I heard this the first time December 19th, 2014 the morning after my Daddy died. I had to pull my truck on to the shoulder while I cried. I played it for my Mom when I got home since we had to select music for his service, and then I held her as she cried. I can hear it now and just think of its sweetness, but this song really can punch you right in the heart
My Daddy died on December 12, 2022. I too had a drive when I was overcome--a few days after he died while listening to Across the Universe. I stopped listening to music we loved together after that. It still hurts too much. So, I'm trying to find new music and rediscover bands I loved imdependent of the ones we shared, like She & Him. After listening to this track and thinking how dad would have loved it, I scroll down and see your comment. I hope, nearly 9 years on, you're learning how to live with loss a little better. I'm still a beginner, so it's hard.

My pops passed March 12th 2021. Two and a half years later the pain still hits with the same force it did the day he moved on, just not as frequently.
In my case, I actually find a certain amount of comfort in listening to the music we shared, and enjoying the hobbies and skills he taught me, as though he can still enjoy them vicariously.
But then a poem or song or even just an interaction with a stranger will remind me of the pain of his departure. He was 61. A brain tumor took him. He knew before the diagnosis that he was going to go soon. And he knew if he had the surgery and went through the pain of radiation and chemo he would only get another few months, and they would hurt. He didn't fear death. But despite the promise of suffering, he decided to fight as long as he could, and "Stay Awhile" for his loved ones. So we had a little more time to say goodbye.
I love him and miss him greatly. I'mma go listen to "Turn, turn, turn" by the birds now...😢

M. Ward takes air guitar to a whole other level, and Zooey is flawless as usual. One of the best music videos I've seen.
Shes got a great singing voice, very reminiscent of the era theyre trying to replicate. Never knew Zooey had her own band, kinda cool

A nice cover of Dusty Springfield's 1964 classic "Stay Awhile" which happened to be the B-side to her signature hit "I Only Wanna Be With You" - I like how they tried to give it a 60s feel and kept backing vocals. The original version produced by Johnny Franz, who is considered to be the British "Phil Spector", one of the last great pros. Just wanted to let the newer generation know the origin of the song as you may like Dusty Springfield's music. She is one of the greatest soul singers of all time and undoubtedly left an impression on She & Him which are a great act in their own right - Good taste!!

Best part was the ending with the guitar shadow!!! Wow amazing.
I was thinking maybe they could have used a bloke in a full cgi costume like andy serkis as Gollum. But the way she dances looks a bit odd if it was with an actual person. And yeah that guitar shadow, pretty special! They shoulda done it with who she was dancing with, that woulda been pretty freaky in a good way :)

the guitar effect was awesome but her dancing with someone isn't catching on even if it's a shadow...maybe it's a ghost or something? the intrigue of not knowing! is what makes it special to me.

sevenblack07 haha yeah i know i was saying i thought she was dancing with someone at first but the way she was moving looked too weird for it to be with someone so i think you're right about the cables etc. some bits even look like they were filmed backwards then they reversed it to make it look normal. Yeah the guy in the full cgi costume was just a theory if she was actually dancing with someone but like is aid, i think you're right about the cables. I noticed at the end before M Ward drops the guitar, he walks in the opposite direction then what looks like a cut scene and he continues to walk to the sofa, i reckon they cut to give him something to hold for that shadow effect to take place. But then i could be reading too much into it... :P haha ! It's one of their best videos i think :)
Joseph Rogers haha,yeah you could be right too but the cables were kind of obvious & it was probably a green screen effect for the shadow (guitar at the end).
it's one of their best alright in terms of the music video.i got the backwards thing too watching this but i thought that just my imagination running wild...you said it too so maybe?? we'll never know now...haha
she is dancing with a guy with green screen suit/cgi suit, look up La Huella FX, which is the Visual Effects studio responsible for the great effects on this video

I love Zooey Deschanel since New Girl (only because I didn't know who she was when I was little and Elf came out). Some of their guitar actually reminds me of the Jesus and Mary Chain and others, which is cool.

Never thought I would ever say this, but it is even better than Dusty Springfield's version!!!! Whoever arranged this has done a fantastic piece of work, rescuing the pure tune from under the weight of the '60s arrangement. This is very much a duet between her and the guitar. Equal billing both.
