    I think you should do a quarter mile test and show how was done Robert in the Volvo

      I have done a few in the past but they must have gotten erased as I move the gauge from one car to another.

    I have one on my 2010 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI... I programed the XGauge to monitor special gauges for the VW... like EGT, Turbo Boost, DPF back pressure and CAT temperature... Also I display actual water temp. My car has a buffered water temp gauge that shows 12Oclock when water temp is normal 170-210F.

    Hi Robert, thank you for your many very informative videos. I got a scangauge2 for my Volvo 850 T5 MY 96, first registered in Sweden in September 1995. The scangauge doesnt work with the Volvo. On Tag GAUGE, it shows the titles RPM, LHK, BST, …, but it doesn’t show any values to the titles. However it works fine with a Saab 9000 MY 97. Is it possible that this Volvo is not yet really OBD2 compatible? Might it be due to a Motronic 4.3? Instead of a Motronic 4.4? Is the Volvo 850 upgeadable to a Motronic 4.4? By the way, the Veepeak you recommended works fine with the Volvo OBD2 plug.
    Thanks a lot,
    Claude

      Hi Robert, I think the problem comes from different regulations in United States and Europe. In USA, OBD2 was compulsory since 1996. In Europe, it became compulsory only in 2000. So a European Volvo from 1996 has a port installed, that is similar to an OBD2 port. But the informations arriving at this port from the different ECU’s are not OBD2 compatible. It seems to be a mixture between OBD1 and OBD2. Why Volvo did that, don’t ask me. Probably money money again. Thank you for your quick reply. I’m watching almost each of your video’s. The best Volvo 850 site at all… !!!

    Hi Robert! Have you tested that how accurate is the trip computer of these 850s in case of fuel consumption? Can we believe it?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LPFan3118 Yes, but it is an easy test. Get a fuel container, fill it with fuel, drive around until your car sputters of fuel and then stop immediately and add the fuel you have in the container. When I tested one of my cars the indicator went all the way down to 5 miles or less, and 1.5 miles later it began to sputter. I have let my current car go down to 20 or less on several occasions without any problem. BE ADVISED, running a car OUT of fuel is VERY BAD for the FUEL PUMP.

    • @PaulB__
      @PaulB__ 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert DIY Ok,thank you, I will try that. But what is then when you compare with the Scan Gauge II? How accurate is the car's own computer? I mean current mpg and average mpg.

      LOL, It is pretty nice and useful. My favorite thing to do is go from A to B going 2 different routes. Check the actual gas cost each way and know which is cheapest. I tried that going to church and was able to save about $104 per year just going to church and back the cheap route.

  •  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    shouldn't it be charging at 14+V?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Žilvinas Titenis It probably is, however, this OBD2 tool doesn't show the full output of the alternator. When I look at my boost gauge volts, it is usually at 14.2 or something like that.

  • @LJRossPhoto
    @LJRossPhoto 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I'm finally going to break down and buy this ($159.95 on Amazon). Just out of curiosity, will it show the total miles of the car? My odometer went out for about 8 years. I fixed it, so it works now, but either way, I'm not sure of how many miles are on the engine. Is there any way to figure this out?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. It does have special features called XGauge that allows you to program the tool to do a lot of things that I have not dove into. If you go to their FaceBook page, there may be someone there that has done it. The problem with that is, if you can read it, there is a good chance that you can change it. What kind of car do you have?

    I bought one a year ago after seeing it in your videos. I do like the info it gives me, but to be honest half of the things it monitors are things irrelevant to me and I find it has not really trained me to drive more conservatively, my dodge avenger also has no advanced x-gauges available i can add. But there's plenty i do love about it. My car is a base model so it does not give me any info such as mpg, voltage, i wish it showed oil pressure.

      Philip Yuen What would be the purpose of an oil temp gauge?

    • @philipyuen3978
      @philipyuen3978 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oil temperature is a little higher than coolant temp, and BMW's thermostat temp is 222F, and can run as high as 229F, and cooling system temp too high is a known problem. BMW has an option to show oil temp on dash and I am in the process of fixing dead pixels. I want to make sure engine doesn't run high in temperature. Both scan gauge 2 and Ultra Gauge only have coolant temp. I like scan gauge and may consider buying Ultra Gauge to compare with it. Ultra Gauge has a bigger and thinner screen. BMW claims that running coolant as 222F burns fuel cleaner.
