    No arguments here with thermal paste, it doesn't matter if you do a blob, a cross, a circle, a square, a heart the flag of Georgia or a miniature Mona Lisa. It's how much you put on that matters because the heatsink will squash anything down in any style the same way and you all you need it to do is to have a nice coverage of the CPU without spilling over the edge. So if you are better at judging how much is enough with a blob, do a blob, if you are better at judging how much with a cross do a cross and etc..

    I completely agree with the way you install the power supply when the case allows for air draw from the top. That’s the way I install them because I don’t know what environment they will be using the rig in. There’s just not enough gap on the bottom of a case for air intake on anything but a wood floor. Lots of rigs end up on a carpeted floor. On a second note, you’re drawing in some pretty fresh air from the case with its’ multiple fans.

    I did not realize it at first, but the HDMI was not working on my 5700G build. I would get some strange purple mess on my screen. I had done all of my initial testing using the working Display Port. I had originally installed the latest driver found for the AUS ROG Strix B5550-F Gaming (wifi) from the ASUS web site. Luckily the driver updater tool from the AMD site found a later driver that took care of the problem. Seems to be a very cool running build. More often than not when I put my hand behind the rear fan, I feel cool air coming out of the case.

      I'm with just keeping the PC off the floor, it's going to suck in more dust and fluff just as a consequence of being on the floor. If you don't like a big ugly box up on show, choose something more compact and discreet or put it on a unit beside the desk that sits lower (but away from floor level). It's the same logic as not sticking a game console on the floor really, it's not a stretch to suggest that people don't situate their PC on the floor.

Plan on installing all 5, replacing the stock rear fan, as the CFM on the new fans is better. The case comes with extra standoff posts, clips, & fasteners. Your build is a good reference. For retrogaming , emulation or playing older titles this apu is a lil monster . to build a compact system ( like amini itx build ) it would make a decent multimedia pc .however those apu's love high frequency dual channel memory with very low latency . for casual gaming at low settings or for studying /working it's a good bang for the buck. the 5700g cost a lot more and gives about 10% better performance in gaming for +2 more cores and +1 vega core.
    the 5600g makes more sense for budget builds . the cost is just above the 3600 and you get better cpu performance + vega graphics so its a good value .

  • @HazewinDog

    I totally agree with you saying that anything below a 1050 Ti or a 960 is a 'media card', and I say that as someone who uses a GTX 960 4GB in my main PC. Not because I can't afford better, but because it's the cheapest GPU that is good enough for gaming.
    That being said, Cyberpunk 2077 is not a great experience with a GTX 960. You can make it work, but it definitely looks like a 10 year old game if you want ~40fps at 1080p.
    Anything older is even worse in Cyberpunk btw. Even the GTX 780 Ti and GTX 780 6GB I have perform worse in Cyberpunk than even a 1050 Ti w/o power connectors. This is due to their abysmal DX12 support. I would therefore absolutely advise against buying 700-series cards in 2021, except for ultra budget systems, if you can find one for say €30.

    Integrated graphics with the 5600G with the plan in mind to drop in a GPU when availability/pricing improves. That's a good plan in my mind. Hardcore gamers possibly have a GTX 960 or similar card sitting around anyway. If your card dies on you at least you have reasonable onboard graphics to fall back on. In these current times I think almost everyone should go for a CPU that has the APU or IGP.. It won't cost you much more generally speaking. Better to have it than not need it rather than not have and need.

    thats an awesome machine!

  • @QuentinStephens
    @QuentinStephens 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was a very elegant build.
    Please tweak your fan configuration next time: having both top fans as exhausts means that the front one steals a lot of the cold air coming in from the front fans, particularly the higher front fan. You should have the rear top fan as exhaust, but either omit the front top fan or have it as input. And if the case is to be laid on its side then have all four fans blowing in.
    I was somewhat bemused to see you separate out one GPU power cable and tidy away the other. I know the cable has two plugs, but I'd rather see the 300W maximum power go through two separate cables.
    While I agree with you about PSU placement, be careful when it comes to the edge case of very power-hungry builds: a PSU that needs to output 1000W will be drawing 1250W from the wall if it is 80% efficient at that load so will need to exhaust that extra 250W as heat. I appreciate that your target market is unlikely to invoke this - unless Caradog wants a dual / triple A6000 Threadripper Pro 3995WX build, of course!

    5600g or 3700x? i can't decide, i want the most recent cpu for future proofing BUT the 2 extra cores make the 3700x tempting. btw they are the exact same price.

    • @Adamant_IT
      @Adamant_IT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd go 5600x tbh, it'll outpace a 3700x due to the better IPC, it's newer, and only a hair more expensive.

    I'm curious on why you used a 600W PSU for that build? Was it a discount or something because a built like this would surely have been fine with a 350W PSU, no?

    • @Adamant_IT
      @Adamant_IT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea I originally picked it up on sale. I'd still have put in a decently sized PSU anyway though, just so a GPU can go in at a later date if desired.

      Intel are being dicks about RAM speed, you didn't pay them enough money so you're stuck with 2666.

    • @cjmillsnun
      @cjmillsnun 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For higher RAM speed on 9th gen you need a Z390 board to enable XMP. To be honest RAM speed doesn't matter too much on 9th gen anyway.
