Love oatmeal cookies too. I used to make alot of different cookies when I was a little girl. Daddy didn't care for chocolate. So when I made oatmeal cookies I would take half the batter and put raisins in them. And chocolate chips in the other half. I adored my Daddy. Mommy did too, of course.😊Mommy and I agreed to put raisins in for him. But he wouldn't complain about anything. He was our Angel and our Rock. I had very spiritual parents. Daddy was a preacher and a Railroader for 44 yrs. God is our every thing. Daddy and Mom are gone now. They were married 60 yrs. 3 yrs ago today mommy passed. I love watching you and Chris. You seem like family to me. I have watched you alot. May God bless you and your family!🙏 Love ya all. 💕
Mother used sheets like that, I think I still have them in my basement. Now I'm going to have to check and see. I remember her taking a hot cookie sheet outside and waving it in the cold air to cool it off fast.😊

And don’t worry about licking your fingers since it’s just y’all. We all do it. If someone says they don’t they’re telling a fib. These cookies look delicious. I like mine crispy too. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Cinnamon is good for diabetics too. Lord I remember that Better Home and Gardens cookbook.
Another successful Sunday baking at our home! It was funny to see my dad patiently wait for cookies to cool down 🐷😝🥰. Thank you for sharing this recipe 😊💕
Can use butter flavored shortening...it comes in sticks which is great for cookies. Can use parchment paper so they do not stick. Also, I love the recipe on the underside of the lid of the oatmeal container. They are really delicious.
I agree with you in regards to the cinnamon. I also use the Saigon because I can now get it locally but in past years I would order the Vietnamese cinnamon from Penzeys.
Ok I watched this & now I want to get up and make these cookies instead of sleeping to go back to work tonight.!! Yum yum and good for your cholesterol and digestion.(a little bit)😀😀
I have my mother in laws Better Homes cook book and then a new one my husband bought me. I use my old one most of the time too. I'm 74 so my old one is OLD! I prefer it.
My grandmothers Better Homes & Garden cookbook has an oatmeal cookie recipe that does not use cinnamon. My favorite of all time. My mother’s book and my book have the cinnamon recipe.
Oh I just made them, thank you so much for sharing your recipes with us, as some cooks don't like doing that. Anyway, I used all butter, quick oats, no cloves and 1 cup of chocolate chips, semi-sweet and they came out perfect. My almost 91 yo mum is chomping away on a couple of them, still warm, melted chocolate all over her mouth, smiling so happily. lol
Tammy, you got me curious so I checked out my Better Homes and Garden cook books. I realized the older one is at least 53 years old! That means my go-to cookbook is technically an antique. We won’t discuss how much of an antique that makes me! 😱. It was a wedding shower gift I’ve worn out. The newer one shows a 1996 copyright. The oldest Oatmeal Cookie Recipe is a little different than the newer one, which is like yours. The ANTIQUE recipe, which was the very first cookie recipe listed in the Cookie Section and calls for shortening in place of butter, a teaspoon each of baking soda, baking powder, salt ,cinnamon, and nutmeg; 3 cups quick cooking oatmeal, then optional are nuts and raisins etc. (There is alternate sweet milk recipe). The oven temp is 400 degrees for 8 minutes. There is also a recipe for Oatmeal Crisps Cookies. (You mentioned liking them crisp) The 1996 cookbook was like yours. Sorry for lengthy comment. 🤐 Just thought you might be interested. Thank you for all the yummy recipe tutorials. 😋
The new cook books aren’t as good as the old ones. I bought a new Betty Crocker book because my old one was falling apart and it isn’t near as good as the older version.
QUESTION: is there a reason you baked the cookies on the bottom rack? I just wondered. Which rack is better? I don't know if I ever heard that addressed by anybody. I have used both lol. 💗
I LOVE Oatmeal cookies!!!! Thanks Tammy for reminding me of this love!!! Have you moved to your new home yet??? I hope you have an easier move than I have had!!!! I moved from South Florida to Jacksonville, FL.
My Better Homes & Garden cook book belonged to my mother; old 3-ring binder style. It's falling apart. But, I won't buy a new phone cause her handwriting is all inside. I use it often.
I have a very important question. About this recipe and many more. Why can’t we just use self rising flour instead of plain flour with the added ingredients to turn it into self rising. I’m 70 years old and have never been brave enough to ask. Thankyou in advance. Watch yall often
Hi Tammy! Hard to beat a good, old-fashioned oatmeal cookie! My crew makes quick work of a batch! I know you're making these plain, but if you have a chance to try it sometime, substitute chopped dried apricots for raisins. My crew also enjoyed experimenting by adding chopped almonds with the apricots. Hard to go wrong with any kind of oatmeal cookie! Thanks for another video, y'all!
Collard Valley Cooks I've been pretty sick for almost six months with CoronaVirus but I'm back and have been craving oatmeal cookies. I knew you'd have a great recipe. Can I use butter instead of Crisco? And what is that machine you're using to mix the ingredients together in called, I could really use one of those do dads. Your measuring spoons are great too. Thank you and stay safe 😷 💉
That newer BH&G is a different cookbook--it is Gifts from the Kitchen. I have at least 4 of the BH&G New Cookbook (funny it was even called that back in 1953!). They keep changing the recipes, though. Oatmeal Cookies used to be the 1st cookie recipe listed so it must have been the most loved. Then Chocolate Chippers got 1st spot. In 1996, Oatmeal cookies got demoted to #18. In the older books, only shortening, just brown sugar and 3 cups oatmeal were used! It also had a little buttermilk. The newest book I have must be the same as the one you like (2006),

Well Mr. Woody it has more horsepower than the kitchenaid. They don't make them like they used to. My brother got my mamas when she passed and it still runs! I have had several.
I have used butter flavored shorting in my baking. Don't bake much nowadays due to sever arthritis in neck back and arms . Then here in Arizona it gets to HOT 🔥 to bake if you don't have a good cooling unit. Just so ya know you made my favorite cookies plain oatmeal

Why did you change your mixer? Does it work better then your kitchen aid? Which one do you like better?
Better for videoing. I do like it better because it is lighter and easier to move.

What is the difference between pure vanilla extract and Mexican vanilla?
Mexican vanilla does not say it is an extract
