@@CapnCrunchESO a good first step to this game is picking one facet that you want to learn, look at videos on it, do missions that teach it and even reach out and talk to someone in game who would be willing to explain some of the tricks of the trade. Easy and cheap first steps are things like mining (especially when considering the skills needed to do these tasks - lower time requirement).

One thing I feel you glossed over is how you are not safe anywhere in space. The space police will destroy other players ships if they attack you for no reason but they may not arrive in time to save your ship. So, by all means, chill out mining in high-security space but never, ever presume you are safe. There is a large percentage of players who take great fun from destroying mining ships. And please don't watch Netflix whilst mining, you are a sitting duck. The example I've used applies to whatever you are doing in Eve, you are NEVER safe. That's what makes the game so intense. Great video nevertheless, I wish you luck o7.

Me, it's been ages since I played but I like what they've done with the place. Yet I see that Jita remains the central trade hub. Loved Eve. It's a true MMO. But I'm a classic Bartle-type socializer and when my friends left... Unlike you I don't like spending hours relaxing on my own in a game world. But that's just me. I'm thinking about coming back. I got busy last October after playing for about 6 months. I found the best way to make casual friends was to join mining groups. Eventually you'll find cool folks that are all hanging out chatting about news, world events, movies and tv, whatever. Meanwhile you can mine like madman because good groups will almost always have some defense for the group. I joined a corp at one point but really didn't like to be bugged by people to get more involved. If you're a hard working adult then it's a tricky game because of how much time you'll spend without realizing it. Especially planning ship fits and future fits. I really enjoy it but sheeez it's involved.

I've played since 2009 and wanted to add context to 2 of the cash shop things.
    1. For most of the game's life, you couldn't buy skill points at all. The in game timer to train skills was originally designed *without* microtransactions in mind. The reason for this is that it forced players to specialize to some extent. You can't do everything, and are forced to work with other players in one way or another. You can still play solo, but you still have to buy things from other players.
    2. The ability to purchase in game money with IRL money was actually originally introduced to combat real money trading, and to somewhat equalize the advantage of having multiple accounts. As an example, if you're really good at the game and make tons of money, you're able to buy plex from another player, which then pays for your subscription. Eve literally allows you to pay for the monthly fee with in game money, by letting someone else pay it for you(in exchange for in game money). So while it seems initially pay to win(and it kind of is), it actually goes the other way where people who are good at the game can get multiple accounts for free. Also people who spend IRL money to buy expensive ships usually lose them in a spectacular fashion, since they "jumped ahead" of the usual progression.
Basically the monetization stuff is weirdly fair, and not at all pay to win.

most games: i played 200 hours, I did everything there was to do, hell even played the whole game several times! i completely mastered this game
eve online: I feel like 200 hours is a good starting point
also would disagree that "all of the good ships are locked behind omega": T2 ships tend to not really be better, instead often being very specialized ships with a single, specific role in mind; for just going "basic ship but stronger", the nafy/fleet issue ships and pirate ships are a safer bet, and those can be used without omega (though i'd advise against it as considering their price tag, you will often want T2 modules on them, ESPECIALLY guns, most of which alpha players cant access)

If your goal is to go into Nulsec I would suggest investing in combat skills first.

Eve is a terrible game and you should not play it. Why?
      1. outdated mechanics
      2. Terrible Server tick
      3. Grinding isk takes way to long and is worse than working irl
      4. Metal involves like 5 ships, if you skilled anything else you wont be able to play properly
      5. Skillsystem is straight up bullshit, takes way to long to do anything worthwhile
      6. Did I mention that pvp is terrible? Think about playing a game with atleast 2000ms, that's the eve experience
I could go on about multiboxing being encouraged (holy fking shit) local existing, space to big for no reason etc.

@@babbaderbozz sry this post just tell me you dont know anything at all about EVE online. yes, the servers can be bit buggy sometimes, but the pvp system and the different ships in the game are extreamly well balanced. the ping only makes bit of a difference in grab face of the fight, meaning the start. anything else are just about using your modules properly witch dont require any sort of good ping at all.
yes, getting skills to do anything for sure takes a long time, but even a 1 month old pilot in a t1 ship can turn the tide of a battle, and someone in a 30 mill t1 cruiser can easily take down someone in a 1.5 bill t3 cruiser. when it comes to pvp, i only have a select few ships i use, and thats how it should be done. really learn the ship you can fly, before starting getting into anything else. for any cruiser pvp i use a pilgrim or a curse in 90% of the fights, and a legion in the rest. for killing frigates i use my pacifier 95% of the time, and an assult frigate in the rest. have a select few other types of ships i use in some rare occasions aswell, but my ooint is that you dont need 100 mill SP in order to be an efficient pvp pilot and have funn with it. infact we have a guy in the corp that have over 300 mill SP and can fly more or less all ships in the game with almost perfect skills, but he is a clueless moron that cant kill anything on his own.
regarding making isk, you have a bunch of people sitting in ventures in high sec mining veldspar. ofc it takes long time to earn isk. is all about what you make out of it, and how risk you willing to take, and where you live. im running 3 accounts, and if i sitt where i live out in NS and do merxocit mining, i make around 550 mill an hour, witch im quite happy with. you can also run t6 abyssal sites making you 500 mill an hour on 1 toon, but that for most part require a 5-6 bill gila and an experienced pilot, and you loose your ship if you mess up. carrier ratting in NS should make you around 200 mill an hour on a single toon, and if you into production theres ways to make you quite good isk thats kinda passive and aint require you to even be online for most parts

I never attained anything noteworthy in this game. But damn, it brings back good memories. In the early hours, just somewhere in deep space, exploring or doing missions.
About a year ago I joined a null sec corp, but realized it was too involved. You had to be "on comms" to report activity or assist your corp members. We had these excursions with 10 - 20 players, just roaming and looking for a fight. They were hella fun. But I enjoy playing on my own too much so that part of the game is unsustainable (and that's okay).
I left and started exploration. Let me tell ya, nothing gets your heart pumping like when you see something pop up in that directional scanner. Drop everything, get away and cloak if you don't want to lose your loot. Your heart rate goes up to 140. It's crazy adrenaline.

I've been playing Eve since its launch. Yes, I am that old! Granted I've taken years off from playing regularly. Eve is a game you are either going to live or hate. It's not a difficult game to just play. You can care bear around for decades if you feel like it. You can run a massive evil empire that is constantly at war. You can mine one particular type of asteroid for 5 years and do nothing else. You can fight only other players. You can fight only npc players. Eve truly is a sandbox more than any game I have ever played. I have always told people to just download the game and try it. It made it much easier when the f2p option rolled out.

Nice response to the game brought back a few memories and nightmares. The first few years are the most fun, not played for a decade, don't think I could take going back. My biggest issues was you had to pay to grind before you could start to play. The small pvp stuff was fun with friends but then you had to grind to be able to do that unless you wanted to pour money into the game. The majority of pvp ended up with gate camping which was boring like hanging around at street corners waiting for a fight, the large fleet battles were the closest I've felt to being in the borg... but then there was some really fun small fleet fights.

"200 hours in and barely scratched the surface" is a MASSIVE Understatement m8. I'm about 15 years in. Have ships almost as old aswell. been in tons of small and large and even a few Massive Wars in new eden. I have yet to unlock and do everything, tho I haven't chased everything yet to be fair. I've got detailed Stories I could write books with and gotten my shit kicked in more times than I can count. but I've also made the most amazing and genuine Friends I could ever meet through EVE aswell. but it is Autism+ with a little extra Tism+(squared) that being said I've also done a few moments where I've taken breaks for months at a time because of Burnout. "EVE IS REAL" is a term you will find VERY accurate after a while. you'll get it. my only advice to anyone who starts new in eve is. if it smells like a Scam, it is, if it sounds like Bullshit, it is, if you're wondering what you can do in EVE, find friends. Find an active Corporation WITH comms and say hello to them. get to know them. if you need to change group, do it. until you find one that makes you enjoy and have fun ^^

    Playing this game since 2014.
I used to be a miner, then switched to mission runner, then nullsec player, and eventually became a WH player.
You can generate 3-4 billion ISK within 1-2 hours in wh. However, people still need to find a good way to spend the money.
What is it? Yes, it's PvP. All activities eventually turn into PvP.
EVE is fun, especially when built around PvP.
Spending too much time in PvE without engaging in PvP may lead to losing enthusiasm for the game.

@@CapnCrunchESO Fleet battles are... something for sure. Problem is, you're basically in the passenger seat, with FC being the driver. You have little control of where things are going, making it very bad environment for actually learning PVP. They also come in different varieties - super boring with nothing happening, super nice with you getting a ton of kills, supper stressful when your side is taking a beating, or - my favorite as Logi - super fast with you getting volleyed off the field before anyone else... Other than that - the visuals can be breathtaking. If your PC can handle them, ofc...
As for setting up a moon op... Yeah, maybe you want to join a moon owning Corp temporarily to learn more about what it takes to own/operate a moon rig... That stuff isn't for everyone, and definitely ill suited for a Solo player. For a small group of friends however - it can be a very nice medium term goal.

Learning the game is very exciting. I started playing in 2006. Before all the new content was added. It was 15.00 per month and every skill point earned by in-game time, after fighting giant battles in null sec and mining, exploring the map, and figuring out how to get ahead by buying blueprints and selling goods on the market. I was in Tash-Murkon and two random guys came out of a wormhole and asked me if I wanted to join their corp I thought why not and it was the beginning of so many spectacular experiences living in that wormhole making tons of ISk doing Sleeper sights in all kinds of different ships and fleets. You see I had been training to fly capitals when they met me and I turned out to be a huge asset with my skill level. We would take on Sleepers with two Capital ships and five Tangoes. That must be what they are talking about only scratching the surface. So what i am saying is only when you find a group of people you can really trust and know they respect you and have the same desire to win as a team then the game becomes fantastic. I still have my Nidhauger and billions of ISK and skill points, but haven't played in three years.

Eve is a beautiful and fully immersive game that allows your imagination to take over. The music pf Eve is perfect for the game and i miss the in-game music option it had all those years ago.
The only thing i don't like is the pay to upgrade option that tends to become part of all games eventually.

I tried for over 12 hours just to play the intro levels and I got stuck on 3/5 for the first mission. Having to get something with probes. The game I found didn't explain it well at all and like I said, I tried for close to 12 hours on that one mission. The learning curve felt too steep and lacked any help. I went through the help system and found out how to launch the probe, launched all 8 at once and still didn't do a thing. Then I was left with no probes, couldn't complete the mission, couldn't get the probes back, etc. Just writing all of this out I feel the anger and frustration that I was having with the game. I really, really wanted to give it a chance, it looks stunning, but if I couldn't complete even the basic beginner's quest, what would be the point?

You launched the probes but did you scan after that? Mission probably said "launch and scan for anomalies" but you expected launching them would mean it scans as well but it doesn't, and it's intended like that since you can move the probes on the map after launching to pick up different signature strengths. I agree it's not begginer friendly, but you played like 1% of the game at that point, if that's all you need to call quits that's understandable, just know you haven't really even played the game like everyone else has.

I played Eve from start till 2010, came back to it like 3 years ago, but didn't stay long tbh.
Obviously, this game is more about PVP than anything else, but having plenty of other elements to make everything work.
I am in the minority, but... I love Roleplaying. I love creating a character, with a personality and everything, create stories. And that is probably why I am not playing anymore.
Eve doesn't really have any tools for that kinda stuff, except for when they were actually working on " walking in stations " which was cancelled. Which was a true shame to me, I was really looking forward to that.
The thing that is a letdown for me concerning Eve, is that they created some of the absolutely, most fascinating background story I have ever seen, with very interesting human factions.
The factions, the rivalry, the direction these factions and all went. And to me, creating such amazing story content for a game, that does not have much tools to support playing those factions in a RP kinda fashion, is where I can't connect. To me it feels like something that could have been so great, but missing out.
But in the RP arena, research, production of this and that, traveling in space, explore... Eve is truly amazing, still going strong after 20 years.
If Eve had mechanics that allowed for RP to connect, like character movement and all... I probably would have never left.
But that is just my view on it all:)

Sadly that's about only false information provided in this otherwise very good video. Sure most Tech2 stuff is locked, but Eve is mostly about roles, especially in PvP combat. You can literally be THE most useful pilot in a 100 man fleet with flying a cheap tackler (chear ship that locks down the target while others shoot it down). So that statement is a bit unfair. You can enjoy the game and be useful to yourself and others without omega subscription for a fairly long time. By then you could probably be able to pay for it with ingame currency anyway.

@@nope.nope.3704 I agree that aiming to own a Moon is a bit of a overreach. Might work as a long term goal, not nearly something you should expect to reach short-term. I believe it would be best to break down the overall goal in multiple smaller steps - the last of which should be affordability. Firstly - finding a place for your rig. Namely, a system and moon with the safety/ore you're after. Owning just any old moon is rather... pointless. Secondly - learning all there is about structure protection. How war-decks work, how fueling/operating the structure itself happens...
There's plenty of stuff to learn/achieve before actually anchoring the structure, and going through everything in order is very helpful. Maybe it deters you from making the investment upon you realizing the trouble it involves. Maybe on the contrary - it enforces your wish, and makes you learn much more of the game to make your dreams true. Either outcome is fine, as long as you're fully aware what the final result involves.

In Eve you can fly a ship, but to properly fly that ship it will take another 6 - 8 months to fully train the supporting skills, it's a long and skill intensive game, since they added Free to Play they have expanded the skill point buying options, long time back they said that would never happen, buying skill points. Now it's catering to the Fortnite/Steam/GTA crowd, if your wallet is big enough you can fly capital ships in little over a day, you have no idea how they work and what to do with them, but as long as you're paying to play they don't care, the sound and graphics have always been excellent, they have improved but were always the best. Played since 2004 took a few breaks.

Yeah I ran into that today actually, I spent like a week training the skills to use the modulated mining lasers, equipped them, bought the modulation crystals and then realized I need to train for another week to be able to use the crystals :(

I solo live in low sec. Mining and huffing gas. I compress it all with a small operation and haul it all to go sec to sell. I hunt down hi value rats with a Tengu or Loki in low sec belts (50 to 100+million per rat). Covert ops cloak is very overpowered once you have an operation set up in a quiet dead end low sec system.

I've been on the fence about getting into Eve for so long... I started once about 10 years ago but lost interest after 50 hours or so because I couldn't figure out what to do without just getting killed immediately, and I couldn't find anyone in game to learn from that was willing to play with a new player.
Maybe I should give it another shot. The impression I got back then was that the community was not welcoming to new players at all. Things definitely could have changed though.

Yeah it’s a bit confusing on what you’re supposed to be doing at first. They added that career program thing in the menu to help with that. Try joining a corp with people willing to help new players it’s been a game changer for me. Literally

As a father with rpg and board game groups, as well as tons of varied creative interests, i would just never be able to invest the time. If i cant pick it up and put it down easily, getting meaningful gaming experiences out of a two to three hour session, then it is not the game for me.

I feel like the big question every new player has is: "what's my goal?" I still don't know. It feels like everything comes back to ISK/hr. Buy why am I earning all of this ISK? Is it just so I can buy things that with further increase my ISK/hr? :P
Coming from something like WoW, I feel like the game needs a "big boss" or something. Like some kind of NPC evil that corporations can fight against or solo players can help defeat by building equipment. It'd need to be on par with something like the opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. It'd need to be something so big that everyone in game is working to beat it together whether by mining minerals, finding rare blueprints, building ships, or actually flying out to fight it.

    • @umadbroimatroll7918
      @umadbroimatroll7918 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Gotta get into pvp, its the real endgame tbh. Without that eventually you will beat the game, have the best in slot items, a low to do the best missions, avoiding pvp. The game changes so much when you allow yourself to have some risk, or spend some time going to do pvp.

they key to eve is finding players to do stuff with. Nullsec alliances are where the game really opens up. decent mechanical review, but he misses what is actually going on with the playerbase. eve is a social game and whole documentaries have been written about only that aspect. 20$ a month does not describe the mature player either. when i quit i ran 7-9 accounts on loadup. each needing to be either subscribed, or plex purchased with ISK every month. i understand not everyone goes that far, but it is common to have more than one account.
