I laminated hundreds of sheets of newspaper with epoxy to create the first ever carved newspaper and epoxy table using a vacuum bag. The base is made from welded steel and walnut to create a vintage industrial design with an acme screw for an adjustable height top. I hope you enjoy the build.

Book Covers, an unnecessary mandatory thing we had to do in school. We didnt do the funny pages for our covers, we used brown paper bags , then used sharpie markers to decorate them to how we liked them.
Yeah, I always got in trouble for doodling on my book covers.

I was a print journalist. You took me down memory lane from reading newspapers as a kid to working in a newsroom. I remember the thrill of feeling the presses running from the basement. The best thrill was when my byline was on the front page lead. Fantastic table. Beautiful gift.

I was born in 1974, and I remember the newspaper well. I grew up in Indianapolis, so the paper was big. I was always excited to read the comics as a kid. I actually used to help my best friend with her paper route in Jr. High. Good times. The table turned out amazingly. Great job!

My wife used to work in newspapers advertising. Not that long ago, she "retired" when our first was born 10 1/2 years ago. She had a superpower where she could name a paper and the parent company in every tiny town, and village in the country. She still has a weekend subscription to the NYT. It's a Sunday tradition, coffee, and the Sunday times. "Good News". The slow death of the physical paper seems to be pretty emotional for her.
I love that you gave it to him. It's a beautiful table and surely a conversation piece.
The fact that you shared your unsafe actions is really great. Shows people that accidents do happen, and that everyone makes bad choices sometimes, and to be aware of us being complacent.

Cool table, one of the most unique I have ever seen. I'm 65 and have been a wood worker at home and metal worker as a profession. The craziest one was for a bikerout of chains and sprockets. It was all laid out flat with a wooden circle border. You could see through the epoxy and it was lit from underneath with multi color neon tubes. I wish cell phones had been around then. Hopefully the table is.

I would like to add my husband and I. We had a log table, but it got broken too badly while moving from Colorado to Arkansas. I have also loved log furniture. This is the 1st time I have seen your video, and I love your chatting. We can pick it up because we have a trailer that will hold the table. I remember back when the first thing you did in the morning was read the paper. Good news or bad, that's where we saw it first. Set the tempo for the rest of the day.
Love the laminated table. I play with epoxy in my woodworking and it is so nice to see something other than a river table.
Good News - my dad worked in the newspaper industry (sport section) for 50ish years across England and later in Scotland (UK) for the Mirror Group (Manchester, London, later Glasgow w/ Daily Record). I also, briefly, worked at the same paper as him (copy section) whilst I was in high school. This build took me down memory lane, making copy papers for the editors by stapling or gluing them into the copy base - similar to how you epoxy them together actually! Also, good on you for persevering through the struggles and trusting the process and yourself to get it right eventually!! Definitely worth the effort!! Also, glass top was by far the best decision.

The “GOOD NEWS” is that you’re not alone. I too grew up on reading the Sunday paper with the family. I had to wait till my dad was finished reading the paper. Sometimes I would take the section that he’d already read. I liked to start with the sports section as a youngster that had the most pertinent information for a young lad. The worst was the opinion section, blah 🤮. As for your content, it’s definitely not blah. That’s a very creative table top. Keep up the good work.

I love this. I used to read the news paper going to school. And everytime i needed a science new, they never let me down. Those were my favorites, with the comics ones. This is a beautiful table.❤

Good news! What an absolutely incredible project! I love this! The vintage industrial look is spot on. I also loved hearing you talk about growing up reading the newspaper. I was born in 1982, so I grew up in the same era. The funny pages were the best! It's been forever since I've thought about reading the newspaper or how big of a part of life newspapers were back then, and I appreciate the amazing memories that brought up for me. I grew up in small-ish town, and just about every week there was someone I knew featured in the local newspaper. I was even in it a few times myself. While the bigger newspapers around here still exist, the one that I grew up with is now defunct, and to me that's so sad. Times change, and "progress" happens, but there's something to be said for the simpler times. C'est la vie. Anyway, thank you for the nostalgia; what a trip!

Thanks for sharing the build. Its nice to see that the pro's mess up as well. The key is to trust the process and not give up. Knowing when to walk away is probably another life skill to add to the toolbox. I love how the base turned out.

Good News you got it on the 4th try... man I'm glad I'm not the only one that makes mistakes or does unsafe things every so often and then thinks "that was not the way to do that" and then tries doing it right. I can appreciate it not being all perfect in process and outcome because it shows you are a real person working in a real shop. I also commend the camera man for just letting it happen because if he had said "you sure you want to do it that way" I know you'd sat that or mention it on camera also. So thank you for the transparency!!
Good News: THAT TABLE CAME OUT FANTASTIC!!! I especially love how that pattern you cut out created such reflections in the epoxy that contrasts with the dull color of the newspaper and the hundreds of layers of lines!
The stand was great too! (but I personally don't think it was meant for that table top.. but it still went well)

Good news! Love the industrial look. We’ve got a lot of the same newspaper memories. When my kids were toddlers we taught them to say, “See you in the funny papers.” When they were in elementary school they asked what it meant.

It's good news that you didn't end up getting hurt! I think the overall points of vector for each of the legs lent itself to being really shatter-prone.

Good news, it is awesome. What I like most in this case is your work on the legs. I see so many makers do the top and then phone in some horrible base for it turning their awesome creation into something lack luster. This is yet another awesome video. I love every time you do make a mistake because it gives me “pause” on my own projects that it’s “okay”. Spot on, on the paper and nostalgia. We used to deliver papers as a family for a couple of years that paid for a trip to Disney World and the Sunday delivery was MASSIVE but I still loved coming home when I was 10 to read the paper after making the morning route. Great video!
