    Thanks for this series on algae and how to deal with it. I've been using DIY Co2 as per your video from a while ago and it's made a massive difference to the plants that I'm growing in my first aquarium. Along with the growth of plants I also got a ton of green hair algae and some green spot algae. Water changes and scraping it off and suctioning it off has really helped. Thanks for all your work.

    Great informative video! I did have issues with bga when I first set up my 9 gallon fluval flex! It kept appearing on my sand foreground! I actually saw one of my amanos eating it! It eventually went away shortly after I started dosing ferts! I haven’t seen it since! Looking forward to the next green spot algae video since I have just a few spots of it on my anubius nana petite! Thought the amanos and horned nerites would’ve taken care of it but nope! Haha

    What about alkaline hard water as a primary cause of cyanobacteria?

  • @Sophia1991sd
    @Sophia1991sd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    great videos. I just wanted to add some points about using anti biotics.first when you use antibiotics you have to make sure to get rid of it because it can get toxic after two days.using activated charcoal and a huge water change helps with that.another point is that antibiotics will kill nitrifying bacteria too. so if you use anti biotics, after changing water and removing traces of the antibiotic, you have to cycle your tank again.

    • @absoluteis
      @absoluteis 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      hi.. not correct. All antibiotics have specific targets and don’t destroy “all bacteria”. The most simple example is there are antibiotics that target gram positive bacteria, which won’t affect gram negative bacteria.. in any case, the antibiotic that is used to target cyano does NOT affect nitrifying bacteria. There is no need to cycle the tank again

    For my the main reason is waterflow. I tested one tank with flow vs 1 tank without flow . after 1 week without flow the substrate (fine sand) Cyano patches grow day by day. After i put a flowpump in the tank after a view days the cyanos are completly removed !

    im not a big fan of you suggesting antibiotics as the 3rd option without mentioning the downsides and potential problems it can cause to all of us. Antibiotics are no joke.
    1. it can lead to bacterial resistance
    2. when do a water change and flush them down the toilet they are still active and will have effect on environment
    3. you have (at least where I live) to get an prescription (which you probably won't get) or order them over the internet (probably illegal)
    4. it's probably overkill anyways
    3. Why not mention at least spot treatment with ec of bacter 100 which seems to work also

    • @MJAquascaping
      @MJAquascaping  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right I probably should have made a disclaimer for that. I apologize
      But the product I suggested is just a general tropical fish medicine, no need to get a prescription for that I think. But then again I don't know where you live.
