Over 25 years on and this is still my favourite song of all time. Mr Gedge, you sir, are a star. And I love the fact that after an evening of surfing TH-cam for old tunes, when I click on this clip I have to suddenly turn the speakers down because it's so loud. But then I turn it up again.
I once met David on Broadgate, Leeds as I was heading to The Phonographique in 85. He was a proper gent. He was walking a ferret and drinking a pint of Tetleys, just laking about really. He talked about a new idea for a song called "Karen, I'm sorry I forgot to put the Bins out last night", and i gave a few alternative suggestions. Ten years later I realised that Flying Saucer had basically stolen all my ideas. Cheeky get.
Every now and then, a band writes a song which doesn't need a video. This is one of them. The music and lyrics say it all. I don't need to imagine the visuals to this; I (and probably every friend I know) have walked home, alone and drunk, with the words of this song stabbing into me like a knife.
No, no, it was a single take they did one night between watching back to back episodes of Masterpiece Theater. Literally filmed during the adverts. Cost £180.
Very well put. The Weddoes were a blip on the musical charts, yet so important to us. And you're right...this video, although not necessary, is perfect. I have the G. Best LP and still play it on my record player. To me, the Wedding Present began the grunge movement with UK style. God Bless the Queen for how F-ed up and angry she got the UK population...
Granted, his time in both bands may have been brief, but Shaun Charman can at least live the rest of his life knowing he was part of PEAK Wedding Present and PEAK Popguns. Weddoes were still good after his departure, but the Popguns releases after he left were very poor compared with the singles that were compiled on to Eugenie.
The George Best album, the plastic bag and this on a white 7 inch all intact nearly 40 years later!

''Slowly your beauty is eaten away,
By the scent of someone else in the blankets where we lay''
Surely the best lyric ever.
david gedge can't write the best lyric ever? i guess he surely can
One of the greatest bands ever

I skived off school to see him being interviewed by John Peel at the Irish Centre when I was 15 or 16. He was pleasantly grumpy.

Video clip is not so good, but song is excellent! David is too young.
