I went through this very same thing on my 19 RT (never been in the rain). Drove the front off as you described, once on the bench, I used the air hammer to drive the shaft (rear) a little farther on and then sprayed it for several days before driving it off. I repainted the shaft and used the Honda splin lube before reassembling it. What a pain!
Built in obsolescence. I have an old Sony lcd that still works. It’s for the kids, of whom only one uses it ever. Had an old Magnavox that was even older that I replaced last year with a 55” curved Samsung. What a difference. I like tubi tv. Lots of old stuff. We like Columbo too. They have mccloud as well.
The only thing worse than the wrong tv mount is the yahoo who assigned 3/10’s of an hour on that BMW. Needless to say he/she would not be a happy camper today if I had my way. The NERVE of some people. Stay safe and remain calm cause I have let go of enough anger for the both of us.😤
Yup XT60. They can sure be a bugger to pull apart sometimes. Even worse is the XT90s that I use on my Top Flite 24v electric starter, I use it with a huge lipo.
It's a 2017. It was in for the drain install and shaft inspection, but failed the test. Bike is so clean we were questioning the test, but ultimately it was correct and needed to be replaced... Thanks!!
Happy (late) Anniversary. What a day you had.!! Hope the trailer hitch gets your mind away from motorcycles., and pressure washers. A ride and seeing a train, the roosters, and the world's largest egg is my remedy to a major headache. Hang tough and take a break. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
So was this like a service bulletin and/or warranty issue? Or was it being tested because of the water not draining issue and then had to be tested? Thanks and Happy belated Anniversary!!🤙
Had to deal with the same issue on my 2007 R1200GSA. 75'000 miles and the drive shaft failed. Painful. 2000$ out of my own pocket. NO help from BMW even though they have a recall free repair notice out on the the GS. But for some weird reason it only covers 5 models.???
To me it's clear the boot design is flawed, and if the new boots aren't upgraded, BMW are not dealing with water ingress issues . My GS ,when reaching 60,000 klm [soon] will have a new driveshaft fitted . My Dealer has been aware of the issue for a long time ,and inspects and greases all shaft splines before they offer bikes for resale .
I loved my job as train driver. Worried I would miss it when I retired. But I haven't. Even this time of year there is usually one day at least where its rideable. And I'm available to take advantage. 👍 Bet you will love retirement. Bikes will be wondering what happened 😁👍
Shawn, I mentioned on another video my old R60 did not have a issues as the shaft was submerged in oil, err um 🤨. Just got a call from my BMW Dealer to tell me my 2019 GSA has had to have the drive shaft replaced. Never been in water, never jet washed it co’mon BMW, what is going on here. BTW, it’s May 2023. Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.
It's wild, some look so beat-down you'd think it would never pass the test, then some that look as though they've spent time in a bubble they're so clean that fail..? However, the fail rate is very low out of the hundreds we've tested so far... With the vent and drain installed during the procedure, it should never happen again. 👌 Thanks for watching and commenting Joe!! 👍👊

Wow that was a a lot of work to replace a drive shaft…you deserve a very relaxing and chill weekend. Hope you guys have a awesome weekend. 👍
Thanks 👍
That driveshaft replacement doesn’t look easy. Glad you all got a new TV, they make a nice anniversary present. Good stuff Smoak’s!
Thanks Gus!! 👍

🎶S & K, happy anniversary you two love birds🎶❤️😇
What a mess. What year is that GSA, and did it have the swing arm drain mod installed from the factory or as part of the update?

That little hitch is cute! 👍🏻😉
The red on that thing looks good! Happy Anniversary 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you Tango!! 👊
You'd think BMW could come up with a coating like on pistons that would put it out of warranty peiod.

So what do you do about the rear end rust? Isn’t that now compromised due to the rust even if it’s cleaned up?
There is a snap ring that holds the shaft to the output shaft. Did you not know that?
Oh yeah... Being dry, and starting to rust made it fun to deal with. Lol It's properly lubed now.
Thanks Ernest!!

Yes, this was part of a safety recall. Tester diagnosed it correctly, so the drive shaft was replaced.
Thanks!!
@@TheSmoaksVlogs and that’s why you’re awesome!!😃
My RT is a 2009 and the shaft/FD doesn’t look like that and I’ll ride in the rain. Pressure washing…

Damn, that was a lot of work. Makes you wonder if there really worth or is just bad care and not following the rules, "No pressure blasters".
Happy anniversary 🎈🥳
Thank you so much 😀

As an after thought Shawn, my bike is kept in a ‘Bike Bubble’ in an air conditioned garage - go figure🤨🥴
Sure wish they would have to replace mine 45 years ago R75 had to haul it home 600 miles brought a Honda never looked back
Happy belated Anniversary
Thank you so much 😀
Liked it 😍😄👍🇧🇷
😎🖐
😎🏍💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦 expensive repairs on bmw it seems
It sure is. Thankfully BMW is covering it as part of this recall campaign...
Thanks!!
