I was one of the first New York City Police Officers to get the Glock 19 in the late 80's. I also trained police officers with Glock 19. I carried a Gen 3 later after I retired. Then I switched to S&W M&P's. Bought a M&P CORE which is my favorite, a full size M&P in FDE that I used in a 2 day Carbine and pistol course when I was 69 years old. Put 800 rounds through one in 2 days without a hitch. Since then I've carried the M&P Shield, Shield Plus and Compact 2.0. All great guns. My opinion is that they're all reliable. Glock and the S&W M&P. I'm 73 today and still train with the Glock 19 Gen 5 and all my M&P's. Now I'm training my self to shoot with red dot optics on the Glock 19 Gen. 5 and a couple of my M&P's.
I love my Glocks and will never get rid of them. But they sit in my safe now my M&Ps are my go tos. I’ve been wanting to pick my gen 5 Glock 17 up lately tho
I switched from Glock to Smith M&P a couple years ago. Glock is a great platform, never go wrong with reliability. You can depend on it. That being said, the M&P line is everything I said about Glock. including better OEM triggers than Glock. Plus, Smith & Wesson is American that's a plus for me. But besides that, I am well impressed with my M&Ps!
Glock has a better history when it comes to 2nd Ammendment support. That was in the 1999-2001 time frame though and S&W has changed ownership a few times since then. Seems like they're in line with the 2A these days. You can kind of tell by their current line up. A possible sign of gun control freaks taking ownership of a gun company is the lack of variety offered and popular models being discontinued. Back then they discontinued all their 3rd generation autos. Most their revolvers larger than a J frame, and all they had was the Sigma, a Glock copy as determined by a civil court but not as good and some other stupid shit nobody wanted. I prefer DA/SA trigger autos but I've had a few different Glocks and a M&P 2.0 full size. That M&P is kind of s better gun. If it was the compact or one of the long slide models I would have kept it.
M&P 2.0 is what I've decided to go with for my first gun. I finally held a full size last week and that grip made all the difference. I have naturally clammy hands and that thing was not moving. Excited to get mine soon.
The M&P 2.0 4.25in and compact 4inch just became legal for us in California earlier this year, got mine sent off to be milled for an RMR optic with the suppressor height sights and now I'm completely in love. Previously owned a Glock 17 which still feels like an old classic when I shoot them, but the M&P just feels modern with the times.
Glad to hear that and I’m glad that you guys in Cali are able to get newer stuff. It makes me happy that people in your state are still fighting an uphill battle no matter how difficult it seems. Hopefully this means that Cali will no longer be a Gen 3 Glock state.
I think Glocks are great. Started shooting them in 1983. But I think S&W has learnt the lessons and brought the Glock idea up to date. It was a great unbiased review, which gave us user preference based on experience and shooting style. Thanks Coch, great content as always.
Gen 5 g19 was my first handgun a few years ago, shot a bunch and tried a few more pistols and recently landed on a 2.0 m&p and I love it so far, comes with upgrades from the factory and has a great optic mounting system
I have owned Glocks since the early 90's. 14+ years ago I decided to try a M&P, then another and another and so on. I have several M&P's full size 1.0 models and 2.0's, 1.0 9C's and 2.0 compacts. Several of my M&P's have well over 10k rds through them, never an issue, never replaced a part. I have 2 of the full size 1.0's that I let people at the range shoot, friends and my kids with mostly steel case ammo without cleaning them, just to run a ton of ammo though them to see when they would start having issues. They kept running when I finally felt bad about how dirty they were and stripped them down to clean them after several thousand rounds of steel case ammo. Coch comment, "if you are a Glock guy, try one of these, you may not be as much of a Glock guy as you thought you were" I kept telling a friend that wouldn't have anything but a Glock, you really need to shoot one of my M&P's. "I wouldn't have anything other than a Glock". We went to the range, I had full size 9mm, compact 9mm and 45 M&P's laying on the table and told him to shoot any that he wanted. A couple weeks later, he called to tell me he purchased a M&P. Now a few years later, he probably owns more M&P's than I do!
9:18 Both my G17 and G45 came with 6 replaceable backstraps. S, M, L and S, M, L with a beaver tail. I own those 2 Glocks and S&W 4” Compact, Shield, Shield Plus, Shield EZ. All great guns. I own other pistols and revolvers but the M&P Compact and Shield plus are always my carry and home defense guns. I have on multiple times tho, kept my G17 locked in a safe in my SUV, because, well I know I can trust it in any climate and anyone (mainly my wife) can shoot it without thinking about safeties or anything. So both great tools and I use them for didn’t jobs, like any other tool.
Awesome!! Why not a slightly longer pistol like a 4.25" or 5" if it's a duty gun? Just curious seeing as it obviously isn't carried concealed. What is in your duty mags, Federal HST? Speer Gold Dot? Ranger T?
I’ve used Glocks for years, and I don’t believe you have to do a lot of things to them to make them great; however, I now carry this version of the M&P with the Holosun 507c and love it. The trigger is very good, especially for a factory trigger. I’ve always shot Glocks well, and frankly I don’t shoot the M&P any better, but the trigger on the M&P is better, for me. I do like the grip texture better than the Glock, and I like that its American made. I also like the slide serrations better on the M&P as well. Can’t go wrong with either, but I do think if S&W had produced this pistol 25 years ago they’d own the market today instead of Glock. It’s that good. If you haven’t shot the new M&P M2.0 you really are missing out. It is perhaps the best COTS offering today.
M&P 2.0 has better ergonomics with 18° grip angle, better trigger and sights. Hands down S&W blows Glock away in almost every category. The only thing Glock wins is aftermarket support. You need Aftermarket upgrades because stock Glock sucks
The only thing I've ever had to do to my Glocks is change the sights. This notion that you "have to" spend $500 changing the gun is false. If someone "wants to", I totally understand.
If you're new to shooting I'd buy the Glock, mine really helped me see the flaws in my shooting and I've improved a ton. But if you have a background in 1911 style guns and triggers the M&P is a no brainer. I'm hoping to pick up one pretty soon.
It's nice to have the choices we have now in handguns, When I started we had 1911's, BHP, and S&W GEN 1 and 2 semi, were the common autos, and plenty of Colt, S&W and Ruger Revolvers. Try and find what you like and shoot well, not matter what it is. Both are great guns.
Great video Coch! Thanks for sharing your insight about these two compact shooters. I am not a Glock Guy, but was carrying one as a PO, and so got one (or so) of my own to train, practice, use, etc. Now I am neck deep in Glock infrastructure - I have storage containers of mags, sights, holsters, and who knows what else...So, I guess I am a Glock Guy after all. At this point, I cant afford to switch platforms now. I have made it work thus far, and I will continue to do so. But I do appreciate seeing & hearing about all the other players in this field.
Thanks for the comparison and your insight, Coch. We truly are spoiled for choice these days on gun choices. People can find the one that suits them best. Cheers! 👍🏻
Used the Glocks because they were issued to me for work. But not a great fan of them. Like the M&P and would prefer them of the two. But my carry now is the FN 509 midsize.
Had to do a number of Glock 19 gen 3 mods to get it close to what I wanted. Yet, still that lingering doubt on long term reliability. Need to try more of the M&P series pistols to compare
For years I was staunchly opposed to M&Ps based on aesthetics alone. Then I fired one. Eventually I bought a Compact 2.0. The grippy texture makes a big difference when it's hot and humid. Glocks are terrific, but I've never loved the trigger or ergonomics. That's why I no longer own any.
I bought my first M&P years ago because I’m left handed and it had ambi controls or I would’ve bought the Glock 19. I’ve stayed with Smith and Wesson for all these years. But I don’t hate on the Glock. It works and it’s dishwasher safe 😜
I recently shot an M&P, though I've trained with a Glock more, I do really like the feel of the M&P, and the disassembly process is so quick and easy an ATF agent couldn't mess it up.
Greets from South Africa! I have both the Gen 5 G19 (and other Glocks) and 3 x M&P 2.0's. Both are tier 1 pistols that I would go to war with anytime. The M&P 2.0 is really something else though, the bore axis just works better, the grip texture is phenomenal, comes with 3 mags (yes, our Austrian made Glocks only come with 2 mags) and mag spacers as well, which is just awesome! The fact I have 3 x M&P 2.0's should tell you which way I lean. That said, I want a Gen 5 Glock 23 after playing with one this weekend and M&P 2.0 4" in .40S&W now, because why not...?!
I went from revolvers to a sig 226 in 1987 and carried the 226 for the remainder of my 25 years. I then changed agencies and was issued a Glock 19 and learned about grip angle.
We in this wonderful place where you can basically just just which gun you like the looks of from whichever big manufacturer you want. Both these guns are great and i would run either one. For my money i would prob choose the m&p because i could probably find it a bit cheaper and not have to upgrade sights as quick. Both great, as is walther pdp, or cz p10. Still taking my p07 over either of these 😎
I love Glock grips. I used to carry Sig 228's,229's and 226's. I switched to Glock and prefer them. I do have a couple M&P's that I really like though.
I made the switch to M&P once the 2.0’s with flat trigger came out. I carry a Performance Center Shield Plus and wouldn’t change a thing about it. For mid to full size guns I went with the 509 series by FN.
Have both. The SW trigger doesn’t have enough thump to give Me confidence it’s going to set off a hard primer. Also the mags barely click when I lock them in. Both good choices but I just trust the Glock more under adverse Conditions.
I started with the full size 2.0 with original trigger shoe and safety along with not optic ready but with a dovedot sight adapter with 507k, deleted the safety and a precision overwatch flat face trigger all done myself no gunsmith exp....2500+rounds later not the first malfuction or issue with 507k i love mine and will always be SW fan....want to get the new shield carry comp next
i like the grip on my M&P. i have on older one that i put a apex trigger in and its my favorite pistol. i recently got a glock 19M gen 5 mos that i put a holosun on and i really like it now.
I carry a Glock 43x mos with night fusion sights and a train with purpose trigger shoe. My next pistol is an m&p 2.0 optics ready for dedicated home defense and shtf pistol
M& P 40 was my first . Like my G34 9 too. Carry Spfld XD 9vor 45 just sweet in jean pocket . Used to compete weekly . All about whats in your hand and the brain realizing what s going on overall. Do appreciate 191q grip angle overall
Dude…no P226 is going to beat the Glock or this M&P. There are plenty accounts of Glocks having several hundred thousand rounds through them. The Glock will out perform the P226 all day long, and they’re a lot less expensive and much easier to maintain. Otherwise, fantastic review.
I personally started on a P226 and my lizard brain can not comprehend the Glock grip angle. I have to think about pushing the front of the gun down otherwise im shooting for the moon. I carry a m&p shield 40 every day. I don’t have to think about that glorious angle. It points naturally for me. I’m sure if i started on Glock it would be a different story. If i had thousands of rounds through a Glock I’m sure it would be just as natural, but i prefer my smith over a Glock. I don’t have to fit in with the boys. My smith works, it points naturally, and I’m super uncool. What else do i need?
It's so hard to like these kind of pistols after starting with a P226. I started with a Beretta 92FS. Then I decided to buy it's nemesis the P226, West German marked one at that. Later I got a Glock 19 and it was alright but kind of felt less than. I finally got a plastic striker pistol that gave me that 92FS/P226 feeling. That "Damn this is a nice gun" feeling. Walther P99AS
Can't go wrong with a Glock 19/23. Nite Sites, a Streamlight, and some talon grips on a Gen 3 is perfect IMO. That is until I got hold of a M&P 2.0. Coch is rite... The grip angle and texture feel more natural in the hand. It's a natural point and shoot weapon.
Have a G19 and the M&P Compact. Both are sweet shooting guns. I'd choose the M&P every day. But I really prefer the CZ 75 platform or the Sig Pro Series
Never felt the need to disagree with Coch before but now I got to. Your issue with rear sights is a function of that sight or your armorer. I’ve owned a boatload of Glocks and never had that issue. Glocks also come with replaceable back straps. If you find a polymer S&W something to show off, that’s a personal decision. You can get Glocks with different colored frames and slides. I had a gen 4 19 with a green frame and silver slide. Grip angle, I agree with you. I started out with 1911s. But it only takes training to get past this. In all honesty I’ve never shot or even handled the Smith. What you really need to do is try the Wather PDP. Grip angle, texture, trigger, it has it all. Or, one of my Dan Wesson 1911s.
I Ike both guns. I can shoot both well. I can just pickup the SW take my grip and fire and all is well, with the Glock, I always feel like I’m making adjustments to get my grip secure. But maybe that’s just me, I like both a lot.
I disagree about the need to do major upgrades to the Glock. For the Gen 5, sights are about all that is needed. As to M&P, it is also a very fine choice. Just depends on what you like.
M and P 2.0 series for me. Never had any issues with the 1.0 or 2.0 series. You really can't go wrong with the M&P or Glock & both are reliable and well proven platforms. It's just a matter of preference.
I have both, the G19 is probably the most common pistol in circulation… It’s too bad the stock trigger and grip angle are trash. The M&P was decent out of the box, and great with an Apex flatty.
I started with a G23 in 2000. I have used Glock, Sig, and S&W. In the past couple years I’ve gone back to Glock. All the other guns are great, I just prefer the Glock platform for some reason.
Both platforms are great. The Gen5 Glock has more foolproof reloading due to the flared mag port. The M&P has a nicer grip texture and shape. Either gun will save your hide or kick ass in competition.
I have a G19 and an M&P9c Gen1 with an Apex Duty kit. The M&P9c feels better in your hand. It's more comfortable to carry than the 2.0 stippling against the skin. I have springs in the Glock trigger and Ameriglo sights. Against the skin The M&P 1.0 feels better than the 2.0. Either feels better in the hand and is easier to learn to shoot than the Glock... but it's what you like. Honestly it's like Po said. "The difference is you." Train.
Been on M&P train for a while now... Glocks are solid, but Smith and Wesson "knocked it out the park", as coch said. My most accurate pistol is the M&P 2.0 40 5"... Followed very closely by the S&W Pro Series 5".
Own a Glock 30 gen4 and a M&P 2.0 10mm. Love them both, each has it's perks. Both had average factory triggers and were R2. Now, if I have to sell one due to bad times. Without hesitation, I would sell the S&W. Every person is different, there is no better gun expert the 1911😂 but seriously, just another opinion.
I concur. The one thing that I like about a Glock over my M&P is that you can collapse the trigger on an empty chamber and it stays back. When I pick up my Glock from the dresser, I instantly know if there is no round in the chamber by the feel. My extended trigger finger naturally brushes the trigger and the rear-ward position tells me it is unloaded instantly in the dark. If the trigger is forward, it is loaded (though I press check to verify). The M&P trigger is always forward. It is a simple little thing, but I like that about the Glock. I like the ergos, sights, texture, and looks of the M&P. Both are equally accurate and reliable for me.
I carry a Glock 19. I have since 2014. Glock ergonomics suck in my opinion. I know everyone says ergonomics don’t matter because your grip should be good after training. But, it’s a lot easier to shoot M&P’s consistently in my opinion. I love both but if I had to pick just one I think it would be the M&P.
I do some pistol instruction in my state. Not nearly as much as most others have, but a good number at this point. The only time I’ve found people to take issue with the Glock grip angle are small women and men; only after telling them about the Glock grip angle
I'm a Glock fanboy. My son prefers the M&Ps. We've competed and practiced with them. Many rounds through both. This comparison is a win win situation. Pick the one you shoot the best, and enjoy a great pistol. Ironically we've both only had 1 failure to eject in our pistols over the last year.
As an owner of both, I prefer the grip on the M&P and the modularity of the Glock. That's changing, though, as more and more companies are putting out products for the M&P
Thanks for the comparison. Blocks failure to update & innovate at shootets' expense really loses favor, ibspite of their plodding reliability. My preference is S&¥, Walter., Berets, FN over most Flock products.
It's 0250hrs. I should be sleeping, but here I am. I carry both. The S&W has never failed me, and neither has Glock. I've got more holsters for Glocks and carry them more, and I shoot the Smith better. I'm happy with either one.

M&P 2.0 3.6” is my jam. Not sure why it is not talked about more.
@@kebotrans same here brother! Unfortunately mine came with the old trigger, but I've grown used to it.
@@joshfriend1396 Try that Apex kit.
@@kebotrans
Love my 2.0 with 3.6. Have an SRO optic on it and it’s become my favorite gun.
Brought my glock 19 last month damn I love ❤️ that thing better than my wife
Lol
@@senturion417 Damn☠️☠️🤣
Glock 19 is my first love too
We in this wonderful place where you can basically just just which gun you like the looks of from whichever big manufacturer you want.
Both these guns are great and i would run either one. For my money i would prob choose the m&p because i could probably find it a bit cheaper and not have to upgrade sights as quick.
Both great, as is walther pdp, or cz p10.
Still taking my p07 over either of these 😎
I really appreciate the zero nonsense content on this channel. Thanks, Coch.
Excellent comparison
I love Glock grips. I used to carry Sig 228's,229's and 226's. I switched to Glock and prefer them. I do have a couple M&P's that I really like though.
I actually have both of these guns except my Glock is a Gen 3. Both are great guns.
Choices are great. I do prefer the S&W for the same reason, the grip and new trigger. Golden combo.
I own the Glock 23 and the M&P 2.0 full size. Very different guns but I love them both.
Both good choices but I just trust the Glock more under adverse
Conditions.
M&p 2.0, g17 and p320 all carried at work and the m&p 2.0 is by far my favorite. Them with the junk stock trigger.
i like the grip on my M&P. i have on older one that i put a apex trigger in and its my favorite pistol. i recently got a glock 19M gen 5 mos that i put a holosun on and i really like it now.
I carry a Glock 43x mos with night fusion sights and a train with purpose trigger shoe. My next pistol is an m&p 2.0 optics ready for dedicated home defense and shtf pistol
You really need them to send you out the new 10mm M&P. You will love it.
M& P 40 was my first . Like my G34 9 too.
Carry Spfld XD 9vor 45 just sweet in jean pocket . Used to compete weekly . All about whats in your hand and the brain realizing what s going on overall. Do appreciate 191q grip angle overall
He is telling the truth. I experienced this and had to replace both sights. I've got about 1000 rounds though my G43 sight went flying down range.😅
Dude…no P226 is going to beat the Glock or this M&P. There are plenty accounts of Glocks having several hundred thousand rounds through them. The Glock will out perform the P226 all day long, and they’re a lot less expensive and much easier to maintain. Otherwise, fantastic review.
the 2.0s have definitely changed the market up. Love the platform now
The 2.0's perfected what was already a decent pistol. S&W hit it out the park with the 2.0's!
Love my M&P 2.0c and shield plus pc.
I have both and the M&P fits my hands better. I do well with the hinged trigger on the 5" Pro Series. The flat trigger is awesome too.
Coch is the man. Love his content .
Thanks for sharing Coach
Another great video Coach!
Have a G19 and the M&P Compact. Both are sweet shooting guns. I'd choose the M&P every day.
But I really prefer the CZ 75 platform or the Sig Pro Series
G19 all day
Good review. Appreciate it.
I have them both i carry the glock appendix then i carry my m&p at 4 oclock just depending how im feeling decides which i carry. Enjoy them both.
I Ike both guns. I can shoot both well. I can just pickup the SW take my grip and fire and all is well, with the Glock, I always feel like I’m making adjustments to get my grip secure. But maybe that’s just me, I like both a lot.
I want a 2.0 I have a 19 gen 5 and I agree you got to do stuff to them .
Can’t go wrong with either. S&W is an outstanding pistol. I actually love both.
I’m in the same boat the grip angle sucks for me on the Glock but I still own them because they don’t fail
Thank you for sharing this information 😃🙏
I have both, the G19 is probably the most common pistol in circulation…
It’s too bad the stock trigger and grip angle are trash. The M&P was decent out of the box, and great with an Apex flatty.
I started with a G23 in 2000. I have used Glock, Sig, and S&W. In the past couple years I’ve gone back to Glock. All the other guns are great, I just prefer the Glock platform for some reason.
Truth is most modern handguns are reliable and accurate.
It's just the individual shooters preference.
There isn't much of a best.
Just best for you.
Both platforms are great. The Gen5 Glock has more foolproof reloading due to the flared mag port. The M&P has a nicer grip texture and shape. Either gun will save your hide or kick ass in competition.
Well, I might have to try a 2.0 ..I have a 4.25 performance center gen 1, it's alright. Good review BTW...
I have the 5" 2.0 as well, shoots like a lazer!
Ironically we've both only had 1 failure to eject in our pistols over the last year.
the S&W lines are better in every way except the aftermarket support. for instance PCCs usually take Glock mags, that extends their market
I like having the thumb safety on my M&Ps solely as a recoil shelf for my thumb.
"Smell the cabbage." People younger than 35 may not catch that reference. Yeah, baby, yeah! 😆
What is it referring to? Unfortunately I was born in the 2000s and don’t get many of these cool references.
I’ve been shooting Glocks for over 30 years but I’ve always wanted a S&W 2.0. I’d have to check if those Smiths are available for sale in CA.
I haven't shot a Glock in a long time probably G3. For me they just didn't work for my hand size. S&W just works better.
I'm now of the opinion dot guns should definitely have tall front sights an ur choice on the rear for me a mix of stock an trijicon works great
As an owner of both, I prefer the grip on the M&P and the modularity of the Glock. That's changing, though, as more and more companies are putting out products for the M&P
Good advice!
Thanks for the comparison. Blocks failure to update & innovate at shootets' expense really loses favor, ibspite of their plodding reliability. My preference is S&¥, Walter., Berets, FN over most Flock products.
Thank you sir
Train with what you got!! If you're lucky enough to have choices! Pick one and train! Simple!
It's 0250hrs. I should be sleeping, but here I am. I carry both. The S&W has never failed me, and neither has Glock. I've got more holsters for Glocks and carry them more, and I shoot the Smith better. I'm happy with either one.
I had Glock and Smith and Wesson. Sold the Glock and bought another M&P 2.0. Wife shot the ones I had and ended up having to buy her a M&P as well.
