he was above average in ramleela, good in bajirao mastani and superb in padmaavat. But he gets more credit shahid was better than ranveer in padmaavat and he should not have got any award for bajirao and gully boy salman should have won that in 2015 and hrithik or shahid in 2019 but ranveer got paid award.

Love story comes out of Marathi literature and way different than the actual history. History definitely shows us that Bajirao took some efforts to support Mastani out of love or his duty, whatever may be the reason. But lovestory is based on kalpanik bhakadkatha to fool the audience.
1- Mastani was Bajirao's wife -
There is no evidance of their marriage at least in Marathi documentation. If she was married to him in Rajput tradition, such marriage was never accepted in Marathi samaj. Banirao never dared to establish her as his wife anywhere bcz he knew that she was unacceptable here. Bajirao never took her to any military expedition, never to Satara, even did not give her jagir. ( Mastani got only income- mahsul of 2 villages) So historic Bajirao himself was confused about her status like how to keep her.
The foremost proof is Shahu maharaj's letter in which he called Mastani a mistress. At least till Bajirao's time, Mastani was his mistress only.
2- Mastani was tortured and there was threat to her life-
This is another blatant lie from fiction. Bajirao was a busy man and travelled frequently for military expeditions. How she survived all these years? If anyone tried to kill her, why the conspirator's name never appeared in history. Fiction never gives the name of the culprit so this is wild imagination. Second thing, if Bajirao was so much afraid of her safety, why he never wrote a single letter to her asking for her wellbeing? On the other hand, he wrote regularly to his wife from almost every military expedition.
3- Kashi was neglected by her husband after Mastani's arrival-
Mastani came to Pune around 1731 ( exact records are not available but most probably she was sent after Chhatrasal's death in 1731) Now from 1731-35, Kashi got pregnant thrice. A still born child in 1731 but after that Raghav in 1733 and Janardan in 1735. Samsher was born in 1734. But still fiction says- Kashi was neglected. In 1736, when Bajirao travelled to Rajputana, he took Kashi only with him. It is Kashi who always accompanied him to Satara. There are letters exchanged between husband and wife regularly ( in contrast to no letter written to Mastani) but still according to fiction, Kashi was neglected. In fact, Kashi was the only support of her husband in Mastani's case. Bajirao wanted emotional support from his family to keep Mastani as she was his political responsibility and he got that only from his wife. In my opinion, Kashi perfectly knew what was Bajirao's stand about Mastani. The fact that she took care of Samsher and her determination to hand over jagir of Banda to Samsher before her death, actually indicates the strong bond she had with her husband. But fiction makes its own imaginary tales.
4- Brahmins of Pune did not allow Samsher to become Hindu-
This is another fraud in fiction that Bajirao wanted to carryout upanayan of Samsher. Absolutely no evidance for this in history. Bajirao perfectly knew that Samsher could not become Hindu that is why he named him Samsher. ( Mastani named the child Krishnasinh). Bajirao did not give his legacy to Samsher. Samsher was given Banda as jagir, a province of Bundelkhand, nothing from Bajirao's jagirs in Maharashtra, nothing even from Maratha kingdom. But people get mesmerised by the dialogue ' chala mohor lava' Are mohor kispar lagai wo to dekho.
In 18 th century, hindu muslim marriage was not possible, there was no concept of conversions either. People forget- why Mastani was named Mastani in Bundelkhand if her father was Hindu? Why she was not given a Hindu name? Why any Rajput did not marry her? Why she remained kuwari for so long?
The reason was- you must be born of Hindu parents to become a Hindu.
All these are bhakadkatha made by fiction to make it lovestory and people are fooled years after years.
Bajitao has not done any sacrifice for Mastani. He could give only monetary benefits to her, nothing else. Ghar provide karna Peshwake liye badi bat nahi thi. Bajirao got Zansi, Kalpi, Banda and Sagar provinces of Bundelkhand and also gold worth 5 lakh rupees from Chhatrasal but ofcourse that was price of the freedom that Bundelkhand got bcz of Bajirao. But still 5 lakh rs. ke badle 1-2 ghar banana badi bat nahi hai.( Cost of construction of Shanivarwada in 1730 was about 17500 rs. so you can compare now.)
Bajirao agar use samman de sakte to badi bat hoti par Bajirao khud confused hai throughout ke how to keep her.
Bajirao had all the powers in his hand. If he had wished, he could have separated himself along with Kashi and Mastani from his family but he could never take decision of his life.
So for me, Bajirao can not be called a lover.

Depiction in the film is totally wrong. Historic Bajirao never gave status of Kashi to Mastani. He never took her anywhere officially, he never gave his legacy to her child ( Remember Samsher was given Banda, a part of Bundelkhand and nothing from Maratha empire), he never wrote letters to Mastani but many letters written to Kashi, are available. He never took Mastani to any military expedition either but references of Kashi going with him are available.
Mastani was a part of political protocol and hence his responsibility. But bcz of her religion, she could not be married to him officially. That led to social stigma bcz he was a brahmin. The little efforts he took to keep her were blown out of proportion by Marathi fiction. This is how, it became a lovestory.
Historic Bajirao actually left both Kashi and Mastani at Pune and went away only to follow his political duty.
So please dont form the impression of Bajirao by watching what is shown in the movie.

There was cast. Sivaji elected the chitpawan brahmin Balaji Vishwanath, who no doubt was a brilliant minister. But after him, only chitpawan brahmins were preferred and they were the peshwas. Slowly, the desendants of Sivaji and Maratha became weak, and all the power went to Peshwas.
