As I see it, Rose truly believes that making the world a better place is his responsibility and he does not mind sacrificing himself to ensure a brighter future. Solving a problem that won't even be a thing for a millenium does sound incredibly weird, but I believe the main reason why Rose wants it solved right here, right now is Leon. The greatest pokemon trainer the galar region has ever known - there is no guarantee that people of the future would have someone strong enough to defeat Eternatus, and while I really do not like the fact they shoved it before the final match from the gameplay perspective, it makes sense from the story one. Leon had to face Eternatus before fighting the greatest challenger, because should he somehow lose, he'd lose the spirit, and player character - even if they turn out stronger than Leon somehow - are an unknown, there is no telling what they would do with the power of Eternatus. But Leon is a super hero, basically tge Allmight of Pokemon, all Rose needed to do is tell Leon that he is in danger, and wait. And then when Etarnatus is sucessfully tamed, and it turns out that Leon got hurt (because hop and player are idiots who thought that standing in front of a rampaging legendary pokemon is a good idea) - Rose willing turned himself over - his job is done
You can learn a lot about Rose by looking at the people around him: Oleana and Bede. He groomed them to be fanatics and they live to proove themselves to him. I think that he has a destructive cult of personality around him. He is charismatic and dangerous.
rose got angry when bede did something which would help rose's own end goal. rose did not manipulate bede or oleana. he's a good guy who did good things for these people in need and he's easy to look up to. he actively did NOT want bede to work for his goals.
He does care about Galar, but all the "qualities" that led him where he is lead to his downfall. He has a pretty massive ego. And he convinced himself that he is the only one who can save the region, who knows what is good for it. And since no one is really here to stop him, to tell him when he is wrong, he ends up lost in his own mind. There are many great people in the real world that are similar after all.
I caught on to him being "evil" fairly early on, but I love that the new anime portrays him as much more than that, a figure with compassion for a sick boy who only wants to see a pokemon battle. I really like him in episode 1 ^-^
I really didnt get any bad guy vibes off him. Honestly game freak used him as a scapegoat to get the climax to happen because they forgot to/didnt have time to finish the story. You’re telling me you REALLY have to stop an energy crisis years in the future right now instead of literally tomorrow?
I’m actually learning about the industrial revolution at school, and textile factories in Britain were actually more important than coal mining in terms of economy which is probably why cottonee and whimscott are so abundant in Galar
at first i thought when chairman rose envited you to dinner with sonia thought he was trying to get smart and strong trainers on his side so when he tried to bring the second darkest day the trainers turned into marco cosmo workers
This is going to be an extremely long comment but: I honestly think that his story happened a bit different. Specially considering his plan along with his background since this plan was actually highly tied to the legend about the darkest day. He wasn´t using Eternatus to give energy to Galar, he just found out about Dynamax thanks to Professor Magnolia´s research (that included how to find objects that caused the dinamax phenomenon, like the wishing starts and the dens where the dinamax phenomenon happens) and then being the brilliant guy that he was despite his humble origins and also a huge fan of the pokemon battles he came up with the idea of implementing the dynamax phenomenon into the pokemon battles using the wishing starts (the "source" of such energy) by creating the dynamax bands with Oleana´s help. This made the pokemon battles incredibly popular in the Galar region and with the profit he gained from this invention he and Oleana got extremely rich. Then, with all that money, Rose obtained the galar mine where he used to work and created his entire company to give energy to the whole region with the wishing starts that he now was able to obtain from there as the key resource (and he also made many other companies and buildings after that like the Rose Tower). His entire business and energy supply came from the wishing starts, not from Eternatus itself. Thanks to this, the galar region grew prosperous and he became really respected and influential in Galar. However, the entire region development and lifestyle became completely dependent of this new source of energy and this was all literally because of him. However, he later on realized (thanks to the tapestries from the museum that he helped to build) that the darkest day was actually a pokemon that, after being defeated by "the hero", scattered many parts of itself thorough the entire region. Because of this he found out that the wishing stars, the resource he had being using to provide the Galar region with energy all this time, were actually parts of eternatus imbued with his power and that Eternatus was the actual source of the dinamax energy). You need to remember that even after thousands of years, the wishing stars keep falling from the sky even in current days. And because of this, he always though that the dynamax energy was a resource that never was going to run out. After he realized the real origin of the dynamax energy, and since this happened 3000 years ago, he estimated that the wishing starts and the dinamax energy in general obviously wasn´t going to last forever. He needed to replicate the events that caused the existence of the wishing stars and the dens in the first place to ensure the future of Galar (a region that was now completely dependent of this energy) and to do this he needed two things: to bring Eternatus (the pokemon that after being defeated scattered his energy through the region) back to life and "a hero" able to defeat Eternatus (aka, Leon, the strongest trainer of the entire region). He was able to do research to find the first one and along with Oleana´s help he used Macrocosmos (and Bede) to gather enough wishing starts to wake him up. However, he struggled with the second one, the hero. It´s mentioned during Rose´s conversation with Leon at Rose tower that he actually tried to convince him to help with his plan several times in the past. However, Leon always kept postponing the whole thing because he knew that it was dangerous (despite being confident of being able to defeat it) and also because he was more interested in his role as a champion and didn´t saw the need to act right now because the energy wasn´t running out right know (this is a similar situation and mentality to fossil fuel running out but almost no one not caring because it isn´t running out now, despite the fact that it´s a resource that is highly used in society in current times). After so many failed attemps to get Leon´s help and having Eternatus finally ready to wake up to face Leon, he made sure to create a situation to get Leon´s cooperation no matter what (awakening Eternatus during the final battle of the league). But Rose´s plan had a major flaw, and this was that the "hero" that defeated Eternatus were actually two legendary pokemon (Zacian and Zamazenta),not a person and he didn´t knew that fact since that lost part of Galar history was just recently discovered by Sonia (By the way, the lost history of Galar may be based/may be a reference to how stories like the one about King Arthur that, just like "the hero of the galar region", could´ve actually been stories about the great prowess of many different kings through history that got mixed up with the past of the centuries to the point where all those prowess were attributed to a single king that may or may´ve not existed.That being the legend of King Arthur instead of all of them (and "the hero" instead of Zacian and Zamazenta in Galar.). Sonia found the fifth tapestry and thanks to this the player and hop were able to find the items needed to wake up the only ones that could actually defeat Eternatus. They defeated them (scattering his energy once again in the process by the way) and saving the Galar region. This means, that Sonia, as the pokemon professor, not only found out the real history of Galar but also two new legendary pokemon unknown until that time. Chairman Rose based his plan on his knowledge of legend itself. That´s why he was so sure about the fact that Leon will be able to defeat him. It´s was huge plot point the fact that Sonia discovered the real story behind the legend (that were Zacian and Zamazenta, two unknown legendary pokemon the ones that actually defeated Eternatus) which was the only real flaw in Rose´s plan. But that´s because literally no one knew the real history of Galar up until that point. He based his plan on his knowledge of legend itself. That´s why he was so sure about the fact that Leon will be able to defeat him and needed him to participate no matter what.
Just a question. If them using the wishing stars as energy uses up the stars in some way, meaning they need more stars to continue powering the region, how would Eternatus waking up and scattering the stars work again? If there are a finite amount of stars, eventually even then they would run out and so would Eternatus? Unless you mean that Eternatus can power up used wishing stars with a limitless amount of energy contained within him?
I think the place in Twilight Wings is a hospital, not an orphanage. The description for the episode on the Pokemon TH-cam page says he is a hospital-bound boy. He could also be an orphan I guess though. But yeah, I can see Rose being related to that man/having a rough relationship with his father.
Great theory also some other things I would like to know is if bede is a orphan because he's family died or because they left him ether way he definitely has separation anxiety. Also want to know what do the four flags repersent and since Sonia wears hearts and Leon wears diamonds who are the other two that wears clubs or spades.

Given that he seems to have a father, I'd guess that many of the miners he grew up around are orphans, so that's why he has a heart for them, maybe that's where/why he met Oliana and why she's so dedicated to him She doesn't seem to be the type for the manual labor of the miners, and he saw that and recruited her for that reason
Ever since the announcement of the dlc and we saw this guy I always thought he was definitely related to Rose, but not as a father he just doesn't really look old enough to be his father I always saw him as his brother or maybe a cousin but someone closer in age

To me, Rose seems like Lysander lite and the anime did a wonderful job showing Lysander's POV-why he was doing what he was doing. But Ash made several good points as well-you can't take someone else's destiny from them; everyone has to work together to make the future a better place. Leon seemed to have this mindset if his speech after the match is anything to go by. So I hope that the anime does a good job showcasing that morally gray area of Rose.
While this theory is pretty cool and I do see what you mean, I personally like the theory of the chairman and this unnamed dude being brothers, with the unnamed guy being raihans father (if we're going an extram mile here). They both just feel too same age-y to me to see them as father and son.

They won't. You can access the DLC areas as soon as the Wild Area is unlocked so they need to have their own self-contained stories separate from the main story since you can go there at any time.
I totally feel like the chairman is not as villainous as he is too impatient for his own good. It’s first foreshadowed when Oleanna tells you that he hates waiting while in Hulbury, and he wants to summon an extremely dangerous, one-of-a-kind being to solve a energy crisis that will only crop up in 1000 years. By then, people will be traveling the galaxy, terraforming planets, and would definitely be able to solve that crisis. And he won’t even wait a single day to unleash a world-ending space monster, hoping to harness it for good. And because SwSh has no real villains, I know that the Macro Cosmos siege could’ve been avoided, and if so, Eternatus probably could’ve been contained. It was one of the humorous highlights of the game, happening not because of known criminal activities or potential apocalypses, but because Mr. No-Sense-Of-Direction Leon himself was late for dinner. And by his standards. There’s also the brilliant pun of a literal and metaphorical elevator pitch. With Pokémon Teamwork, as the main conflict is Riku’s desire to usurp her mother Daiyamondo as Champion of Miedaa, I am probably going to have antagonists, but not villains. Just like SwSh.
I love it when they expand upon characters, so that as you said, they don't just feel one dimensional, that they feel complex like real people who aren't just defined by one or two traits
Love it. Rose is a character with good intentions paved with bad methods. I wished to see more by end game, but hopefully dlc really will reveal more about his character. Maybe we might even see a redemption ark??
Right away, Chairman Rose reminded me of another character in a completely different franchise: President Snow of "The Hunger Games". Reason: The name "Rose": President Snow loved white Roses in particular. #2: the spectacle as a distraction: Rose used the gym challenge as a spectacle to distract the public from his real plan. President Snow used the "Hunger Games" as a spectacle to distract people from the fact that they were basically slaves to the capital and "keep the districts in line" and keep them distracted overall. 3: both were extremely wealthy, powerful, feared, revered and respected. 4. Both built powerful empires. 5. Both got beaten/taken down by a teenager ;)
Could it be possible that Eternatus was used to power the Ancient Weapon from X and Y 300 years ago? Rose would fined out about it through legend and then start his hunt for the power sours.
I like the theory. the backstory works well and makes sense. Though I'm not convinced that the guy in the dlc is Rose's dad, I do like the idea. Most people think hes Raihan's dad/mentor since mustard from the other dlc is Leon's. I hope we do get more story on Rose to flesh him out, he didn't seem to be pure evil just misguided so it would be good to see how he got that way. I'm kind of hoping we have to work with him hannibal lecter style to learn more about the raid dens and the energy while we explore them.
The design is very similar. If not father and son, I could see them being brothers, they look similar in age. Two orphaned brothers, both resolved to move forward and make the best of their lives, but going about it in different ways.
I'm kinda gutted we know we'll be using the same save data. I was really hoping that the guy from the Crown Tundra would be Rose before the games took place as he was discovering the dens (darker skin could have been explained by the coal dust from the mines or something similar). Like the theory that it may be a relative of his though.
In the main game, he tells the player that he got the tech to detect dynamax spots and wishing pieces from Professor Magnolia. he probably took that and went around monopolizing the region. It makes sense that his first operation was the power plant by the mine but to have amassed a conglomerate like Macro, he def abused that technology.
Wait, if you look at the picture of the miner and chairman Rose side by side they sort of look the same so my theory is that it is chairman Rose after you defeat him he goes broke and goes back to the mine in the crown tundra
Anyone ever noticed that Bede's hair resembles that of the Crown Tundra Legendary? It's reminiscent of the Galar Descendent Twins and how their hair is a Sword and Shield, respectfully. Maybe they're related...
Makes more sense if the DLC Guy is Rose’s brother. The two worked together to find Eternatus, but Rose’s ambitions got the better of him and he pushed his brother away causing the schism between the two.
Finally somebody else out here theorizing about this man lol i personally have so much to say about him, but ill leave it at this point about the orphans. Rose's main issue in the game is his concern and care for the future. And children in media tend to be shorthand for the future. Kabu even mentions this. And Opal's arc revolves around her passing the torch as well. I think these games as a whole have alot of anxiety surrounding the future, even down to the games themselves being the first main step towards the future of pokemon on consoles rather than handhelds. And i think that anxiety shines through the most in Rose. From his reaching out to children in diress (he also picked up oleana too), to his over ambitious goal of energy for a thousand years. Like an overprotective parent, it seemed like he just wanted to make sure things were okay. And like an overprotective parent, he was bound to cross some lines lol

I do agree with you but I’m pretty sure the thing from Twilight Wings is a children’s hospital due to the child’s bed and all the medical stuff in the background of the room and then hall way. But then that means he has a soft spot for children so it kinda helps

Like Toby said, the execution was terrible, but I feel like he wanted to tell Leon about his plan with Eternatus, but Leon didn't listen. I think he's a good person, but it's kind of like "doing wrong things for good reasons." I mean, he saw a problem he wanted to fix, but it ended up being a crazy dangerous plan
It wasn’t that he wanted to solve an energy crisis and it isn’t because of his success as a businessman. Rose was obsessing over solving a problem that several people point out won’t become a problem for around a thousand years. He is starting off a near-apocalyptic event that risked lives all over Galar to solve a problem that is well outside the limits of being an immediate problem.
Leon did listen though, he just wanted to postpone the plan until the day after the final’s match. And considering that the disaster wouldn’t be happening for 1000 years anyway, that doesn’t seem that unreasonable. It was Rose who rushed things and put everyone in danger because he was impatient and couldn’t wait a single day. He was well-intentioned for sure, but his execution was extremely poor.
It's because while he had good intentions with the energy he did more than just feed Eternatus power to wake it up. He helped hide the secret about the heroes (Zaician and Zamazenta). He also sent Bede on a quest for wishing stars in return for being endorsed but as soon as he didn't need him anymore he dumped and considered him a failure for not being strong enough. And if we think about it how did Bede get so many stars in the first place he would have to have stole some from innocent people. Rose took advantaged over a kid who just wanted to be champion and made him steal. He also knew that Eternatus was the reason that a apocalypse happened across the region years ago. His experiments that cause random Pokemon to dynamax could have had many casualties along with the fact it could have inspired Swordwart and Shieldbert
here something i thought of when the expansion pass comes out all the kanto starter will be in sword and shield base on charmander pokedex read like it native to galar so the really question is why were they exported to kanto and what region do the other starters come from
After listening to this video and the posible past of Rose, Makes me think of the big past of the region, starting with the two heroes/kings and his now descendants shielbert and sworward. What is up with that, it is strange royalty was only mentioned in the post game and I wish they would have given more info about the two kings and who they were. Was it stated them being brothers? Or nothing at all was given.
I’ve got a theory that the next Pokémon generation will be based on Italy. My only evidence is that a trainer on Route 8 says “Fantastico” after you beat her, which is Italian for “fantastic”
Honestly, you could have something about conflicting ideologies between family members if Rose's family came from outside the region. I mean, his signature pokemon is Copperajah; a pokemon based on the Indian elephant who came from outside of Galar. One of the other things that came from the Industrial revolution is a sot of Reverse colonisation where people from the colonial areas (India, the West Indies etc) came over to the UK to work. Many went to the East End to the point that many British people of the time saw that area of London as somewhat separate from the rest of the country... people were weird. It would be a little fitting considering in the last few decades, people rediscovered the history of Queen Victoria's Indian spiritual counselor who was a confidante of hers that taught her to speak Urdu considering she was the Empress of India at the time. Needless to say her kids didn't like him and threw him and his family out after Vic died.
When I first saw that character from Crown Tundra I thought it was post prison Chaiman Rose where he had an awakening and shaved off his head. Father makes much more sense.
I always just figured Chairman Rose was Indian which explained Copperaja who was a pokemon imported in obviously from the pokemon world's version of India. Even the dex entry says it was not originally from Galar.
So this is basically Rose's timeline: - Rose became a miner, discovered Dynamax shards and that they had energy or knew their existence before hand and seek to mine them, untill he had enough start up money to take a loan or investments to build his own mines to mine more Dynamax shards. - Rose wanted to know more about this new groundbreaking source of energy. So he got in touch with people who knew about it, Mangolia being the main source of knowledge on the matter. - He then invested to build gyms and the Rose tower in key spots where Dynamax energy was rampant, that he powered with Dynamax energy that was present in the gym spots, which then provided energy to near by towns and cities. The gyms capitalized on the Dynamax phenomenon in the gyms, providing exiting and entertaining battles for the viewers that made everyone get hyped and created a lot of profit. While at the same time, he organized an entire league to the region that he was in charge of, that took care of the things needed to organize the events. Rose would then use the profits to invest developing technology that would help him to find more Dynamax energy and shards, which were developed with the help of Mangolia. - Few profits later from the mines, gym battles and from selling energy to towns and cities, Rose became rich and part of the region's Elite. - But he knew there was more. He knew that this harmony of good source of energy would not last forever. Worrying about the future led him to discover the origin of Dynamax shards. He discovered Eternatus. Then the events of the game happen.
The first four generations all had identical gyms within the games, though admittedly it started as a limitation of Game Boy. But still, Galar was certainly not the first or only region to have identical gyms.
In the book Hard Times by Charles Dickens, (which takes place during England's industrial revolution and is all about class) there is a wealthy factory owner who claims he is an orphan that was raised by his abusive grandmother. He brags to everyone that he rose out of poverty all by himself with no help from anyone. Near the end of the book, we learn this is all a lie. His mother loved him and did everything she could to make sure he had a good education and support him. Once he became wealthy he became ashamed of his family and disowned them, preferring to lie to people about his past then tell the truth. Also, orphans and child labor were a huge issue during this time period, so it seems Pokemon may be taking this farther than we originally thought.
I may have missed some obvious info i havent finished the game yet 😝 but the only place you can dynamax are the gyms, rose tower and the raid dens. Could the spots the gyms were built on be dens and the pokemon that lived there were kicked out watership down style?
What if Rose has a soft spot for orphans because he himself was an orphan. He might have lost his mother while exploring a den. That could be when he stopped following his dear old Dad and decided to go his own way. Adventuring is not the safest of pursuits.

Then, with all that money, Rose obtained the galar mine where he used to work and created his entire company to give energy to the whole region with the wishing starts that he now was able to obtain from there as the key resource (and he also made many other companies and buildings after that like the Rose Tower). His entire business and energy supply came from the wishing starts, not from Eternatus itself. Thanks to this, the galar region grew prosperous and he became really respected and influential in Galar. However, the entire region development and lifestyle became completely dependent of this new source of energy and this was all literally because of him.
However, he later on realized (thanks to the tapestries from the museum that he helped to build) that the darkest day was actually a pokemon that, after being defeated by "the hero", scattered many parts of itself thorough the entire region. Because of this he found out that the wishing stars, the resource he had being using to provide the Galar region with energy all this time, were actually parts of eternatus imbued with his power and that Eternatus was the actual source of the dinamax energy). You need to remember that even after thousands of years, the wishing stars keep falling from the sky even in current days. And because of this, he always though that the dynamax energy was a resource that never was going to run out. After he realized the real origin of the dynamax energy, and since this happened 3000 years ago, he estimated that the wishing starts and the dinamax energy in general obviously wasn´t going to last forever.
He needed to replicate the events that caused the existence of the wishing stars and the dens in the first place to ensure the future of Galar (a region that was now completely dependent of this energy) and to do this he needed two things: to bring Eternatus (the pokemon that after being defeated scattered his energy through the region) back to life and "a hero" able to defeat Eternatus (aka, Leon, the strongest trainer of the entire region). He was able to do research to find the first one and along with Oleana´s help he used Macrocosmos (and Bede) to gather enough wishing starts to wake him up. However, he struggled with the second one, the hero. It´s mentioned during Rose´s conversation with Leon at Rose tower that he actually tried to convince him to help with his plan several times in the past. However, Leon always kept postponing the whole thing because he knew that it was dangerous (despite being confident of being able to defeat it) and also because he was more interested in his role as a champion and didn´t saw the need to act right now because the energy wasn´t running out right know (this is a similar situation and mentality to fossil fuel running out but almost no one not caring because it isn´t running out now, despite the fact that it´s a resource that is highly used in society in current times). After so many failed attemps to get Leon´s help and having Eternatus finally ready to wake up to face Leon, he made sure to create a situation to get Leon´s cooperation no matter what (awakening Eternatus during the final battle of the league). But Rose´s plan had a major flaw, and this was that the "hero" that defeated Eternatus were actually two legendary pokemon (Zacian and Zamazenta),not a person and he didn´t knew that fact since that lost part of Galar history was just recently discovered by Sonia (By the way, the lost history of Galar may be based/may be a reference to how stories like the one about King Arthur that, just like "the hero of the galar region", could´ve actually been stories about the great prowess of many different kings through history that got mixed up with the past of the centuries to the point where all those prowess were attributed to a single king that may or may´ve not existed.That being the legend of King Arthur instead of all of them (and "the hero" instead of Zacian and Zamazenta in Galar.).
Sonia found the fifth tapestry and thanks to this the player and hop were able to find the items needed to wake up the only ones that could actually defeat Eternatus. They defeated them (scattering his energy once again in the process by the way) and saving the Galar region. This means, that Sonia, as the pokemon professor, not only found out the real history of Galar but also two new legendary pokemon unknown until that time.
Chairman Rose based his plan on his knowledge of legend itself. That´s why he was so sure about the fact that Leon will be able to defeat him. It´s was huge plot point the fact that Sonia discovered the real story behind the legend (that were Zacian and Zamazenta, two unknown legendary pokemon the ones that actually defeated Eternatus) which was the only real flaw in Rose´s plan. But that´s because literally no one knew the real history of Galar up until that point. He based his plan on his knowledge of legend itself. That´s why he was so sure about the fact that Leon will be able to defeat him and needed him to participate no matter what.
Your interpretation makes the most sense in my eyes, and I wish the game were a bit clearer.

If them using the wishing stars as energy uses up the stars in some way, meaning they need more stars to continue powering the region, how would Eternatus waking up and scattering the stars work again? If there are a finite amount of stars, eventually even then they would run out and so would Eternatus? Unless you mean that Eternatus can power up used wishing stars with a limitless amount of energy contained within him?
I think the place in Twilight Wings is a hospital, not an orphanage. The description for the episode on the Pokemon TH-cam page says he is a hospital-bound boy. He could also be an orphan I guess though. But yeah, I can see Rose being related to that man/having a rough relationship with his father.

Given that he seems to have a father, I'd guess that many of the miners he grew up around are orphans, so that's why he has a heart for them, maybe that's where/why he met Oliana and why she's so dedicated to him
She doesn't seem to be the type for the manual labor of the miners, and he saw that and recruited her for that reason

To me, Rose seems like Lysander lite and the anime did a wonderful job showing Lysander's POV-why he was doing what he was doing. But Ash made several good points as well-you can't take someone else's destiny from them; everyone has to work together to make the future a better place. Leon seemed to have this mindset if his speech after the match is anything to go by. So I hope that the anime does a good job showcasing that morally gray area of Rose.
While this theory is pretty cool and I do see what you mean, I personally like the theory of the chairman and this unnamed dude being brothers, with the unnamed guy being raihans father (if we're going an extram mile here).

They won't. You can access the DLC areas as soon as the Wild Area is unlocked so they need to have their own self-contained stories separate from the main story since you can go there at any time.

I totally feel like the chairman is not as villainous as he is too impatient for his own good. It’s first foreshadowed when Oleanna tells you that he hates waiting while in Hulbury, and he wants to summon an extremely dangerous, one-of-a-kind being to solve a energy crisis that will only crop up in 1000 years. By then, people will be traveling the galaxy, terraforming planets, and would definitely be able to solve that crisis.
And he won’t even wait a single day to unleash a world-ending space monster, hoping to harness it for good. And because SwSh has no real villains, I know that the Macro Cosmos siege could’ve been avoided, and if so, Eternatus probably could’ve been contained. It was one of the humorous highlights of the game, happening not because of known criminal activities or potential apocalypses, but because Mr. No-Sense-Of-Direction Leon himself was late for dinner. And by his standards.
There’s also the brilliant pun of a literal and metaphorical elevator pitch. With Pokémon Teamwork, as the main conflict is Riku’s desire to usurp her mother Daiyamondo as Champion of Miedaa, I am probably going to have antagonists, but not villains. Just like SwSh.

Love it. Rose is a character with good intentions paved with bad methods. I wished to see more by end game, but hopefully dlc really will reveal more about his character. Maybe we might even see a redemption ark??
Right away, Chairman Rose reminded me of another character in a completely different franchise: President Snow of "The Hunger Games".
Reason: The name "Rose": President Snow loved white Roses in particular.
#2: the spectacle as a distraction: Rose used the gym challenge as a spectacle to distract the public from his real plan. President Snow used the "Hunger Games" as a spectacle to distract people from the fact that they were basically slaves to the capital and "keep the districts in line" and keep them distracted overall.

Could it be possible that Eternatus was used to power the Ancient Weapon from X and Y 300 years ago? Rose would fined out about it through legend and then start his hunt for the power sours.
I like the theory. the backstory works well and makes sense. Though I'm not convinced that the guy in the dlc is Rose's dad, I do like the idea. Most people think hes Raihan's dad/mentor since mustard from the other dlc is Leon's. I hope we do get more story on Rose to flesh him out, he didn't seem to be pure evil just misguided so it would be good to see how he got that way. I'm kind of hoping we have to work with him hannibal lecter style to learn more about the raid dens and the energy while we explore them.

The design is very similar. If not father and son, I could see them being brothers, they look similar in age. Two orphaned brothers, both resolved to move forward and make the best of their lives, but going about it in different ways.

I'm kinda gutted we know we'll be using the same save data. I was really hoping that the guy from the Crown Tundra would be Rose before the games took place as he was discovering the dens (darker skin could have been explained by the coal dust from the mines or something similar). Like the theory that it may be a relative of his though.
In the main game, he tells the player that he got the tech to detect dynamax spots and wishing pieces from Professor Magnolia. he probably took that and went around monopolizing the region. It makes sense that his first operation was the power plant by the mine but to have amassed a conglomerate like Macro, he def abused that technology.

Makes more sense if the DLC Guy is Rose’s brother. The two worked together to find Eternatus, but Rose’s ambitions got the better of him and he pushed his brother away causing the schism between the two.
The 'dad' actually makes me think of Raihan, but I think that's probably because the collar of his jacket is similar and of course skin tone.

Finally somebody else out here theorizing about this man lol i personally have so much to say about him, but ill leave it at this point about the orphans. Rose's main issue in the game is his concern and care for the future. And children in media tend to be shorthand for the future. Kabu even mentions this. And Opal's arc revolves around her passing the torch as well. I think these games as a whole have alot of anxiety surrounding the future, even down to the games themselves being the first main step towards the future of pokemon on consoles rather than handhelds. And i think that anxiety shines through the most in Rose. From his reaching out to children in diress (he also picked up oleana too), to his over ambitious goal of energy for a thousand years. Like an overprotective parent, it seemed like he just wanted to make sure things were okay.

How is Rose the villain here? His intentions are really good. Like Toby said, the execution was terrible, but I feel like he wanted to tell Leon about his plan with Eternatus, but Leon didn't listen. So why is it, that Rose is getting arrested and seen as the bad guy? Is it because he's a succesful business man?

It wasn’t that he wanted to solve an energy crisis and it isn’t because of his success as a businessman. Rose was obsessing over solving a problem that several people point out won’t become a problem for around a thousand years. He is starting off a near-apocalyptic event that risked lives all over Galar to solve a problem that is well outside the limits of being an immediate problem.
Leon did listen though, he just wanted to postpone the plan until the day after the final’s match. And considering that the disaster wouldn’t be happening for 1000 years anyway, that doesn’t seem that unreasonable. It was Rose who rushed things and put everyone in danger because he was impatient and couldn’t wait a single day. He was well-intentioned for sure, but his execution was extremely poor.

After listening to this video and the posible past of Rose, Makes me think of the big past of the region, starting with the two heroes/kings and his now descendants shielbert and sworward. What is up with that, it is strange royalty was only mentioned in the post game and I wish they would have given more info about the two kings and who they were. Was it stated them being brothers? Or nothing at all was given.

Honestly, you could have something about conflicting ideologies between family members if Rose's family came from outside the region. I mean, his signature pokemon is Copperajah; a pokemon based on the Indian elephant who came from outside of Galar.
One of the other things that came from the Industrial revolution is a sot of Reverse colonisation where people from the colonial areas (India, the West Indies etc) came over to the UK to work. Many went to the East End to the point that many British people of the time saw that area of London as somewhat separate from the rest of the country... people were weird.
It would be a little fitting considering in the last few decades, people rediscovered the history of Queen Victoria's Indian spiritual counselor who was a confidante of hers that taught her to speak Urdu considering she was the Empress of India at the time. Needless to say her kids didn't like him and threw him and his family out after Vic died.

When I first saw that character from Crown Tundra I thought it was post prison Chaiman Rose where he had an awakening and shaved off his head. Father makes much more sense.

I always just figured Chairman Rose was Indian which explained Copperaja who was a pokemon imported in obviously from the pokemon world's version of India. Even the dex entry says it was not originally from Galar.
So this is basically Rose's timeline:
- Rose became a miner, discovered Dynamax shards and that they had energy or knew their
existence before hand and seek to mine them, untill he had enough start up money to take a loan or investments to build his own mines to mine more Dynamax shards.
- Rose wanted to know more about this new groundbreaking source of energy. So he got in touch with people who knew about it, Mangolia being the main source of knowledge on the matter.
- He then invested to build gyms and the Rose tower in key spots where Dynamax energy was rampant, that he powered with Dynamax energy that was present in the gym spots, which then provided energy to near by towns and cities. The gyms capitalized on the Dynamax phenomenon in the gyms, providing exiting and entertaining battles for the viewers that made everyone get hyped and created a lot of profit. While at the same time, he organized an entire league to the region that he was in charge of, that took care of the things needed to organize the events. Rose would then use the profits to invest developing technology that would help him to find more Dynamax energy and shards, which were developed with the help of Mangolia.
- Few profits later from the mines, gym battles and from selling energy to towns and cities, Rose became rich and part of the region's Elite.
- But he knew there was more. He knew that this harmony of good source of energy would not last forever. Worrying about the future led him to discover the origin of Dynamax shards. He discovered Eternatus. Then the events of the game happen.
The first four generations all had identical gyms within the games, though admittedly it started as a limitation of Game Boy. But still, Galar was certainly not the first or only region to have identical gyms.
In the book Hard Times by Charles Dickens, (which takes place during England's industrial revolution and is all about class) there is a wealthy factory owner who claims he is an orphan that was raised by his abusive grandmother. He brags to everyone that he rose out of poverty all by himself with no help from anyone. Near the end of the book, we learn this is all a lie. His mother loved him and did everything she could to make sure he had a good education and support him. Once he became wealthy he became ashamed of his family and disowned them, preferring to lie to people about his past then tell the truth. Also, orphans and child labor were a huge issue during this time period, so it seems Pokemon may be taking this farther than we originally thought.
