Nice day time fishing session. Try not to pick the hounds up by the tail though. Lifting out the bag. Might try a dongle rig for prawn. I only use single hooks.
Nice session on the hounds fella. Stick with the dongle set up bud it’s all I use in South Wales for my ray and hound fishing. Much less chance of deep hooking a fish which has got to be good. Also as you said you don’t strike with circle hooks just wind in any slack and lean back into the fish when you feel the weight. Great video and thanks for sharing
daft question time from a noob, shore crab, are they just the ones you catch when you go crabbing with the kids at hamble marina etc, great session there mate, cant wait to build the knowledge you guys have so i get a better catch rate, but either way i love being out there and trying
Yeah there the ones! I normally aim to get the ones which are about the same size as a 50p, they seem to be ideal for the smoothounds as they don’t have massive mouths
Nice video and good to see a few hounds. With the dongle rig and circle hook you need to just nick the hook into the very end of the prawn. Circles need the hook point to be really exposed and the hook reasonably free to turn around in order to get a good hookup. Then just lift into the bite, no need to strike.
Well done mate on another decent session, good to see Sandy Point still producing gonna go over there next thursday afternoon I think or earlier in the week if this load of crappy weather goes past faster than expected
Hi, great video, I just getting back into sea fishing and I’m looking for places to fish so if you have some recommendations that would be appreciated, where do you park for this spot that your fishing in this video? TIA Andy.
Well done Dan Nice to see you trying dongle, I've used them for 3 years for all my bass and pike deadbaiting with great results, but it is better not to strike, and leave a lot of point showing, were you using a loop knot because this helps a lot with hook turn.
As a general rule the circle hook should be 2 sizes bigger than the J hook you would have used. Try 4/0 or bigger. Some baits are better suited than others. It was me that you fished with at sandy point on monday you were right weed got worse !!!!
Similar to how I thought I just see a guy in the US who halves n quarters em and although it's a tempting bait it just goes to quickly and you end up with nout but shell so interesting to know I can walk a full one on, circle hook or long shank?

Yeah I’ve learnt the hard way 🤣 getting used to the dongle now and loving it!

Well done, buddy
Thank you!
Well done 🦈🦈🎣
Thank you!
Nice of that mini yacht to give you plenty of room 😮
I laughed at that too😂
yachts + dogs !
I know right! Luckily it’s deep and the lines go almost straight in the water at the edge of the water

Don't strike!! Ever when using circle hook...
Thank you! Starting to get used to them more now with better results 😎
Well done again Dan
Cheers Peter!
Nice catches, have you caught many other species of fish on prawn ?
Yeah, I’ve caught bass, congers, dog fish and hounds. Apparently they are good for rays, but in yet to catch one on prawn
Well done mate on another decent session, good to see Sandy Point still producing gonna go over there next thursday afternoon I think or earlier in the week if this load of crappy weather goes past faster than expected
Cheers mate, how did you get on?! I fished sandy point Monday and had 3 small ones, still struggling to find a decent one!
@@SouthCoastDangler didnt get the chance to get out earlier , still planning on trying tomorrow (thursday) afternoon

Hi mate, thank you for watching! I park along wittering road near the marina end, there is a row of parking next to some trees and then walk round
Well done Dan with circle hooks just tighten down on fish dont strike
Cheers Gary!

Thank you! Yes it’s a perfection loops knot

Nice vid mate , I had my best hound at 17lb on prawn down chilling beach Warsash few years back.
That’s a cracking fish! I’ve caught plenty of hounds this year but can’t find the big ones 🤣
@SouthCoastDangler your get one bro , I have faith 🙏 lol
Those boats look a bit close for comfort 🙈
It’s not too bad as your line goes straight down almost at the waters edge where it is so deep
Fishing sandy point its a nice place but the weed is a big problem 🙈
Not if you get the tides right, has to be fished from low water up on a neap tide
@@SouthCoastDangler thanks for the heads up 👍
I live hayling and want to start fishing. Fancy some company
Was that a hard shell crab 🦀? How do you put em on the hook 🪝
Yes mate, I just take of the back 2 legs and thread the hook through one socket and out the other and then whip the legs and crab onto the hook
Similar to how I thought I just see a guy in the US who halves n quarters em and although it's a tempting bait it just goes to quickly and you end up with nout but shell so interesting to know I can walk a full one on, circle hook or long shank?
I use 3/0 cox and rawle crab hooks, they are perfect 😎
Mr d, t knows what you were plotting against him
Where do you get your prawns from ?
Sainsbury’s, but it is cheaper to get them from an oriental supermarket apparently 🤷♂️
Raw shell on jumbo king prawns ??
