Yes, but I’m still out off the coast of Norway! I was recording like crazy so I could keep my upload schedule while I’m away. I’ll be back home next week!
Where in the coast of Norway?? I live near Ålesund on the westcoast, and would happily guide you on a scenic run 🏔️ Nice review as always, newer tried a Salamon running shoe, but maybe after this…did this pair end up in your suitcase??
@@tomaudunrosslandknutsen49 Ugh! I wish I had known you were close by Ålesund! It would have been fun to meet up! I’m in Olden today and this is my last day here. No, these didn’t make the suitcase. I brought the Hoka Challenger 7s and Brooks Hyperion Max with me.
Excellent review, Matt! That looks like a solid choice for an everyday trainer, and no I've never run (or skied or skated) in Salomons. You made a strong case for the Reebok Floatride Energy 5 recently, another daily trainer and at a lower price. I've also seen recommendations for the Puma Velocity Nitro, and early reviews are positive on the Saucony Axon 3. It's a crowded field and TBH I'm not all that picky for typical daily runs. I'd rather have lots of shoes to pick from than try to find one perfect pair, and on a given day I could usually get along in a max cushioned shoe or a racing shoe or something I snagged off eBay for $30 because I liked the colors. But I don't see anything that would make me not want to run in these either. More importantly, Salomon and Reebok need to get together and have a discussion about shoelace length from the looks of it!
You’re right about a needed lace-colab between Reebok and Salomon. They could potentially make the perfect laces! 🤣 The field sure is stacked with this type of shoe. Most companies are making solid contenders in this category. It really comes down to who can price their shoes the best or who is just committed to their brand of choice.
Awesome Videos - THANK YOU Matt. Any chance you would do a video on the top five trainer road shoes and then a top 5 road racing shoes - so many options out there - lol!
🤣 There sure is no shortage of choices for us! Yes, I can do a top 5 but (obviously) I can only do the shoes I have and there are a lot out there I haven’t tried…. I’ll keep going and see what I can put together. For now, the Hoka Rocket X2 is my favorite race day shoe, although I think the Endo Elite may be a little faster for me. As far as road shoes (training), I still think the Brooks Hyperion Max is top of my list for shoe of the year so far, although Hoka’s Challenger 7 is such a good all-rounder….ugh! Choices!
@@its_Matt_B_ just got back home. It worked out great. I have to say your review of this shoe is amazing! I don’t think you could have done anything better!
I think the S/Lab version of the Phantasm had a plate, but the regular Phantasm didn't. I had the regular one and it really was a fantastic shoe! I'm looking forward to what Salomon comes up with in v2 of the Phantasm!
What`s about sizing? You have aero glide and auero volt are they the same size? I've also have aero glide and when I try volt it seems like they are a bit bigger
@@its_Matt_B_ Personally, for me volt has to be in 0.5 size less than aero, and it fits me perfect, I like them a lot, but there is a durability issue. The glue, which is inside the shoe, is not good, when I apply pressure to the fabric, the fabric rolls
I think this was a great choice! It’s going to give you enough protection to log your longer runs but it’s also light enough than it won’t weigh you down when you been to pick up the pace. When is your race?
@@its_Matt_B_I did it, man. I have run my first half-marathon in a pair of Aero Volt. I found it's rather hard to switch to a slow pace when you need to take a break in these shoes. You either run fast or you walk, no in-between. Next time I'm gonna try one of the top Brooks or Nike models, I think.
@@Littlemangoneinsane Wow!! Huge congratulations on your race! This is a big deal, and the first of many! I'm glad to hear the shoes worked well for you!
@@its_Matt_B_ Thank you. It was a hard race to finish as I've had a rough week coming up to it, but I learned a lot and I figure to do much better when we do it again in May.
The energy return is pretty good although it is nothing like PWRRUN PB. Salomon’s Energy foam is quite a bit firmer than PWRRUN PB and, IMO, better as a daily trainer than a race day shoe, which is what I think of with PWRRUN PB.
@@TolunayOrkun This is a great question and a comparison I hadn't thought of. The feeling is similar to my Hyperion Max but if I had to choose which is more responsive I would go with the Brooks!
@@its_Matt_B_ How would you compare the Aero Volt and the Hyperion Tempo directly against each other. I currently the Hyperion Tempo for workouts, and looking for a daily trainer that isn't max stack and overly compressive foam
@@alexevans9863 The Volt fits your need for a daily trainer that isn't max stack with an overly compressive foam. I haven't run in the Hyperion Tempo, but I imagine it feels like a faster Hyperion Max with the DNA Flash, so if that's the case the Volt feels slightly firmer and less responsive.
Stop it, please. I've just retired two pairs of shoes from my rotation this evening and was considering a new pair of general shoes but I really, really shouldn't. They sound great, but I really, really shouldn't.
Shoes last longer when we rotate them and when shoes last longer, we’re helping the environment! Also, the economy gets a huge boost every time you buy! Sorry. I don’t make the rules! 🤣
It's nice to see Salomon expand it's scope beyond the trails.
Their road shoes keep getting better and better every year!

I love the trail shoes of Salomon, might get a pair of road shoes aswell, probably would go for the aero max though.
Salomon has been on top of the trailrunning game for a long time, but they've come a long way with their road shoes in the last couple years!
