing a tone with the killer clean style amps and pedals. Right before I was forever locked into my tone, I was playing a Fargen JW 40, Some various Dr Zs and a beautiful Germino Lead 55 LV ( Greg Is a 1st class man and builder) with a John Landgraff (RIP) Mo D among other killer OD pedals like Xotic Ac,BB, Love Pedal Eternity, Amp,Klon, KOT, Box Of Rock etc.etc. Then it happened... I plugged into one of our Divided By 13 RSA 23s ( Fred is another great guy with some serious skills) with the Lift boost and.....The amp had the sound without anything else and it was even better. Ive never looked back. When the EL 84 is done proper there is magic there. I became a Bad Cat dealer for a few years and still to this day believe that there is no comparison. The Hot Cat was one of the best rocking amps ever created imo. I've been on a break for a few years due to health issues, but Im feeling good and on a mission to hear and play this new masterpiece! Great playing Michael, great riffs and that toneeeeee....
The opening song is a nasty ride! Out-freaking-standing! Your demo sound quality and production have really stepped up in the past 12-18 months. Well done sir!
Wow! Once again you've hit it out of the park with the song! It has it all. Great riffs, great melodies, some great rhythmic and syncopation choices, and most of all just a refreshing and enjoyable piece of music that isn't filled with lots of needless noodling without any story telling. Thanks for this. :)
I played through a Bad Cat the other day (not this particular model but a newer one) and it goes in my top 5 amps of all time. Thing sounded incredible!
Damn, you intros are so freekin' good! Love the sound of this amp but sure can hear the distinctive hi end cut typical of EL84 amps ( I have a Peavy Classic 20 and MK:5)
EVH and Slash used to smoke cigarettes while playing their guitars and amps. When Michael Nielsen plays, his guitars and amps are the ones that need the cigarette 🚬
Great demo Michael and great to meet you the other day! Love your playing and that Shabat!!!! Great tone, great video, great all around. I appreciate what you are doing sir.👍
Intro song is killer -- I like the rhythmic elements of it the best -- obviously great chops too. The amp sounds great -- I personally think the reverb and trem are kinda odd include but sound nice.
i have a peavey classic 50 poweramp with 8x el84 and it is just one of the most overlooked poweramps out there and therefor very affordable. the only downside is that the el84 getting very hot so i had to install better and quieter cooling fans. cheers 🎸🎸
Man, this amp and whole demo sounds killer. I love that “in your face” direct rough sound 👏 Btw. Your “green” guitar plays awesome! The pickups on that guitar has that rough bite of single-coils, even they are humbuckers. When you picked up the Les Paul, the sound was more “boring”, less exciting (sorry) 😁
That’s a baaaaaaad cat! They are knocking out of the park. And I’m not going to comment on the opening as everyone else has already. But 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This is the best of today's demos on this amp, but it strikes me odd that it's the new sig amp of an extended range player, and all the reviews are low gain. Not 1 metal review of this amp today and this demo is the highest gain one I've see so far. Killer for sure as Michael's videos always are, but where's the metal in the amp? No one is showcasing it.
great video mike. thanks for posting. you keep these amps you test or return them? I have a habbit of liking them, then buying them.😆sounde like you had some Steve lukather tone going on there for a minute. great job, cheers!
So would you say that using a pedal to maybe tighten up the low end a bit, this could do a decent metal tone? Not thinking crazy high gain. More like Tool, Porcupine Tree, Opeth type: heavy but not necessarily all that gainy. Thanks and cheers!

not even done with the intro song and as usual your playing is just so damn good.
What the hell??! You've outdone yourself with that intro! Killer!!
For real...you should have over 100,000 subscribers...such badassery. Great stuff like always Michael.
Agree!
Excellent intro tune at every level: playing, composition and production. 👍🏼
Dude, MN just KILLING IT lately with these demos. Playing, composition, tones... incredible.
Your demo songs are always ridiculously good. Sounds excellent.
Intro song is GREAT! ah yes, the amp is great too... but THAT SONG!!!
Do NOT buy this head kids, Michael Nielsen has already milked all the tones out of it. What a superb frikken demo !!!
This is the best channel on TH-cam imo. I’m predicting you blow up Beato style eventually
Came for the amp. Stayed for the song. Monster Jam!!!!!!!!👍🏾👍🏾
I played through a Bad Cat the other day (not this particular model but a newer one) and it goes in my top 5 amps of all time. Thing sounded incredible!
This opening Riff is fantastic and exemplifies what I love about this amp.
Your demo tune was sick!! Love the tones from that amp! Getting GAS for that one!
Fantastic track - every part was ace. Monster arranging and playing.
Dude! Crushing it. Playing👍 Production 👍 Song writing👍👍👍!!!
Damn, you intros are so freekin' good! Love the sound of this amp but sure can hear the distinctive hi end cut typical of EL84 amps ( I have a Peavy Classic 20 and MK:5)
Stellar playing my friend! It was a pleasure making your acquaintance and getting to chat with you on the livestream the other day!
Damn is that intro track awesome !! The whole production on the video is top notch :)
That is THE sickest demo I have ever experienced! GAWD!
Most of all youre a great and always innovative composer
EVH and Slash used to smoke cigarettes while playing their guitars and amps. When Michael Nielsen plays, his guitars and amps are the ones that need the cigarette 🚬
Great demo Michael and great to meet you the other day! Love your playing and that Shabat!!!! Great tone, great video, great all around. I appreciate what you are doing sir.👍
Man the intro to this video is killer! Subscribed!
Always look forward to your intros. Killer playing man!
That green Tele with reverse head and FR is gorgeous!
Excellent playing all around. Well done!
You have outdone yourself with this one, Michael!
That's one heck of an opening tune!
Intro song is killer -- I like the rhythmic elements of it the best -- obviously great chops too. The amp sounds great -- I personally think the reverb and trem are kinda odd include but sound nice.
Your mix just jumped out at my ears. Fantastic work!
Cool amp!! Love the tremolo feature!!! Tremolo can get lost in front of a gainy amp.....so having this in the right spot in the signal path is great!
Awesome Tune mate ...love the clapping rhythm ideas you got ....Frkn clever mate \-/
I always forget about the review when a come here! WHAT a great intro!!
Sounds wonderful! Bad Cat is killing it
Michael your creativity completely kicks ass!! Brilliant song!! Again!!
Thanks so much!!!
El84`s. Thats why i love my peavey classic 50 4x10 and 1x15 stack
My Classic 30 doesn’t sound like this?🤷♂️🤦♂️🔥
i have a peavey classic 50 poweramp with 8x el84 and it is just one of the most overlooked poweramps out there and therefor very affordable. the only downside is that the el84 getting very hot so i had to install better and quieter cooling fans. cheers 🎸🎸
must be a 100w with 8 el84s?
Les Paul with modern el84 sounding amp really got 90s era rock tones ..
I agree. Kinda reminds me of an STP kinda thing
Killer playing and tones Michael.
Sounds great. Nice riff and playing. Thanks.
wow - unbelievable cool and tasteful playing here - chapeau!
best intro song you've done. so good
Most talented guitar player I've seen in decades.
Best intro song yet!
DAMN Michael!!!! THAT is some TASTY playing !!!
Think I need to rewind and hear that again! SumBitcH!
Isn’t it great?! Loving mine, too!
That intro song is awesome!
Sounds great! Mind sharing where teh drums are coming from? Loops or your programming? You need to make solo record.
Awesome composition!!!
This is a killer video. I love your tone! Keep rockin'!
OMG !! I loved this tune, my favorite so far. We need another break down of this in the daw, maybe? Have a Great Thanksgiving holiday.
superb music arrangement n superb guitar sound
Best damn demos, period!
Excellent intro song. I could hear the little dan huff in there ;)
Always! 🤘😎
Love the opener. Groovy :)
Man... that was quite the jam.
A little fire breather for sure.
That intro was KICKASS!!!
really interesting tones and very cool gritty tune.
Nice demo!! You have some playing brah!! 🔥🎶🤘
Top form Michael!
Wowzwers dude! Killer demo
a
Another killer intro. Nice playing!
Excellent tunage!!!!! 🤘 Bravo!

The pickups on that guitar has that rough bite of single-coils, even they are humbuckers. When you picked up the Les Paul, the sound was more “boring”, less exciting (sorry) 😁
Wow! That is a great jam
Deadly intro track
Killing!! Great demo Micheal!
That’s a baaaaaaad cat! They are knocking out of the park. And I’m not going to comment on the opening as everyone else has already. But 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Shabat needs to make a Michael Nielsen signature.
Michael. I’m just wondering if this is an amp you’d buy if you owned a 72 reverb deluxe? Thanks. Great video
Amazing track. Would love to see a video comparing all your Shabat guitars. Avi is a master builder!
This demo and the slo pedal one are the best demos in the enfuckingtire youtube
Amazing intro song! 😊
OMG I had EL84 amp before, and later jumped to bigger things... just because I didn't know THIS! :O
This is the best of today's demos on this amp, but it strikes me odd that it's the new sig amp of an extended range player, and all the reviews are low gain. Thanks Vince. I do have a metal demo of the amp coming. It's not really a metal amp per se. But it can get some killer chunky tones.
Nice playing.
Beautiful intro song
great video mike. thanks for posting. you keep these amps you test or return them? I have a habbit of liking them, then buying them.😆sounde like you had some Steve lukather tone going on there for a minute. great job, cheers!
Hi! Thanks! I’ve tried so many amazing amps lately, I keep buying them 🫣
I’m at my amp limit now. So no one is allowed to make any more amazing amps!
@@BigHairyGuitars thanks mike. I appreciate all your deep dives into the amps. great playing as well. Matt
What guitar is being used here? Excellent demo and love the tones!
Thanks! Most of it is a Shabat Lion shabatguitars.com
Probably does surf tones clean with tremolo & reverb, and Filth also.🤘🏽🤙🏽
That’s some delicious low end
What is that super cool Green guitar, that you are using?
If I just get one on Hard-tail ❤!
Tremendous intro song.
Awesome as always
Fuck man, that demo was killer! Amp sounded great. Kind of "wirey” but in the best possible way.
I like the Matchless Clubman best.
So would you say that using a pedal to maybe tighten up the low end a bit, this could do a decent metal tone? Not thinking crazy high gain. More like Tool, Porcupine Tree, Opeth type: heavy but not necessarily all that gainy. Thanks and cheers!
Yeah, that can work. Tool might be pushing it, but I think PT and Opeth are totally doable
Killer song as usual.
Ok the amp is cool and Michael is cool too… but what about that sherwood green t style guitar with reverse headstock? 😱😱😱
Great opening tune. What brand is that guitar? Dig it. Edit: nevermind. Found it. Wish I hadn't. :)
Shabat Guitars. The most consistently fantastic guitars I’ve ever played. EVERY guitar that I’ve played out of their shop is A+.
Album please! That was epic 🔥
What pups in that Shabbat?
This as a preamp, rack or pedal, I would buy. Bad cat doesn't have preamps I think.
No rack gear right now. Hopefully they go back to rack gear at some point
@@BigHairyGuitars hopefully sinergy preamp module from them at least. Bad cat distortion is so ballsy and thick (judging by videos).
2:15 let me guess, EVH is one your biggest influence? It's a compliment of course. You're playing is very interesting
I’ve certainly listened to a lot of Ed, but I don’t think I would put him in my top 5 influences. But he influenced EVERYTHING after 1978, so 🤷🏻♂️
Comp at intro is out of this world level shit
How do you feel this compares to to the current version hot cat
They're very different. The Hot Cat is a more traditional EL34 vibe. It's a great rock amp.
