Every Note Counts
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ธ.ค. 2019
This TH-cam channel is all about taking something like a few notes, a small region of the fretboard, or a few chords and trying to milk them for all they are worth- making every note count. I’m not a professional guitarist or music theory genius by any stretch of the imagination, but I love sharing the guitar stuff I’m working on. When I hang out with other guitarists, we talk gear, music, and the stuff we are learning. This channel is my attempt to somewhat create that experience with all of you.

Casino Guitars helped me bring home my “forever” Telecaster!
Over a year in the making, this video contains the story of how a “big box” store failed to get me a guitar and how Casino Guitars came to the rescue. It also includes the unboxing of my new guitar, played direct into my amplifier (Marshall Origin 50w), as well as an overdrive pedal (Walrus Audio Ages) and a fuzz (Walrus Audio Eons).

A Ridiculous Pedal for Ridiculous Fun!
มุมมอง 133ปีที่แล้ว
It arrived! Number 58 of 60 in the (first?) run of the 9 switched boost pedal, the WHAC-A. Using a decibel meter, let’s see how loud this thing gets as we click each foot switch, adding one boost circuit on top of another. Oh, and lets see how much dB boost is on tap compared to Thorpy's The Dane (just for fun).
Can you HEAR a difference? Testing fuzzes- clean vs dirty amp and clean-up

Walrus Audio's Lore + Fable. Let's run them parallel and reinterpret a John Mayer song!
มุมมอง 603ปีที่แล้ว
Pretty straight forward here today. I have two pedals from Walrus Audio. I am not going to stack them together. I am going to run them parallel with the GigRig Wetter Box. This will allow the pedals to react to my guitar playing but will prevent them from interacting with each other (which should prevent the effects from getting too chaotic and jumbled). We will take a John Mayer riff (from "Be...

I was looking for the perfect octave fuzz, but this pedal is broken! After troubleshooting the Lizard Queen, I got it to work long enough to compare it to The Argo by Mythos. Let's see how they stack up.
FREE GUITAR PEDAL!? Can I get one from Walrus Audio?!

Colt from Walrus Audio said he would send out a free pedal to anyone who uploaded music onto Spotify using a band name that they came up with. I accepted his challenge. Here is the story of my persuit of a free pedal.
Too little too late?! Compare the Blues Breaker re-issue to Browne Amplification's pedals
มุมมอง 4.8Kปีที่แล้ว
I have really enjoyed my re-issued Marshall Blues Breaker. That being said, I bonded with Browne Amplification's Protein pedal before Marshall reintroduced the Blues Breaker. Is one better? Browne Amplification's Carbon pedal is the same as the blue side of their Protein pedal (which we will verify at the beginning of the video). Both of these circuits are based on the Blues Breaker. Browne Amp...

Earthquaker Devices re-released the White Light in a limited run of 2,000 pedals. I was excited to try it out, but it took some time for me to figure out if this pedal would work for me or not. After running this pedal with three different guitars, I had some insights that I thought might would be worth sharing. I hope you enjoy it!
5 AMAZING Walrus Audio pedals I chose for my all-Walrus pedal board

Thanks for all the input I received on which Walrus Audio Pedals I should try out! I definitely would not have made all these selections without you! In this video, I will play through the 5 pedals and show some cool ways I found to combine them.

ONLY Walrus Audio Pedals! Tell me 5 to choose for my All-Walrus pedal board!
มุมมอง 101ปีที่แล้ว
I NEED your input for which Walrus Audio pedals to purchase. Here are the rules: 1. No more than 5 pedals 2. At least 2 gain stages (boost, overdrive, distortion, or fuzz) 3. They can't ALL be gain stages Please let me know at least one pedal you would like to see (or all five!). I dabble in bluesy-"Hendrixy" stuff, but I also like hard rock and ambient stuff. Any combo of pedals that does one ...
Fender's QC under evaluation! I found some issues... but it wasn't Fender's fault!

I bought a second American Vintage ii guitar and decided to make an unboxing video to see how they compared. Strangely, the new one had setup issues... but it doesn't look like it was Fender's fault.

Inspired by Protein! How I used this pedal's tones to create guitar rhythm and solo parts
Frankly, this sounds like a feature to me. I wonder how I could utilize this with a walkie-talkie. Anyone know how I can induce this reliably?
I’ve had both, doesn’t matter what a YT video shows, stock TS9 destroys the Warhorn. I can play a TS9 or 808 for hours, but the Warhorn gets old in 5 minutes. You find yourself twisting knobs but nothing ever sounds good enough. Also, TS doesn’t cut treble. It’s cuts bass. It has lots of mids and highs, to my ears. That’s why they’re so great, if you’re into jangly 60’s tones.
So let me get this straight. You're basically saying the guitar itself is the best guitar you've ever had, but because it was too bright you couldn't use it? Even after you switch to the pickups / pots? This to me is like being told that one plus one equals seven.
For the price, the guitar is great. The body and neck are made just for this model. The pick guard has counter sunk screw holes...one off set and slightly routed dent for neck adjustment, which is period correct. The bridge is done on original equipment. This stuff adds up in time. Time is money. The point is, is that for a semi production guitar, it's great. I love mine. Even though I had to set it up. My original 62 , which disappeared at a gig many years ago, had a pocket gap where I could fit a pick.
I have a fiesta red one. no one should worry about the sticky neck. After a few plays., it is very niice. Over all, my favorite Strat.
No Fender Stratocaster should have that ridiculous price tag. Is absolutely unjustified. There's absolutely nothing in the construction of that guitar that can elevate the price over 1.5K, not the electronics, not even the nitro finish Fender uses. That nitro isn't going to age like old Fenders, that's a myth. The correct priced stratocaster are the Vintera II. Anyone that wants a real vintage spec strat should buy a Vintera II and maybe swap the pickups and deal done.
I got one and it was great. It was everything I could ask from an octave fuzz. For about 5 minutes. Then the volume dropped right off when I changed the pickup position. . I played around and got the sound back, but suddenly the pedal only had one sound, no matter what I did with the controls. Oh, and there was a squeal in the background, too.
The neck gap is a big deal as it causes tuning issues and looks like crap. How a Fender has a gap like that when they have cnc machines making these things boggles the mind. Fender also has the worst fret jobs in the business.
Hall James Jackson Charles Harris Linda
I love my hardtail Carvin Bolt as well. It came to me as a kit guitar and I was at least the third owner. The electronics had been molded to his. I installed alnico single coils and couldn't be happier with it.
I have both and I much prefer the carbon I like it so much I bought the x
I did the same and modded an ibanez Xiphos into my teenage dream guitar... Back then u wanted to look as evil as possible on guitar...😅
they sound very similar
That’s a good looking guitar
Must have been a new hire doing the strings at Fender, LOL! That's crazy!
Get a utility knife, they're wonderful for opening boxes!
I am very fond of my 73 AVRI II.. The neck of a nice chunky C. With comfy shoulders. It fills your hand nice. What would you compare the 61 profile to? Like an AM Pro II or? Anything I might know?
@@simonsmith2642 it felt like a slightly fuller modern C. I have a video where I compare the 61, the Mexican Strat, and a 63 neck by molding play dough around the neck. That might help for a visual. Thanks for watching!
You found some problems, not issues. Issues are magazines and newspapers
I learned back in my early 20s to NEVER loan out guitars and amps to "friends". 9 out of 10 times you will get burned and your friendship will go up in smoke. It only took one incident to learn my lesson. Never again. I loaned a best friend my 100 watt Marshal stack to do a gig and it came back fried. He dropped it off while I was at work and everything looked fine until I plugged it in the following weekend! It cost 300 bucks to have it repaired at a guitar shop back in 1989. Not chump change. Of course he denied it, It was working fine when I returned it and refused to pay for the repair.
@@johnsmith-ug5tp oh wow that’s terrible! Sorry that happened to you.
Fender's CNC programmer and their head of QA should be fired for not catching and correcting the issue immediately. Unacceptable!
Carvin is the real thing.
Looks like top input/output jacks are best for this build.
The neck is not set correctly. Second video I've seen where this guitar comes not lined up right. Neck pocket has too much play.
If the neck was moving around, I would agree, but those four massive screws seem to be doing their job keeping it secure
What about the inversion of the dyads ? Do they help on voice leading like with triads ?
They made ,ore like 6000 i have serial number. 2634
I messed up and sold my protein but man I loved the left side I have the marshall reissue but it just isn't the same I'm thinking about getting the carbon x
I had a Protein but sold it as I wasn't keen on the green side (ODR-1) so I bought the Carbon. Even though they're the exact same circuit the Carbon is so much better than the left side of the Protein. Initialy I though I was a crazy but then read multiple people also saying the same. The Carbon has since been my go to Bluesbreaker circuit, even purchasing the new V2 variant. A great pedal for a clean boost, edge of breakup or full on ovedrive.
If they make a sonic blue, I’ll get one.
I would love to get that!
It was awful on arrival. Had to take off the neck, tighten the truss rod, tighten tension springs, adjust saddles. It needed a full set up. Now, it’s the best of my 10 Stratocasters. Absolutely amazing
I’m so glad you were able to turn it around and enjoy it in all of its glory!
Geez, what a beautiful instrument. I just found the one, can’t wait to get it.
Your tuner has a buffer too
I was so distracted by that absolutely beautiful corner cabinet..but the video helped me to decide that I would indeed buy the warhorn. I play at home for recreation with headphones so enjoy having the ability to crank up bass sometimes. Great video!
Might not be a faulty unit. I experienced and felt the exact same way about mine and I realized there is something happening when you pass around "2 o'clock" on the volume dial. It gets fuller and smoother. Try that and try lowering the gain a bit and you might see that you have a totally different animal. Hope this helps :) stay shredding
I have a bolt with a newer type of pickup and a hard tail through body stringing. Simply marvelous. Birdseye fretboard. All so nice.
Thats a used guitar, I'm hearing too many horror stories about these Vintage II guitars, people who work in guitar shops do mess around with the guitars, like do a gig with them and bring them back to the shop and put it back on display, sell return ones back out to a new buyer, swap the G&G case for the cheaper Korean made one, etc etc. long time ago I bought an Ibanez Floral Jem, had it for quite some months when I decided to look at the wiring, I took the back cover off and couldn't believe my eyes, the wiring had been messed around with, somebody had re-wired it and then put it back to normal with absolutly atrocious soldering work, I took it back to the shop and demanded a replacement, they tried to down play my finding, I never shopped there again, and it was a well known and respected shop in London.
7.25" radius should NEVER choke out if your guitar is set up properly. I've got one such right here and can bend far enough on any string that I feel it might break. No choking. 2 full steps ("4 frets" as you say) is no problem. Learn basic guitar setup. Operator error. (or pay someone qualified). Listing to you talk about stuff you have no idea about is painful. Pau Ferro skunk stripe? Maple skunk stripe?!? Seriously, imagine spending all that money and not knowing thing 1.
Bought all the drives from Mooer. I use the rat Zen drive and blues breaker all the time
I also looked at one of these as well in a store. Huge neck pocket gap.
Thank you great job… I’m old-school.. I get how people like a little more distortion and two pedals with the protein.. but I love the simplicity of the blues breaker… And i have seen that all these other pedals , whether it’s king of tone or protein, or all based off of the blues breaker.. I’m going with the original blue breaker! Thank you
Great video. If I may make a suggestion? Many people who do these sorts of reviews neglect to provide samples with distortion/fuzz/over drive while playing full chords. You know, like power chords, cowboy chords etc? It's fairly important for people trying to make a decision, as we're not always soloing. Other than that, everything was great. Take care!
Great suggestion, thank you!
@everynotecounts Since this video is from a er ago how do you like the 61’ now? Still have it? Anything improve or become more annoying about it in a year of playing it? I just got a 61’ AVII in sunburst and so far it’s great. Looks nice in white also, congrats on the new guitar (last year lol) 🎸 🔥 👍🏻
I love it still. It’s my second favorite strat, right behind the one that I spec’d myself with Fender. I haven’t made any modifications either. I hope yours works out for you as well!
Did you mean abalone inlay on the Kiesel? It sounded like you said ebony inlay.
Thanks for this video! Was about to dump my warhorn for a ts9 but i guess I’ll keep it!
Absolutely keep it!
So tired of gear dorks nitpicking every little stupid thing. Play the damn thing. Glad to see that you are interested in actually making music with this. I love my AVII. I got the 3-tone sunburst and I absolutely LOVE this guitar.
I have a Chicago Stompworks Blooze Maker overdrive that does this, but my distortion and fuzz do not? Changing cables did not help either. (maybe the cables were of similar quality but wonder why the distortion and fuzz do not catch radio waves?)
blah blah blah...and your tone generaly sucks...and please next time put volume on at least 1 not zero.
