Man - I can't begin to tell you how important it is that you make these videos. I'm not a spinal injury, but I'm in a chair. I think it's good that you can shower other people in chairs how they can cope with this life, but I LOVE that able bodies people can see and get some idea of what it is to live a day to day life in a chair and what you do. THANK YOU ! ! !
Good for you bro,I'm a c-8 complete I been paralyzed for 35 years now and you would think I have this transferring down .there was a time when I could transfer easily but it's been giving me trouble lately my legs have been getting super tight and that makes it difficult for me.but it's all about hanging in there.good luck to you..by the way try putting a large rug with a rubber bottom for your slippery floor, that works great for me..
i'm a 28 year post injury - c-6 quad and my spastisity and spams sure make my transfers and bed mobility horrible. i do drive, i do get on a john deere zero turn mower with mininal assistance . spasms, spastisity, constant uti's and of course the dreaded pressure sores that i get on my toes and bottom of my feet. i think i have done pretty good with post sci for oct 22 it will make 29 years of post spinal cord injury. i am tired of this way of life though, but god is in control. live life to your best.... god would want you to. i was 26 yrs old when i had my injury ..now soon be 56.
Nice! I had a hospital bed, and then a bed that reclined and came up.. I was living with my mom at the time and we found out it was digging into her hardwood floor. So that was the end of that lol
If you need help it’s nothing wrong with accepting it. You don’t need to justify your decision for independence. You’re doing awesome!! I’m c5 incomplete so I get help too (even though I can do it independently, it just takes twice the time)
Hi. I use to volunteer at Shepard spinal center in Atlanta. It was an amazing experience and I met some wonderful people. Your attitude and outlook are amazing and motivating. Summer is here, any adventures planned?
Nice work brahdahh!! I like ur transfer on tech. Gonna try that😎i used a towel the way u do. I called it the transfer board towel. I had to use it bc the brake was pointed up. Thank for sharing ur tricks👊
Thanks for this new video! Do you not get assistance for your morning bathroom/shower routine anymore (like in the other videos) with the assist out of bed? That independence to get out of bed yourself is great as you said. Until your next video, take care, shootz Corey!
Thank you for watching! I still have my caregivers come every morning and I do still the same morning routine. Actually it’s a little different because the shower isn’t the same. I’ll make that new routine video soon. I just now transferred into bed and out of bed when I want to nap.. or change my pants.
Thank you! I wondered that if you can push with your feet, can you stand up? Like with help? Im taking care of a c5. His legs move and he can feel...just learning what he might expect ...to be able to accomplish.
I just discovered your channel. Thank you for sharing this with us. I was in a chair for a few years and it was rough to be so dependent. I am walking again but still have too many limitations I wish I didn’t have. Watching your videos has really inspired me. Do you live in your own place? I have been living at home yet but I long to have a place on my own. I didn’t even think that was possible.
Thank you for watching and I’m glad that it brings value to you! I’ve been living on my own for the past eight years. I have morning care and that’s pretty much all the assistance I need for the day. It is possible!
@@coreyaustin14 Hello, I have known your story, your struggle, and a thousand things on TH-cam, just tell you that here you have a friend from Spain, life sometimes surprises us in certain ways and gives us back, as in your case, with a lifetime ahead, you have my help and friendship and I assure you that if I had to travel to your country, I would do it, you are a reference for many people who are in wheelchairs or perhaps, you are a warrior, never let your guard down, a huge hug . ...don't forget, here you have a FRIEND...and my name is Alexander.
5:39...it's kind of dangerous putting both legs up while still on the edge of the bed. Momentum will pull you head first right into your chair and on the floor. I'm a C4 quad and know this the hard way. I ended up with a nasty concussion.
I'm wondering if it'd help for you to put the weight near the inner side of the wheel that's by the bed. So you can leave a bit of space to get your wheel and caster in and outta there and don't have to keep moving the weight around. Or maybe get a bed attachment that may work similarly or hook to the say frame/leg area? I don't know if those suggestions would actually work and improve it for you though.
@@coreyaustin14 thanks, that made me smile. :) I'm not a manual wheelchair user yet, planning to get it as my secondary chair. So I don't really know if putting it on the inside may work as safely. Especially when you're trying to pull on the chair to get up. Though some kind of attachment may work better instead.
We’re you a quadriplegic at one time and now a paraplegic? How did this happen to you? I was pearlized in 1996 from a virus in my spinal cord, but have now recovered ninety percent however I live with constant horrible pain. I asked about quadriplegic because that is what your TH-cam is posted which means all four limbs.. Thanks for your video and your positive attitude. 👍🙏🏼 Joël
Thank you for watching Joel! I actually am a quadriplegic because I have impairment in all four limbs. Quadriplegia doesn't have to be full impairment. Whenever someone does mistake me for a para, it is quite the compliment lol.
Not very often. Exercising and lifting weights I think really helped my transfers the most and as time goes by just the comfortability you have with your body.

What a revelation! Thank you for this video Corey.
For sitting up, they have hospital bed trapeses to pull yourself up. It's been a lifesaver for me. They slide under the bed at the headboard.

A pull-up rope with loops would be very helpful for sitting up.
Great video thankyou,I'm struggling with my paraplegia at the minute.still learning.i find my legs feel so heavy and my feet are a nightmare
You are welcome! As a para this will be super easy for you. One day at a time! This took a long time for me to do. Thanks for watching!
LOL the way you scold your leg
Great job👍♿️
