Though this fourteenth-century mystic and Doctor of the Church never studied theology, and in fact never formally learned how to read or write, her life constitutes a powerful challenge to the flattened-out secularism of our time.

I only recently found out that her Feast day falls on my birthday and her words gave me temporary comfort: "Start being brave about everything. Drive out darkness and spread light. My great-grandma has Alzheimer's and is on her deathbed. She married a war hero, converted to Catholicism, and had tons of kids. I and many others would appreciate prayers for her and for our family. It looks like they're going to pull the plug today. She'll be up there though. She loves Jesus and He loves her. I'll be praying for you all. You're great Bishop Barron. I appreciate you a lot. You've taught me a lot of things about Catholicism. You even wrote me a personal note in one of your Bibles before. You probably don't remember but just know that I'm thankful for it.

Our trip to Siena was a critical point in my deeper conversion. The holiness of that town with St. Dominic and St Catherine just struck and put me on a path of intellectual discovery which eventually led me to a more spiritual conversion. Everyone needs to encounter the saints whenever they can. When you understand their level of devotion, you can’t help but start to seek it yourself.

By now, I should not be amazed by anything bishop Barron does in his teachings, but once again, I am blown away. This one video on the life of a beautiful saint summarizes the meaning of the christian life in such a profound way.

Amazing story. I heard this past Sunday's homily about St Catherine, about how she was hungry for Jesus in the Eucharist, where half of the host disappeared after the concresation. Sadly, 70% of Catholics do not believe in the real presence of the Eucharist. Having had a profound conversion experience 16 years ago where God intervened through our Blessed Mother to save my marriage, I have grown with increasing love for the Eucharist. I doubled down on my Mass attendance in person during the pandemic. During the first three months of lockdown, I did feel the same hunger for Jesus in the Eucharist.

Glad your community kept churches open. That still hurts my heart thinking of that time when so many needed the mass to stay strong and that for months we were denied mass and going to communion.
@@colleenwebster8762 Sad to know many departed souls were not able to receive any of the sacraments during that time. Not only Church's hierarchy permit the closure but also promoted the tainted vaccine. We can now see a spiritual battle between the traditional/conservative versus modernist/progressive Catholics that we never have seen before. The message of Akita has come to fruition, "Cardinals opposing other cardinals and bishops against other bishops." Pray for the conversion of hearts.

Thank you, Bishop Barron! This talk really means a lot to me, bringing me back to the year 2013, a friend invited me to have watched the vivid performance drama of Saint Catherine.
It was talking about her extraordinary love and faith to our Lord Jesus Christ when she was restricted at home for 3 years by her parents… I was deeply heart-touched with tearing all over on my face while watching it, since by then, I was exactly getting through the most challenging three years of my Catholic faith journey after my Baptism in 2011. That drama of Saint’s vivid life story brought me a lot of strength to trust in Jesus and deepened my faith to our God a lot! What a life of our faith to Jesus!

My wonder at the way Bishop Barron brings the most amazing Saints and Teachers of the church to life and to our appreciation of their importance in "following" their example was left wanting a little in this documentary. It may be that St Catherine of Siena was so supernatural that a mere mortal like myself found it hard to absorb the lessons of her life and teaching. I may gain more from playing the video back a few times. I was absolutely bowled over by Bishop Barron's video on St Augustine a little while back as well as that on St Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower) some time back, but today I am a bit confused. All the same, my thanks to Bishop Barron and those involved in bringing us these precious offerings. Peace be with you.

I loved this! I chose St. Catherine of Siena for my confirmation name and feel a close connection to her. One thing though... at 48:06 as we see the faithful receive the Eucharist while Bishop Barron talks about "oneness with God" I was disappointed in seeing them receive it in the hand... more reverence is needed! Kneeling and on the tongue is how all the saints including St. Catherine would have received it. I'm fortunate my Church has the communion rail... everyone kneels at all masses. Treasure the privilege while you can - who knows when it will be taken away again.✝🙏

St Catherine of Siena's zeal and courage are only matched by her ability to endure and suffer and never give up hope. If I may, a quote from Raymond of Capua, Catherine’s Confessor, Biographer, and Master of the Order:
The Blessed Catherine, perceiving her last hour approached, summoned around her, her followers and such as the Lord had made members of her household (a large and diverse group that lot was, ed.); . . . The first and fundamental obligation that she laid down was this: He who give himself to God, if he desires to possess Him in return must divest his heart from all sensible love; not only towards persons, but to creatures, in order to tend to God, his creator, in entire simplicity and sincerity of soul; for, said she, the heart cannot give itself unreservedly to God if it be not liberated, disentangled and disenfranchised from every bond.
