I haven't bought a Thor comic since Aaron gave Mjolnir to Jane, so I'm not here to comment on any specific narrative or story, but the last time I did was Aaron's run on Thor, and while it was entertaining in parts I just noticed that he (and Marvel writers in general) wants to tell a human story using mythological/magical/superhuman characters. Whereas other writers take on Thor (or any other powerful character with a sci-fi or fantasy background) seeking to write a story about Asgardian characters walking among men and dealing with uber powerful villains. It's one thing to inject human or humanistic elements in a fantasy adventure story, it's another to treat said characters as basically regular people who happen to have powers. It's how I feel about MCU Thor as well. He doesn't seem like a mystical , godly knight with crazy powers and poetic dialect, but rather a goofy fratboy who happens to be a powerful alien*. He's literally stated directly that he doesn't care about continuity or fan opinion and just writes what he wants. He also did a number on Thor's whole background and a lot of other characters for that matter (like Odin - something this video is specifically talking about). He actively undermines other writer's developments with Thor and the entire Asgardian mythos is in shambles at the moment due to Aaron's extensive and retcons and overall butchering of the continuity. . That aside, I don't think I've ever once stated Thor is my favourite character. But even if he was my favourite character, who he does or does not defeat in battle has nothing to do with it. I like characters when they are written well. Their power level is kinda irrelevant. I've been around the internet long enough to recognise flaming and baiting when I see it. I'm just not sure why you'd bother or what you thought it would achieve. Trying to antagonize me by "talking trash" about a comic character is juvenile at best and frankly, I really don't have enough investment in a fictional superhero to be any more concerned about it than to feel a little bit of second hand embarrassed for you considering how immature that kind of behaviour is. It's a little pathetic.
Odin was never cruel, or abusive. He may be tough, but he is fair, patient and always loved thor. If odin or thor met Jason Aaron, they would bitch slap him for writing odin to be a drunk stubborn and abusive asshole.
I agree with your assessment completely. Jason is a complete hack. His refusal to keep cannon has cost The Mighty Thor & Marvel this customer of over 40 years. I will not be going back.
Being the son of an abusive father I don't believe abusers have these thought process that Odin has. I believe abusive fathers are much worse than this Odin portrayal.
let me just say this...THIS ISSUE WAS HORSE SHIT! who made odin an asshole and a loser of a father?? it wasn't STAN LEE. it wasn't WALTER SIMONSON. the first time i remember odin being a jerk and a loser was MATT FRACTION'S run. that's when i first noticed thor talking back to odin and both of them fighting! JASON AARON took fraction's odin and weakened him and made the louse that he is now! i have been reading STAN LEE'S run of thor and man, ODIN was REGAL, POWERFUL, HONORABLE. thor and everyone else loved him and odin loved him back. yes, there were squabbles, but NEVER did thor disrespect odin the way he's doing now. another thing, why is ODIN'S FACE still remains bruised and swollen?? he should heal almost instantly! AND odin is the one that gave the power to THOR'S HAMMERS. everything about this thor and the supporting cast is the WORST i have ever seen....
Great video. You know what’s upsetting? I just looked and this issue is receiving 95% ratings and 10/10 on comic rating sources. Idk how you can be an avid comic/Thor fan and not have this issue irritate you because they’ve now retconned the hell out of Odin. Disappointing.
Like you said the story works as What if? story or a complete re-boot .....other than that it just seems like a therapy session with Asgardian gods thrown in
Ever since they came after Ragnarok, the world of Thor has changed little by little. Odin was actually acting kinda of abusive towards Thor back in the Fear Itself arc, hateful towards Loki, and pissed all the time towards Thor. I am not going to defend Aaron’s writing even if I do enjoy it a little. But Thor and Odin’s relationship has been going bad to worst little by little. Not just on Aaron’s writing.
@@logandelaharpe6362 and yet, even before that he was still acting like that. We both know dead to this guys isn’t something that sticks, Odín himself has been brought several times. And when he came back, he had issues with Thor doing it, and going as far as threatening Loki.
Jason Arron. The guy who wrote one of THEE best Thor’s stories. Is ruining Thor. Yeah, you just lost all your credibility there buddy (not that you had any to begin with) and the art is actually good. And I highly doubt you can do any better
@@logan6034 The art is trash. And just because someone can't do better, doesn't mean they can't recognize what's good and what's not. This art and the art in War of the Realms is trash. If you want good artwork in a Thor comic, look no further than the run from 2007 through 2009ish. That is the benchmark every Thor artist should aspire to. Not this cartoonish, distorted trash.
klx Actually Thor is more powerful in base, without Odinforce and I believe he is stronger now than Odin was at the time he was Thor’s age. And Thor with the Odin force is more powerful than Odin with the odinforce.
Even a drunk out of his mind Odin shouldnt be trashed by the weakest version of thor we have ever seen thanks to Aaron..this man hates Odin a great deal..he just doesn't let up on him. What good are his inner thoughts about thor if he sprews the opposite to thors face..guess this is Aarons take on fathers and sons..hey guys who had awful dads..he loves you as he is belittling you and calling you scum. What do you wanna bet he wouldn't portray females and mothers like that in asgard.
@Zandris Hugal And yet he has thor still reliant upon hammers and he gets trashed in fights without them ignoring that thor is comparable to superman in strength and durability but he can't do anything in a fight if he can't hit it with a hammer..come on. The mcu gave us a glimpse of what thor can do with his own might/powers without a hammer in ragnarok and while this is the comics and not the mcu its bad when a movie based off the comic book portrays thor better when he doesn't have his hammer. Its just bad period.
And why did Thor use only one Golden Hammer in the Avengers Comics and he uses everything but they Hammer in his comic. And didn’t he have Mjolnir again in one comic. God he is also impotent for no reason...
Odin was abusive only during Jason Aaron's run..Anyone that has read Thor Disassembled and Fear Itself would know how much Odin loved Thor..In fact Odin loved all of his children even the evil Loki, he loved his wife and he loved his people...When Thor became the Rune King and gained omniscience he finally understood the pain Odin had to endure, to see his kin dying and coming back to life only to die again; the ragnarok cycle..Thor finally understood that everything he went through, every punishment he received from Odin, every moment he lived with him lead to the Final Ragnarok..All Odin ever wanted was to make Thor the greatest god and most importantly the greatest man.. Also in fear itself, Odin was ready to kill everyone on Earth infected by The Serpent to prevent Thor's fate..He said that he would destroy a planet, a galaxy or all of reality if he was to save Thor...
Odinforce being depleted makes no sense. You forgot the part where Thor was born in Asgard which retcons his birth place being Earth. Good video alway..
@@ThorTalk that's true but he was sober when he created a cave and sober when he made love with Gaea and sober when he was born in Chapter 300. Plus, he remembers that Gods told him he was born in Asgard's hall and remembers stuff from million years ago. It kinda tells me it's a retcon.
In my boo, this is a different universe to classic Marvel. Metatextually, it has been since more or less bendis era (not just due to bendis, this merely to identify the period). But since battleworld, its in and out of story the same universe in name only. Marvel has pulled a DC reboot and just keeps a poor veneer that "not really", but really yes. If we were to list character personality and backstory reboots, hard or soft, we would live here.
Doesn't Odin subsist exclusively on wine, beer, or mead in old Norse myths depending on the translation? Isn't raucous drinking the *FIRST* you think of when of when you think of Valhalla? Why is alcohol abuse an issue for those who walk in eternity all of a sudden? Damned "Realism" deconstructions ruining the fun of fantasy...
This is Fucking ridiculous! Does Marvel not realize that Jason Aaron's writing is purposely slanderous against THOR & ODIN! Can someone tell me why the guy that writes THOR and specifically ODIN, writes them like they're 2 new age millennial, "powerful victim liberals"? When ODIN the ALLFATHER & THOR the God of Thunder (2 NORSE gods of War & Death) spend their dialogue crying to each other about their childhoods, there will be no need for RAGNAROK! It won't take Jotuns/Giants to defeat those two Sissies! 😐😯😑😒😕🙁😔😟☹😱
Childish tales written for juveniles. I'm sorry. What is the lifespan of Gods and what is that of humans. Gods are supposed to live at least 100 times longer than humans. What could Stark tell Odin that is worth knowing.
In reality, Odin has always been a pretty awful parent. Even in the old myths. It's just a matter of how much he's trying to do better (like the MCU) or doesn't give a crap (like with some comics.)
@fish of madagascar Once he had sacrificed his eye to Mimir's well, he knew who would die and how and thus allowed stuff like the death of his son Baldr to happen. That there is an example of neglect at least. I'm not saying he didn't care about his family, I'm saying that Odin was someone so consumed in paranoia and so desparate to amass more power and wisdom for himself that it trumped any love he had for his family.
@@ungreatfulduck750 Even if it was to teach Thor humility (which was very necessary in his early years), taking away Thor's identity the way he did was still rather messed up. The Complete Bullshit at the highest level. Odin the fucking All Father having alcohol addiction. Asking mortal Tony Stark for help. The same Tony Stark whom he scolded and showed the vast universe and how Tony was just a speck in a vast universe. Odin The all father talking about being abused by his dad a freaking high God with so much wisdom and yet doesn't know how to be a father. ODIN the man who made thor the man he is today by showing him benevolence and making him human so he can learn this. It's as if the forgot who or even what Odin is. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE ALL FATHER IS THIS TRASH OF A STORY. it blows my mind how much the ruin Odin and thor in the last 4-5 years.
He literally destroyed odin and thor. He always tried to better thor by teching him humility and letting him be free, odin was op but now he was made a fucking drunk bum. Odin was the best all father coz he put thor and asgard first then he put himself second
I like this story because it's Thor becoming his own man... Again. I like seeing him not just being his father's son, but being his own man. I'd like to see him have his own son to raise someday. But Odin saying that he was jealous of Thor and that's why he was sent to Earth is ridiculous, that takes away from Thor's character.
The odin Thor father son issues are and have allways been part of the roots of the tail weather it's this wrighter or stand lee and jack kirbie or an old man at a campfire was the new wrighter harsh maybe but you shouldn't lose sight of the roots how does one tell his son he,s fated to die to slay one of the worlds great titanic beings look at the poetic edda and Thor slew the midgard serpent onley to fall to midgard and take nine steps back to fall dead himself now my words are not the poetry of the edda but the base meaning is there that info alone would be a hard pill to swallow or to tell ones son no parent wants to see there child die even if it is in a most glorious way defeating a being that would gladly exterminate all life just to grow a bit fatter
Let's be honest. Aaron is not really a bad writer like yall made him to be. Aaron is writing a Thor who face challenges in life. Even gods must face their darkest days in life. Who remembers when Hercules was depowered for long? Who remember when Hulk was depowered for a shot period? Who remember when wolverine lost his healing factor and other powers? Those are challenges they face everyday in life. It's realistic if you ask me. Thor will get back his bearing in war of the realms. Soon, he'll reclaim is hammer at full power, so don't panic.
Jason has been writing Thor for the last few years and The writing is still mediocre. Bad enough he gave the hammer to Jane, but now this abusive nonsense with Odin. It is hard to stay patient wuth a writer who has not written a consistently good Thor is Fucking years!
It's okay to make a character struggle and weaken them for a time. It's not okay to retcon so much established history. Either Aaron's run is a complete retcon of Thor and the Asgardians or his run should be disregarded in the continuity. I'm for the latter as the retcons he's made are terrible in most cases.

It makes me wonder if Aaron is projecting his daddy issues or just pandering to the depressed youths, like how Jane Foster was blatant pandering.
Odin was never cruel, or abusive. He may be tough, but he is fair, patient and always loved thor. If odin or thor met Jason Aaron, they would bitch slap him for writing odin to be a drunk stubborn and abusive asshole.
Love the dramatic voices.
Plss I will be so happy if someone answer my question.. When does Jason Aaron contract with marvel expire.. Or how does it work?
His Thor run is finally coming to an end. Sadly he's probably going to go ruin the avengers now.
Sounds like Jason has some unresolved daddy issues...not Odin.
All hail the Great Wolf!!!!!
FENRIR!!!!! Devour of the Alll Father!!!!!!!!
More like the devour of drunk dads
Vlkar fenryka
IVAR the Boneless
Enough said......🎃🎃🎃🎃
He only lost because he was drunk
Rom The Space Knight lol
let me just say this...THIS ISSUE WAS HORSE SHIT! who made odin an asshole and a loser of a father?? it wasn't STAN LEE. it wasn't WALTER SIMONSON. the first time i remember odin being a jerk and a loser was MATT FRACTION'S run. that's when i first noticed thor talking back to odin and both of them fighting!
Thor the god of hammers and Odin the drunk all father. What the hell are you doing Aaron?!
This guy just don’t like Thor. Made him weak compared to old incarnations as well
I hate Jason Arron for turning Odin evil
Great video. You know what’s upsetting? I just looked and this issue is receiving 95% ratings and 10/10 on comic rating sources. Idk how you can be an avid comic/Thor fan and not have this issue irritate you because they’ve now retconned the hell out of Odin. Disappointing.
Like you said the story works as What if? story or a complete re-boot .....other than that it just seems like a therapy session with Asgardian gods thrown in
Jason Aaron is mad. I really don't understand what he's trying to do. This Isn't Odin.
During fear itself Odin was acting that way because he knew Thor was to die fighting serpent and he wanted to prevent it
@@logandelaharpe6362 and yet, even before that he was still acting like that. We both know dead to this guys isn’t something that sticks, Odín himself has been brought several times. And when he came back, he had issues with Thor doing it, and going as far as threatening Loki.
@@logandelaharpe6362 I’m using Fear Itself as a timerange, not the events themselves. Just read the world seed and you will see what I mean.
Jason proves time and time again he is a trash author and RUINING THOR! Marvel needs to fire this pos ASAP! In addition, the art is awful.
I'll give him props for making Old King Phoenix Thor, Necro Loki, old man Phoenix Wolverine, and Doom but other the that to hell with Jason
I hate how weak he made the highest level skyfather look
Really? The all father get his ass kick by thor? Odin is much more powerful than thor and odin has the odin force. Wtf jason....
klx Actually Thor is more powerful in base, without Odinforce and I believe he is stronger now than Odin was at the time he was Thor’s age.
Is it still cannon that Thor's birth mother is Gaea (Mother Earth)?
And why did Thor use only one Golden Hammer in the Avengers Comics and he uses everything but they Hammer in his comic. And didn’t he have Mjolnir again in one comic. God he is also impotent for no reason...
In this comic Odin was controlled by Loki as he was doing opposite of what he was thinking
Pitty odin
Dis is good
So now Odin is an abusive, alcoholic bum who is not even a shadow of his former self. Way to ruin a legendary character Marvel!
Wow
True that Jason Aaron's writing would've worked with Zeus and Hercules. Turning Odin into an abusive old man? This is just so low.
Father and i would never fight
tHE ART IS HORRIBLE. Now we have a whole comic dedicated to Odin being an alcoholic. This is beyond stupid.
I left that out because Odin isn’t even sure, so I don’t think there’s enough for it to count as a retcon.
@@tomislavpoje2159 odin is too drunk to think
@@brothersofwrath4785 he literally remembers something from millions of years ago so...
Thor's birth was the most important thing to him.
@@tomislavpoje2159 odin: i never saw my son's birth. If I did I am to drunk to think
That....is most certainly not the Odin I know.
Ruined thor and now odin....zzzzzz
That was years of his life he'll never get back. It may not mean much on the grand scope of a god's life span. But Odin still chose to do this.
@@ungreatfulduck750
I couldn't agree with you more; these Johnny-Come-Lately credulous fans need to stop viewing Thor anachronistically and WAKE UP.
@@ungreatfulduck750 I was aware of that. I also had read Simonson's run where he did something similar to all the Nine Realms and his sons. Odin is a complicated character in both the old myths and the comics. I appreciate the attempt at fleshing out his character more. There's also something to be said about the number of characters in this medium that have daddy issues. I'm not saying he's like God of War's Odin, a paranoid murderous asshole who would strangle his own friends to get what he wants.
@@ungreatfulduck750 I haven't bought a Thor comic since Aaron gave Mjolnir to Jane, so I'm not here to comment on any specific narrative or story, but the last time I did was Aaron's run on Thor, and while it was entertaining in parts I just noticed that he (and Marvel writers in general) wants to tell a human story using mythological/magical/superhuman characters. I think Aaron mostly built his run off of Matt Fraction's previous work. Fraction sort of turned Thor and Odin into brutish and thuggish boors with deep issues, whereas JMS' Thor was a modernized take on classical Thor. Similar proper speech pattern (not quite Shakespearean though), quite powerful and examining the meaning of Asgardian godhood among humans. Only issue I had was bringing Asgard to Oklahoma at the time, though we'll never know how JMS would have concluded his run and where he would've taken Thor afterward.
* It's also how i feel about Aaron's Thanos Rising story.
Jason Aaron is destroying Thor , And this is why I am no longer reading this book
Aaaaah i hate Aaron , Jason is ruining my fav character those stupid people who chose him he is terrible we need someone who sees how thor is a guy with who can destroy planets with his fists
The storyline is laughable ... More Social Justice politics inserted into well-loved characters
😂😂😂Odin's written into being an alcoholic👌👎 The writer took this down a BS road.
Well but i hate odin I really did I agree that he wasn’t alcoholism but he was a bad father always turn against his children
Aaron sucks...
OT tough love
He literally destroyed odin and thor. He always tried to better thor by teching him humility and letting him be free, odin was op but now he was made a fucking drunk bum. Odin was the best all father coz he put thor and asgard first then he put himself second
This is 🚮🤣, 🔥 Jason man
I like this story because it's Thor becoming his own man...
Seriously? Alcoholism? This is Odin Allfather. Not some secondary character. I'm so sick of this clown ruining the mighty Asgardians.
I loved this issue.
This issue was bulsshit
Is it me or thor is turning into a SJW series??
total trash. felt like alternate violent fantasy characters. I saved a lot of money during this run.
They need to sack the writer of this trash
Sounds to me like people can't accept change well...
Look, ima be real wit u. Your videos are great but your voice is way too light to voice Odin
Why not just talk regular.?Your voice is not trained to narrate..Kinda irritating..honestly
@@tayojones9460 the only amazing comic run Aaron did was Thor God of thunder when he fought gorr
@@tayojones9460 I'm sure Aaron has a plan for Thor in war of the realm.
Dude stop protecting this soy boy
It's okay to make a character struggle and weaken them for a time. It's not okay to retcon so much established history. Either Aaron's run is a complete retcon of Thor and the Asgardians or his run should be disregarded in the continuity. I'm for the latter as the retcons he's made are terrible in most cases.
Odin Is a trash demi god.
