    This video was awesome! I've been using Polycam to capture 3D models of my chainsaw carvings. I purchased a resin 3D printer and started making small keychains out of the models. I've been wanting to learn how to make digital videos of my sculptures within an environment that I can choose...Your video has just taught me that it's possible. Thank you!

    Nice video. It would be interesting to see a video about, re-mashing and retopologising the scanned meshes. Anybody who used a 3D scanning app experienced the huge and messy amount of triangles the scanned objects have. Lots of 3D apps out there are close in scanning quality. The realy game breaker would be the app that can handle stright, more shining surfaces, and other percs like giving you more control over the scanned mesh, e.g. changing triangles to quads... etc.

    • @badxstudio

      @@badxstudio Hi! Nice to hear from you. I'm not 3D printing, I want to show the meshes on a webshop. I tested a lot, and these 3d scan apps are a really time saver when it comes to scanning complicated geometry and surfaces with a lots of details. But it handles quite bad simple geometric objects with sharp edges, corners and polished surfaces. I want to retopologise, reduce the number of polygons and convert to quads. I tried some retopology processes in Blender combined with other software and in many of this cases, the meshes come so distorted from 3D scanning app that it requires to have skills above average in modeling, to fix them. And if I would have this skills I wouldn't bother with 3d scan apps :)

    You made it, looks pretty cool! If someone would do it with DSLR or Mirrorless Camera(which is better), go with high aperture lenses like f8 so streching will be less on the photos, also shooting with RAW file format can gives you more control on photo editing.

    • @markrosche
      @markrosche ปีที่แล้ว

      that would be frakking fantastic!!! You make learning Unreal fun!!!! There are quite a few “unreal live production” videos on youtube, but none that show a complete workflow…either they are targeting the absolute beginner or the super advanced user…would love to see a series on:
      1. Building a set in Unreal (with build your own 3d models from your photogrammetry stuff as well as other models from Blender, Fusion360, etc). This would include lighting and external automation (via StreamDeck Companion with HTTP or OSC control).
      2. Setting up cameras (both in Unreal and connecting the live cameras to Unreal and sync them together with something like LiveLink)
      3. Camera animation (sequencer vs. procedural blueprint animation vs. live synced camera movement) and how and when to use what option. This would also apply to rendered cinematics as well as live broadcast.
      4. Audio in Unreal in live production (without have to rely on post production) i.e. Audio input from an SDI capture card (blackmagic or aja), add sound effects, etc and output via SDI card (blackmagic or aja) maintaining sync.
      5. OK, a studio is built, cameras and audio is working, “How to actually do the live broadcast?” Do I need to compile my Unreal world? Do I need to press play?
      I know some of the points might seem trivial to you guys but being a somewhat intermediate Unreal user, those are points that cause quite a bit of struggle 😁😝

  • @colinobrien3394

    To get all your photos, could you record a video and then convert the video into separate images?

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do that for sure, but bear in mind that with video you will have compression and so naturally your quality is not going to be as high as a photo. On top of that with photos you will stay still for a moment and that reduces motion blur which is exactly what increases the quality of scans. But with that said, the tech is getting so good nowadays that with thiings such as GAUSSIAN SPLATTING (look this up :D thank us later) you get to have blurry images and still get fantastiic results. SO yes you can do that but it depends on the quality you want and the tech you are using!

    how long do you work on a project like this ? because you said it was the only time we go out for weeks.

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So we are doing youtube 24/7. Litreally every hour of everyday.
      The reason we didn't go out for weeks is because we are constantly recording, rendering and editing videos behind the computer, but when it comes to photogrammetry we have to go out and do part of the work outdoors.
      Now to work on a project like this, honestly just creating the short video with unreal engine didnt take long. If you consider the photogrammetry outside that took about 1 hour. Then at home the polycam processing of the model took 20-30 minutes. Once we had the model we loaded the sample scene in unreal and did the lighting, and camera work! That took about a few hours and we were done :)

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you watch the video until the end, at 14:12 we mention it belonged to ancient Haida Village. And yes, we asked the staff if we were allowed to take photos.

    • @justuslowry
      @justuslowry ปีที่แล้ว

      @@badxstudio fair enough, but taking photos is different than reproducing the artwork in your own projects though. Do the staff and nation and artists know the end use?

    • @justuslowry
      @justuslowry ปีที่แล้ว

      @@badxstudio and to be clear, I'm really not trying to throw you under the bus or be one of those people on the internet that likes to me sh***y about everything. I follow you guys and love your work. This is a geniune issue with so much artwork out there, especially when it comes to Indigenous artwork being taken. The title "Take ANYTHING", too....Unless the staff was Haida, permission should come from the Haida nation and the descendents of the artists who created this art.

    • @badxstudio
      @badxstudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justuslowry First of all we appreciate the fact that you watch the videos, that means a lot to us! To be clear, the "take ANYTHING" is just referring to the concept that with photogrammetry we are able to bring any object of any size into a 3D software, I believe we mentioned that in our introduction straight away. Now as for the Totem Pole, we did lots of looking around to find the most beautiful and attractive objects to scan around Vancouver and show it to our audience. There are lots of buildings around but they carry no meaning and no culture. We always like to showcase cultures, history and stories to entertain and educate our audience so that we can all learn something together. If you look through our previous project, you notice we recreated the entire tomb of King tut of Egypt for the exact same reason. We have nothing but respect for the indigenous culture hence why we also mentioned where it belonged to in the video. And we told the staff we are creating a video about the totem pole, hence the amount of photos!

    • @justuslowry
      @justuslowry ปีที่แล้ว

      @@badxstudio I loved the Egypt content! Very impressive! And I know you had no bad intentions in taking the totem pole into your project. But it still stands that you should get permission from the descendents of the artists or a leader from the Haida nation who has the right to grant you permission, unless the staff you spoke with were Haida and able to speak to the proper protocal. I do hope you find a way to get permission or that you'll respectfully take it down if not. Thanks for having the conversation!
