Why I chose Carvin over Kiesel, and how I got the Carvin Bolt

  • I purchased a Carvin Bolt in July of 2015 for $1014.00. I was later able to purchase a Kiesel Bolt in 2018, before it was replaced by the Delos. The Kiesel was just as good (and actually I was able to play better on it), but I kept the Carvin for its sound and my connection to it. For the money, it certainly holds its own against all the other brands in its price range- then and now.

2nd position sounds the best to my ear. I still have a Carvin sc90 i use for teaching. It was built like a tank

Great video. I totally understand. I have a 2006 CARVIN LB70 Bass I just can’t get rid of. I’ve played a Gibson then a Rickenbacker but I’m emotionally attached to my Carvin. And yes, a really fast neck! So fun to play.

Back in 1985, I bought my first real guitar. It was a Carvin DC100. I then ordered the components from Calvin and converted the guitar into a DC150. Eventually, I sold the guitar and bought a Hamer Chaparral Custom. The Hamer was the ultimate super Strat. However, the Carvin was stereo with coil splitters and had its own unique sound. Kiesel makes some nice guitars, but I miss the old Carvin lineup. As for single coils, I could never stand that 60 cycle hum. Carvin was always good for shielding their guitars, unlike Fender. I swapped out my single coils on my Fender for Seymour Duncan single space humbuckers. I have it wired so I can get the bridge and neck pickups together. My Fender is also swamp ash with a Birdseye Maple neck.

I have a bolt with a newer type of pickup and a hard tail through body stringing. Simply marvelous. Birdseye fretboard. All so nice.

Did you mean abalone inlay on the Kiesel? It sounded like you said ebony inlay.

The thing I liked about Carvin is they were more affordable. Especially on the used market. Now people think because Carvin guitars are not being made anymore, suddenly they are worth 2 or 3 times on the used market. With Keisel Jeff is obviously going for the PRS business model these days and marking up the guitars like he is the maker and middleman(retail store).

3:38 - I got an HSS second-hand Carvin Bolt years ago, but the switch never worked for me. A guitar tech tried to fix it, however the only thing it does now is turn off the humbucker in bridge when it's on. It's practically a killswitch for the bridge pickup now.
I, nor any other guitar tech I gave my guitar to, couldn't figure it out. However, my Carvin also has a coil splitter which the previous owner installed, so I assume that perhaps two switches collide with one another.
And to be honest I find coil splitter to be much more useful to me, having a full humbucker in bridge and a mini humbucker in the neck position, so while a cool feature I've learned to live without that switch.

Ah that’s interesting. I haven’t messed around much with the HSS set up. Thanks for watching!

@@everynotecountsofficial I needed something more versatile than my old strat, so I opted for HSS (or rather HSH with a mini humbucker in the neck) and with coil splitter engaged I can still get some nice strat-like tones in the bridge for blues. As such, this is my main guitar that I use for everything, from blues to heavy metal.
So I always recommend having a coil splitter on HSS and HSH guitars as it opens a world of tonal possibilities.
By the way, Carvin Bolts are great guitars. Don't ever sell yours, you'll miss it.

The Kiesel brand is more focused on high end guitars than Carvin was. There's no reason for them to go back since plenty of people are willing to get those $500 tops.

Hey just curious how much did you pay for the Kiesel? I’m interested in buying one.

Oh man I don’t remember the exact number but I think it was around $1600. Humorously enough, the Kiesel in this video that I bought and then sold is back on reverb for $1,350! They even used some of my original pictures. It’s listed as “Kiesel Bolt - Custom Transparent White over Flamed Maple.”
That being said, I do have my eyes on that new Aries A2…

I wish the consumer could choose between Carvin and Kiesel still. This might sound totally insane or even stupid, but I think the name change back to Kiesel has something to do with these guitara sucking. I know way back when the company they were named Kiesel and then for 50+ years they were Carvin. That’s when the problem occurred the name back to their actual family name Kiesel. I wonder if I had one built could they stick a Carvin sticker on the headstock I don’t want a stinking Kiesel.

During the transition and for a period of time after that, you could choose. I had the option of either when I ordered my Kiesel. You would have to get on the guitar builder tool on their website to see if it was still an option. Thanks for watching!

@@everynotecountsofficialI asked on IG a couple years ago. They said they would not put a Carvin logo on a Keisel. I know in 2015 when they first made the change their were a couple artists that wanted to keep the Carvin logo on there guitars. Trying to remember, but the names that pop up in my mind are Craig Chaquico, Frank Gambale and Greg Howe. That may have changed since then.

Your title makes zero sense since, they are the same company .the kiesel name is the original
