Immortal Thor #8: Thor vs Gaea

- God of Thunder faces the Goddess of the Earth. Thor faces Gaea. Son faces mother. Gaea has unleashed the elder gods upon the earth and its inhabitants. Thor barely managed to drive off one of them, but he must know why his mother has done this. He’s not met with the kind mother he’s familiar with, but with the embodiment of the crueler side of nature. As cruel as the truth may be, Thor must hear it.

I loved the moment gaea said " i did give them a chance, i gave them you thor"
Such a cool moment
Thanks my asgardian friend for the mention, I appreciate
Gracias mi amigo asgardiano por la mención, lo aprecio mucho
That was hilarious and unexpected 16:53
I couldn’t resist
If there is a bull god with utgard Loki, maybe it’s the Minotaur himself, or connected to the Minotaur
Oh maybe! I don’t think it ever says which god granted him his Minotaur form, we just see a statue and hear that a god granted him that form. That would be cool.
Man so this confirms buri is also an elder god
which means thor is elder god on both sides
Wow has Gaea ever looked like that before in comics? In the game Lords of the Fallen (the 2023 one) there’s an npc called Sparky who is essentially an elder god and his look is eerily similar to Gaea in this issue.
We don’t really see her much, but no, not to my knowledge. We didn’t really ever see any feats of power from her .
How she got Odin to sire a child with her? Lol
no. gaea has always been shown as a benevolent elder god, same as osthur
@@xoradivided7950 - Gaea doesn't seem all that benevolent here.
@@matthewschwartz6607 probably just a form of her.
Gonna be awesome when Thor and his grandpa are standing side by side against some evil bastards.
This would be a great time to bring back Rune King Thor to kick some elder gods asses once again.
GREAT grandpa...Tiwaz is Odin's grandfather. hoo ha!!
I was reading this and twirling the mustache like *Aye Gaia got a point* 😅
so Thor's great grandfather Buri (TIWAZ) is also an elder god??
Yes
And seems to be his mother's brother😂
Sweet home azgard
good catch! I wondered myself
Aren’t Atum (The God Eater.) and Thor related?
Wow this was a epic overview of that book and I don't even read the comics but I love Marvel Thor!🤩🤩🤩
Atum..... bares much similarity to what we called The Enigma Force and one aspect of The Enigma Force is The Uni Power the energy that transforms people into Captain Universe so YEAH I can see why Gaia would not want Thor to face something on such an incomprehensible scale of power.
How would Cosmic King Thor Fare against it? He was very Powerful
except thor has faced atum before in his own domain and actually held his own
I like how Ewing usually opens these with quotes from old classic poets.
You do a marvelous job on this channel!
Thank you
Ditto.
Gracias por recomendar el canal
Amazing video! I can’t wait to see thor confronting other elder gods
I’m excited for it too
That T. Swift comment got me rolling lol
10:33 this is good. Of course, lightning is the very essence of the sun if we consider the electric universe theory. I hope comic book writers just for interesting comic book logic incorporate that more comic writers and editors, can learn a lot from TH-camrs.
I’ll give Al Ewing credit: the only comic books I ever bought in the last four years has been his immortal hulk and now will add his immortal Thor to that.
And it looks like he’s trying to tie down threads that he laid with the Immortal Hulk. “Howl thru many Mouths?” Where have we heard that from b4?
Amazing as always. 🔥🔥🔥
Nice, really enjoyed this episode!
Toranos didn't kill the dinosaurs in Marvel!! They all got Killed by Atum because they'd fallen under the thrall of Set!
I don’t think Gaea means that it was Toranos that did it, just that she has allowed the population of the earth to be wiped out before
At least this issue erases that ridiculous retcon by Jason Aaron, which made the Phoenix force as Thor’s mother.
The art is splendid, but Ewing is too slow to develop his story.
I am The NashVillain. The AllFather ODIN is the best mythological deity & GUNGNIR is the best weapon via any mythos.
I hate what Marvel has allowed be done unto ODIN over the last nigh 2 decades
Who else want thor vs atum ?
Or Set? He fought their pantheon( This Version of Thor which is Odin Force Thor though with Less Of) in Thor Volume 3 The Hand of Grog.
I much rather see them fighting side by side. Brother and brother defending MOM.
@@bobbolan4672 they are not brother by love .. i,d like to see a brawl
TIWAZ IS AN ELDER GOD! BURI IS AN ELDER GOD!
More proof that ODIN should be at his Silver Age of comics power levels. ODIN better come back with a Vengeance
Yes.
Always look foward to these
Me too
I concur completely
There was a news that Thor 5 has got a release date at marvel studios.is that true?
Thor being Gaea’s mercy to me sort of mirrors the hulk being TOAA’s rage. Thor’s role is sort of approaching that Superman role of the embodiment of Hope.
Awesome issue made better by your recital. Who's stronger If anyone knows Gaea or Odin?? Also any explanation as to why Thor shows no physical traits from Gaea?? Thanks as always for the vids.
Hard to say, in the older comics they were fairly equal, Odin was probably more powerful, but mostly because you didn't see a lot of feats from Gaea. However in more modern comics Odin's power had really been watered down to where he wasn't nearly as omnipotent as he used to be. I would assume under the current writing Gaea is more powerful as she is listed as an elder god and odin is not.
Gaea is shapeshifter. So I guess children looks mostly like father
Gaea
By feats Odin is more powerful but well that's in the old days, nowadays he's just a weak oldman but since elder gods are said to be powerful than skyfather such as odin and zeus, gaea might be more powerful
Silver Age Odin was a top 10 most powerful character in the entire Marvel Universe. ODIN should always be in the top 10.
It's sad what Marvel has allowed modern writers to do to the hierarchy over the last 20 years.
Yo bro, good to see you back and uploading Thor content.
Since you were out for some time, thought some unfortunate event might have fallen to you but glad that doesn't seem the case anymore.
Anyhow, keep it up bro 👍
Nergal has already been in the comics in Marvel universe in Doc Strange and Conan.
Wasn’t Atum a member of Hercules team in The Incredible Hercules series?…along side Amedeus Cho Aztec Mikaboshi(Chaos King in disguise)and of course Hercules himself . If it is him, he got all ate up by Mikaboshi 😅 forgot what issue it is though.
He survived. In 2018 comic run of Moon Knight he apeered still alive and.. let his son on fire
They really need to bring Buri back from Oblivion to humble them all with his wisdom. *edit* They are bringing Buri back.
buri is not in oblivion (not literally) beside he is referenced here as one of the elder gods. he is tiwaz
@@Tecnofanb0y Yes, i know he is Tiwaz. Was referring to comic book oblivion (since he is not used often). The comic book where he nurtured Thor back to health, tho old as old gets, is still one of the best out there. They really need to bring him back.
They also need to bring back Rune King Thor for this series.
Thanks for the great review and sharing your thoughts about the issue and portrayal of Gaea being jarring. Recently they took Odin who was always wise and very loving, and made him into a terrible guy in general, and abusive husband and terrible father. Now it feels like the "divine feminine" is under attack, physically and emotionally and spiritually/energetically. I like how Gaea said Thor is her mercy, but the way it was done felt in a negative way, like you're a failure at this or too bad type of attitude, instead of presenting this cool factor in an optimistic or bright manner.
Jason Aaron is a horrible writer, dude took his father issues, projected it unto Odin and butchered his character and the entire Asgardian lore
Nice job 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks
among us god boutta go hard
i dont think comics have to be similar to our world, it propably would be for the best to give the civilians more and more advanced tech over time like we see in other series
Well that’s easier said than done. If Ewing was writing a contained series then it would be doable, but any changes to the status quo affect all the other comics and all the other writers. Any big change like that will probably get undone pretty soon after as well if it happens at all. The comic book status quo is hard to fight.
@@ThorTalktrue but i think they could write intresting new stories instead of most stories being a copy of old ones if they did small changes to the setting
@@Dimitriterrorman there is nothing new under the sun. & tht statement was true when it was written 2000 yrs ago. Thts not how we humans work.
Gaia Nolan kenjaku and uxas would be great friends frl
Dude, bent the knee 😂
Wasn’t Gaea supposed to have a part in that Empyre storyline from a few years ago ? She was captured or something (I believe .). Isn’t Atum supposed to be dead, too?
About Gaea I dunno. Abou Atum he apeered in Moon Knight comic in 2018 in his Ra form. He is not dead
@@clumsylemon430 - Can you tell me the Moon Knight comic? Was this the Jed Mckay (Spelling.) run? And this is Atum, the God Eater? Did they explain how he came back from Thor killing him?
Hercules restored the universe and the gods.
I really like this run but I do hate how the constant 'but wait, there is an even MORE powerful being' thing has undercut prior stories. Where were all these elder gods before? We used to have definitive lists of how many there were, their relationships to each other... now you might as well say Thor is Loki's father by Hel. Maybe it was always this bad but lately it just seems they have completely given up writing inside the lines of a given character. I do like the art quite a bit. Swampy Gaea is fun.
Is Gaia cruel or are we cruel for living off of her while destroying her? I think your perspective is incredibly off.
Cruel is benefiting off of another while harming them… not that person defending themselves. The audacity it takes to ignore the dynamic present by considering Gaia as the villain as you breathe clean air and drink clean water that she provides. It’s very egocentric…
Humanity is definitely in the wrong with how they arrogantly use earth and Gaea is absolutely in the right for sticking up for herself. Even Thor doesn’t disagree with her assessment, his problem is that it lacks mercy and is therefore cruel. She does not give them a chance to change their ways and instead decides to immediately wipe out every man, woman, and child without warning.
I am your child, response: i have many children 😂😂😂
Another Loki? Weird
6:20-6:40- OUCH!
16:53-🤭
Speaking of, whatever happened to Set anyway?
Not liking all these retcons of the Elder Gods and pantheons one bit. Ewing decided to introduce a previously "unseen" Elder God based on the Celtic thundergod- seemingly unaware that it had been done already. If Marvel had editors that could do their job this wouldn't be happening.
Thank you for the video and your thoughtful analysis. I miss Coccolo’s art, but the new artist is great too. Unfortunately, I disagree on the plot and feel this issue is the worst so far. The biggest reason why is Al Ewing’s choice for Gaea’s motives and actions feels painfully cliche, but worse it makes her look stupid and excessively heartless.
See, if Gaea wants Humanity to change its ways, or at least go green, she picked the absolute worst way to do it. How can Humanity change their ways if they’re being destroyed by Godzilla-sized elder gods like Toranos rampaging and massacring people by the hundreds of thousands, or causing other world-ending catastrophes? Not to mention, the Utgard gods could turn on her. Don’t tell me Utgard-Loki doesn’t have something cooked up just for her as payback.
But on top of that, why would she think this plan would work? She’s more than aware that humanity endures countless world-ending threats from super-villains, demons, killer AI, aliens, other elder gods, etc. and yet humans pretty much always stay the same afterward. So, why would she think another batch of evil elder gods would do the trick? She wouldn’t.
If Gaea really wanted humanity to go green, she would’ve come up with something much better and certainly less genocidal. I just feel this was a cheap move by Al Ewing to artificially set up his next big story event with Thor and The Minotaur.
Sorry for the long rant, but I was really looking forward to this issue and was greatly disappointed. Al Ewing could’ve done MUCH BETTER than this. Hopefully the next few issues make up for this one.
Another great issue, and another great look at it!
Small nitpick, sorta I would say Thor can win against the Earth itself, but not Gaea, if we nake the split between the planet and the goddess (hence sorta nitpick, cause I don't think you meant this way). Marvel usually doesn't lionize and dissect Thor's powers as much as the competition does to their heroes, but there is plenty to believe Thor could explode the planet if he really wanted. So technically, he could win against the Earth itself.
"Tiwaz was there when earth was formed"!! What?? They'venot already destroyed Avengers and X-men continuity with Avengers BC and Krakoa- now 60 years of Thor continuity is unconnected gibberish too.
Odin controls the worthiness enchantment not thor. Otherwise then only A God sbove the enchantment could control it.
Thor now controls the enchantment after becoming All-Father as it’s specifically stated in Immortal Thor #1 and further demonstrated in issue 5
@@ThorTalk ok. Well that makes sense now
I don't think he's pronouncing the names correctly. He's applying foreign vowel sounds to the English that was used to represent foreign names. So you should pronounce them as an English speaker would, not how a foreigner would. "Horoos" and "Atoom" is irritating as hell to have to hear over and over again.
Gay voice can't listen
No need to be a dickhead about it lol
I uh- I’ve never heard that one before so I’m not really sure what to do about that. Maybe mute it and turn on subtitles?
@@ThorTalkyou don't sound gay dude. You're just young. You have a great channel. Keep making great content.
