Unclogging 2 Badly Blocked Large Culverts After The Spring Thaw

  • I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
    I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
    Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

    I hope the local community, and the county/city/state road department are grateful for all that you have done. The damage you have prevented with all the culverts you have cleared, has probably saved who knows how much in tax dollars. Keep up the good work!

      @StuffBenLikes I mean, not really. I'm talking more culvert sizing, erosion, culvert construction and layout, even reading roadways as to why certain things are happening to them. Not just it flows downhill.

    I'm fascinated. When I was a kid, I used to do this kind of stuff on a much smaller scale when I was out walking with my parents. And now - 55 years on - you are making videos on unblocking culverts and flowing streams. I salute you! BTW, I still sometimes get the urge to unblock clogged streams (and if nobody s looking, I might do that), but the scale is in no way like your work, and I'd never risk going to the big stuff.
    Thank you!

    I think you could use a broom/scrubber for such tasks as well as unclogging storm drains. It would be much easier to brush over grates with the flexible bristles compared to the metal prongs of a rake.

  • @Impassion
    @Impassion ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I wonder if carrying a broomy, brush type of thing could help with these grates. I'm sure the tines of the rake get snagged up in the grate mesh constantly. Maybe something more brush-like could just agitate the leaves through more easily?

    I'm in the UK where they are slowly re-introducing beavers to the country. A local sea-life park is breeding them for my area, and then they are being released at the other end of my county. There are a couple of others around the country. I'm interested to see what will happen.
    We very rarely get snow in my area. I think the last time was about a decade ago. (I'm in the most southerly county, Cornwall for those who know the UK.)

    • @brianthesnail3815
      @brianthesnail3815 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am in the UK as well and have seen what beavers did in Argentina when introduced. They destroyed and flooded large areas of forest. They were universally regarded as a pest by the Argentinian people we spoke to. The UK is a very densely populated country with no very large areas of lowland forest that can support beaver populations without having a significant effect on farmland and housing.

    I've mentioned it before in the context of street drains rather than culverts, but I wonder how well a brush/broom with metal bristles would work here. Not plastic or natural bristles, metal. They might shred a lot of the leaves, grass, etc. and allow them to pass through. If it is worth carrying the extra tool, I don't know.
