    I live in Florida so sweat level on a bike is 108/10, your client will ask if it was raining. E Scooter for me

      But it really depends. On that short 3km ride that was basically flatland, it really doesn't make a difference in sweat. Sure I'm not living in florida, but days can be pretty damn hot and humid in summer. For me on the circumstances, the bike doesn't make a difference. When I sweat, it's because of heat, not because of rather casually cycling 3km.
      Of course, steep/long hills and/or longer distances will increase sweat leves exponentionally.

      I live in Nebraska and our summers can be just as bad, if not worse than Florida. This week we will be in the low to mid 90's with heat indexes pushing 100, and we are still nearly 2 months away from the average peek heat. Just drop down a gear or two and have some water at hand. I commute 8km to work and rarely arrive more sweaty than my co workers that drive. Most times they are worse from their 2-3 block walk after parking their car.

    • @durkadur27
      @durkadur27 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In florida you would expect someone to be kinda sweaty because it's so hot and humid. You can't judge someone for that. I sweat driving around in my car with ac on. It's just the way it is.

    I'd say those scooters and rental bikes (electric or not) do make sense when you DONT have a bike next to you.
    Say you are going to work via Tram or Bus everyday. Or by car, if your workspace is to far away and public transit connections sucks. If you then wanna see that client immediately, which is those 3km away, your own bike won't be there and in that case, those scooters and bikes could be very handy.

    Good comparison, but you start the timer for your own bike while you're on it, so it seems like there's no unlocking or locking time included. If you count the time to find a rental, shouldn't you include the time to secure your own ride as well?

      E-scooters fill a wonderful niche. They pair better with public transportation and rideshare, just more transportable so you can pretty much bring one anywhere. And they're relatively inexpensive compared to electric bikes.

    Interesting comparison - thankfully I have my own bike and don’t have to rely on a sharing program for me. When I was driving to work it was approximately a 25min commute, my bike commute is right around the 32min mark and taking public transit (bus) is an unbelievable 70mins. For the time and convenience of the bike with the added benefits of getting exercise AND lowering emissions the Bike is the perfect choice for me. I own all three, they all have a place. E-scooter is zero sweat level and easy to take inside with you. I love the e-bike but can get nervous leaving it outside (even locked, it gets a lot of looks). The regular bike is a cheap single speed that was left in our yard when we bought the house, so no fears of theft there and great workout. I'd only pay for Lime if there's no other option (I drove somewhere and don't have my scooter) or I'm with a friend and joining them.

    It also depends if you have a good place to store your bike. For example, if I am going out and won't see my bike for over an hour (movies or some other event), I won't take my bike because I'd rather not chance it being stolen. But being that most of my errands don't last more than an hour (within a given store) before I see my bike again, I take my bike 90% of the time, maybe more.

    The cost for cycling isn't free. It still uses energy, but in this case your own energy. You probably only used 150 kcals or so plus micronutrients so the cost of half a sandwich. Not a lot but still something to consider because it is only for free if you want to turn into a skeleton. I prefer e scooter because it's easier to carry around and can take it into shops etc... without much fuss and can sustain higher speeds for longer for the average person.

    Bikeshare & Scootershare have never made sense to me as far as scaling goes. If they get popular, you can't find one, because they're all being used and gravitate towards a few clustered destinations. They idea that there is always one near you is just counterintuitive. And if you can't count on finding one, or start to and get burned a few times, you end up never trying it again, or gravitate towards ownership, which in the end is MUCH more enabling for constant Active Transportation than the "shares". China seemed to have proved that it's a broken capitalistic model too if left unmanaged by central organization. It requires municipal management to oversee that it's carbon efficient AND not creating a heap of bikes left in random places. Not a fan of those for-profit sharing company models at all. Thanks for sharing your results.
