Disney villains (particulary Jafar, Maleficient, Ursula, Shere Khan, and live-action Cruella from 1998 and Kaa from 94) and the raptors from Jurassic Park 3 in particular. Also Voldemort from the first HP movie. I was already a teenager when the rest of the films came out.
I don't think there was any show that scared me as a kid but one show I saw back when that scares me as an adult is Jay Jay the Jet Plane. Those planes are terrifying!
One T.V show that scared me as a kid was the animals of farthing wood. In particular the butcher bird impaleing baby mice on a thorn bush whilst their mother sobs helplessly.
If Raven thought Pinocchio was creepy in this movie, in the direct to video sequel (which was never released in the USA for some reason) he has a lot of competition for most creepy character. The other contestants are: *Puppet Geppeto *The aquarium filled with fish with human faces (they are just as creepy as the villain's appetite for them 😖) *Lampwick as a sea donkey *Lorenzini with his mutant sea monster parts with an addition of octopus tentacles for feet & legs (as opposed to whale tail fins) *Madame Flambeau If you've had watch the movie, let me know which one made you feel uncomfortable.
Fun fact: Disney's Jiminy Cricket is known as Pepe in spanish-speaking countries. How that influenced the Italian-inspired american non-Disney adaptation is beyond me.
It did feel somewhat bittersweet for me, and while that word choice doesn’t make much sense for most, it does to me, with it having you feel like you’re at your lowest point before a kermit comes by to help you through the trouble and telling you that, even if you failed the first few times, you can still find a way to succeed which helps bring you to a somewhat higher point and gives you the courage to try again.
Honestly Raven, I don't blame you for being freaked out by Pinocchio. This one is especially pretty creepy. That scene with the fountain on the rollercoaster has always stuck in my head for some reason ever since I rented this movie from the library years ago. The only good thing that's ever come from Pinocchio imo is Penny from RWBY.
@@RavenFoxAudio You realize there's probably gonna be a slew of Pinocchio suggestions now, right? Hopefully, I can be there to give something to balance it out nexxt week. If not, good luck with next Storytime/Mad Libs/ect.
I feel like I’m one of the few people who saw this movie as a kid and wasn’t traumatized. It was one of my favorite movies and made me obsessed with puppets. I made my own Pinocchio out of craft sticks, yarn, and Scotch tape (I was 7 so cut me some slack) and carried it with me absolutely everywhere. It was a tall monstrosity too. Almost as tall as me. Also fun fact: Jobathan Taylor Thomas isn’t actually singing during the puppet show. It’s Brian May from Queen with voice manipulation.
That last bit with Kermit was perfect. You did a great job with your Henson tribute, most of these films I had no idea he worked on, it was fun experiencing them for the first time with your reviews. Jim would be proud. Keep it up!
Bebe Neuworth playing a cat? What, is this like, her 5th one! Sorry, whenever I see Bebe voicing or playing a cat character, all I can think of is Mirage from Aladdin the animated series!
They might be in the order Orthoptera, but they're not exactly the same thing. It's like comparing two kinds of apples, sure they share common features but they're not an exact match.
5:01 - 6:04: Well, to be fair, the problem with Pinocchio being brought to life the moment he was created has been an occurrence since the original story, so you can blame Carlo Collodi for that. 16:20 - 16:43: That’s because, originally, Wallace Shawn, the voice of Rex from Toy Story, and the same guy who appeared in the Princess Bride, was suppose to play the Cricket in the Adventures of Pinocchio. Instead, they got David Doyle, who played Grandpa Lou Pickles in the Rugrats. It was his last performance before he died. 29:36 - 30:03: Nope, he won’t be killed when he’s in puppet form, not since Carlo Collodi gave in to the editors complained to him about Pinocchio being hanged as the ending. 33:52 - 34:12: Well, to be fair, the original story had the Dogfish/Shark die while Pinocchio and Gepetto were exiting out of the beast. 36:29 - 37:33: Well, God did make Adam and Eve, and they would’ve been brother and sister by default, but he labeled them as husband and wife instead.
The Colorization Channel Plus Stevie Wonder cooperated for the soundtrack as well. And I heard Brian May did the singing voice for Pinocchio. I think it was his voice sped up a bit to match Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
@@clarecarey2594 Indeed there are, for this movie there's a sequel called "The New Adventures of Pinocchio (1999) and another one made by the same people who made Happily Ever After cashing In Fake Sequels to Disney.
Thank you for reading my comment from "The StoryTeller" review!! And don't worry, my name often how read. Though, in the defense of the Snow White Prince, he kissed her goodbye in the Disney film and in the book, the apple lodged in Snow White's throat was removed when the Prince has her glass tomb removed. But "Labyrinth" as an 80's sitcom would probably be like "Adventures in Wonderland" for an older audience when you think about it.
And as always, it was strange to make Stromboli/Mangiafuoco/Feuerfresser/Whatever the villain, as he was clearly one of the nicest guys Pinocchio met in the original story.
I love this movie. Sure, parts of the movie scarred me as a child. i.e. the donkey transformation, but this is a good live-action adaptation of the book. The art direction, the production work, acting and yes the effects are beautiful to look at but they still add a dark element to it.
Has Raven ever seen Pinocchio's Revenge "Child's Play Knock-off." Pinocchio voiced by Dick Beals. She thinks that this Pinocchio is creepy then she hasn't seen the other movie.
Actually, Archie and his friends did kinda solve mysteries in Archie's Weird Mysteries but every episode was as goofy as any plotlines in Riverdale. XD
I remember seeing it a long time ago as a kid. Then somewhat less long ago, I watched it again. I thought it was hilarious, even moreso today when I know it's a huge, unsubtle puff of shame thrown towards outsourcing animation to unreliable studios in foreign countries, mostly the Russian Nudnik studio.
Fun Fact: Brian May from Queen actually worked on the soundtracks, alongside Sissel and Stevie Wonder. And Pinocchio's singing voice is actually Brian May's
I kinda know how raven feels... I had a fear of the headless horse man.... Pinocchio was just as dark. bad kids get turned into donkeys and beaten to death... the cricket gets killed...

Who says that Pinoccio is hurt by the woodpecker? His reaction is more of annoyance than pain. And "Pepe" is the cricket's name in the Disney Spanish version.
The ending scence of this review is very touching and its instering to see you doing a Bobsheaux movie. I'm intrigued. What would you make your movie about ? Is it a love story about you and Raven ?
I think it would have been better if Pinnocchio asked Gepetto for a little brother or sister when giving him the log at the end; it would have avoided any incest implications, and it's not uncommon for only children to ask their parents for a younger sibling
Lol, poor Raven. I had this movie as a kid and for some reason, Pinocchio never creeped me out. But that cricket sure did! I don't know why but am I the only one that found him creepier than the puppet?
Why Bob? Why? Why did you remind us of this creepy mess?! As kids, my sister had gotten the movie on VHS with the cover showing Pinocchio going from a scary puppet to a human. I had only seen parts of the movie with Pinocchio climbing out the window, to calling Gepetto "Papa" to the old man's chagrin and then to the puppet on a ship with donkeys. The movie didn't scare me in a "run out the room screaming" kind a way, but more of a "leave the room quietly and block that smelly puppet out" kind of way. Though, as I'm watching this review, I can't help but be reminded of the puppets of "LazyTown" which I was never really afraid of, oddly enough... Meanwhile, if you want a live-action "Pinnochio", I recommend the 2019 adaptation. I haven't seen it but, judging from the score on imdb, it seems like Robert Benigni has redeemed himself for that atrocity "Pinocchio" of 2002.
Fun fact: Just like in The Lion King, it's not really Johnathan Taylor Thomas singing. It's actually a man named Brian May who also wrote and sang the snippet song of the puppet play "What Are We Made Of?" in its entirety on the soundtrack along with vocalist Sissel. In that version, you get his real voice and it sounds like a beautiful power ballad. You can find the performance both under the aforementioned song's title and "Il Collosso" which is referred to as the play/movie version. They just sped up Brian's voice to match Johnathan's pitch. I know....Nerd alert. Can't help it. I listened to that song on repeat since I saw the flick as a little kid. Oh, and Raven's gonna hate this, but I found this little bit of trivia hilarious: The actress playing the cat lady alongside the fox guy trying to con Pinocchio was talking and acting like that to channel Eartha Kitt's Catwoman from the 1960s Batman series. Sorry, Raven! XD
11:04 Considering how much weirdness there was in the book (from a talking cat, fox, and cricket to a magic fairy and children turning into donkeys) a talking marionette was probably just another Tuesday for most people.
16:20 Its because Wallace Shawn was the original actor for Pepe, he recorded his lines and it was in the trailer for the film but he was replaced later on by the VA of Grandpa Lou in Rugrats for whatever reason
6:58 For some reason that remonds me of that moment when AniMat watched Treasure planet. When he saw pirates suddenly breaking into dance, he thought that they are malfunctioning robots, and later, when he sees their conversation with John Silver, he sees that they WERE malfunctioning robots
I think my early exposer to this movie as a young kid, effectively made it so I was never creeped out by puppets. This has always been my favorite Pinocchio movie, simply because of the artistry on display
I wonder what Raven will think of Del Toro’s take on Pinocchio? It’s still a year out (as of now), but going some recently released images, he’s stirring more into the creepy side of the story?
What's the name of that movie that Anthony Hopkins played in about the killer ventriloquist dummy. I remember watching that movie when it first came out and I was really young and that was one creepy movie.
Another great review guys, amazing stuff! Thank you so much for reading out my comments (you pronounced my username perfectly by the way), so glad you liked them!
Hey, have you heard of Guillermo del Toro is making his version of "Pinocchio"? I'm tickled pink at the idea of how Raven may or may not react to Pinocchio in stop-motion
Excellent review Bobsheaux! Keep up the great work. Speaking of Pinocchio, can you please review the 1999 movie The New Advenutes of Pinocchio? It's a sequel to this Pinocchio movie that you just reviewed. Also, the sequel is even more strange, bizarre and disturbing than this one.
29:47 I'm guessing the wood from the log he was carved from is like the wooden equivalent of Adamantium. Man, can you imagine if Marvel made a Wolverine/Pinocchio crossover?
As a child this movie terrified me so much I couldn't even sleep in the same room with the VHS. I actually called my mom in the middle of the night to come get it and get rid of it.
OMG I watched this movie as a kid but I barely remember the details! I remember the creepy Pinocchio, the strange neapolitan singing despite the story being from Tuscany and the singing in general... Not much else, so thanks for reminding me of this! I'll do a rewarch to see if it is really that weird 🤣
Raven must be fun when she watches horror movies, she doesn't like wooden dolls. Annabelle from the conjuring universe must freak her out as that's what he reminds me of.

I like the Disney version of Pinocchio. Also the Disney musical Geppetto.
ravens reactions in this had me in stitches.
The villain turning into a monster was the most nightmare inducing thing I had ever seen!
I think my early exposer to this movie as a young kid, effectively made it so I was never creeped out by puppets. This has always been my favorite Pinocchio movie, simply because of the artistry on display
WHY YOU GOTTA GIVE ME FEELS AT THE END AHHHH TT 0 TT
7:04 That laugh
I wonder what Raven will think of Del Toro’s take on Pinocchio?
It’s still a year out (as of now), but going some recently released images, he’s stirring more into the creepy side of the story?
And this movie sadly got a sequel
I love this months theme! Your reviews are amazing!
What's the name of that movie that Anthony Hopkins played in about the killer ventriloquist dummy. I remember watching that movie when it first came out and I was really young and that was one creepy movie.
Magic - 1978
Oooooooooohhhhh yeah. Magic...
I’m very fascinated by your knowledge of puppets bob. What’re some of the best puppet shows you’ve seen and or would recommend seeing?
There’s a sequel to this, you should review that next.
Just want to make a point that the clothing and architecture suggests the movie takes place in the Baroque 1600 or Restoration 1700 period.
Another great review guys, amazing stuff!
Thank you so much for reading out my comments (you pronounced my username perfectly by the way), so glad you liked them!
I enjoy watching your videos my dude
Hey, have you heard of Guillermo del Toro is making his version of "Pinocchio"? I'm tickled pink at the idea of how Raven may or may not react to Pinocchio in stop-motion
Oh, she is SO not watching that. lol
16:25 Might be because the Cricket was originally played by Wallace Shawn, and was recast.
For the "annoying agent" in the cryptid sitcom, I'd cast Christopher Walken.
25:00-27:00
This version of innocent, naive, do-as-you're-told Pinocchio reads more like Forrest Gump or Dostoevsky's "The Idiot"
Hey Bobsheaux would you consider reviewing the sequel to this movie The New Adventures of Pinocchio
I actually grew up on this one and it's fairly obscure sequel. I remember being terrified of the latter half for some reason
Wow... talk about a blast from the past!
Raven is very cute when she jumps
I will always love and watch you❤️
We love you too! ❤️
My favorite musician Elton John was on the muppets
@@RavenFoxAudio Hi Raven how are you ?
29:47 I'm guessing the wood from the log he was carved from is like the wooden equivalent of Adamantium. Man, can you imagine if Marvel made a Wolverine/Pinocchio crossover?
This scared the shit out of me especially with the roller coaster
"We're repugnant."
"Repentant."
"Yea, that too!"
I know that was cheesy, but it got a good chuckle out of me.
As uncanny as this film may be, it will always be much better than that one Pinocchio film where the title character is played by a middle age man.
i used to own this film when I was younger. I love everything about this film. Good times.
I certainly would like to see something like Monster High or Ever After High but with the relatives of Muppet characters.
If you have ever seen the show “Smart Guy,” Jason Weaver, singing voice of young Simba, plays the character Marcus.
Raven must be fun when she watches horror movies, she doesn't like wooden dolls. Annabelle from the conjuring universe must freak her out as that's what he reminds me of.
Raven doesn't watch horror movies.
@@RavenFoxAudio it's an acquired taste and after seeing your reaction, I can see why. Annabelle would trigger your bad memories of this film. Stay safe!
@@Sarahonwheels the only reason I'd be willing to maybe watch it is that I've heard Alex Ward is involved.
@@RavenFoxAudio no he's not in it the series of movies. It does have Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. It revolves around the Warrens and their occult museum of cursed objects, which is located in their house. Annabelle is one of their objects. The series doesn't really scare me, but if you are easily frightened, I wouldn't really recommend them. Just keep watching the Tim Burton stuff or any fa My sister and I really love horror/ weird stuff all the time. If that's all you take, then it's ok.
