  • Andy tackles a local small stream, hoping to utilise euro nymphing techniques for grayling. Winter grayling fishing is a great way to keep yourself on the water through the colder months, and european style nymphing techniques will keep you on the fish better than most other methods. If you're wondering how to catch grayling then Andy will help to show you how! UK fly fishing is dominated by grayling in the winter months, but winter fly fishing can be challenging, so euro nymphing techniques can be a real game changer. Small stream grayling can me spooky and hard to catch, but euro nymphing might give you the critical advantage. Enjoy: Small Stream Grayling Euro Nymphing

    I have take fly fishing back up in January this year after taking it up as a teenager and having my great grandfathers rod thrown out by mistake, killing my passion for it back then. 2 months later I had all my kit and tools in the van stolen, £3000 worth of fly fishing kit alone. I rebuilt and hit the hobby hard.I have made immense progress and amassed some awesome kit and loved every second of the hobby. Being self employed and getting lots of time off really helps. But it also is a huge credit to you mate. These videos are really honest and real and just fantastic. Even a main member of my chalk stream fishing club recommends your videos and your flies. I have bought a good few quids worth this year and they are working beautifully. Beautifully tied too. You and IB are a joy to watch and a huge inspiration in my journey, and honestly I don't comment on much ever. But I thought id quite like to ket you know. I am very lucky with the ability to hire good guides and practice a lot. But I Utilise every avenue to learn and the books, DVDs, forums and TH-cam are a great way for me to process all the information I need and I can absorb the information well. But nothing works better than a person who you click with in their teaching style and you guys tick those boxes and have been awesome to follow. Thanks

    I took up fly fishing at the beginning of this season then found out there's a close. I used to go after work, before work, Sundays with my son. When I was teaching myself I literally fished until it was too dark to see but having seen naked nymph videos I thought man doesn't need to see, sat down on the bank of the tiny brook i was fishing, reeled all my fly line in so the leader was on the last eye and decided to see if I could feel vibrations at the rod tip as I dragged across the bottom and I could. I Raised my rod a few inches, drifted and managed to catch by feel. Going from that to now being sat around watching YT fly fishing videos is killing me . I NEED to be on a river or stream somewhere 😂

    Great fishing Andy, good to see some of the bigger Grayling coming out of there! - I've recently moved from quite a thick french leader to a full spanish/mono rig, but I'm not enjoying it as much, my casting and accuracy took a big hit. Those 15m French Leaders you're using now seem interesting though!

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The mono rig really does take some figuring out, I've tried it with clients and had exactly the same result as you've found, it's not as forgiving as the French leader in my opinion 👍

    Hi Andy. Great to see you on the water again. I was interested how you changed quickly from one fly to two. Did you just tie the deep purple onto the bend of the baby pink or did you do something else ?

      Hi Geoff, I'm rigged up with a tippet ring, I can either hang one dropper off this ring, or one shorter dropper and one longer point fly dropper, it's really versatile

  • @PhilWilkins-lm2jv
    @PhilWilkins-lm2jv 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi Andy. Another really great video with loads of pointers for me. Re-inforces lots of things I think I should do but don’t.
    I should use a single fly far more particularly in clear water (and definitely more often in shallower runs).
    I need to use my 6x tippet that I use during lower levels in summer.
    I need to spend more time in the kind of water that was productive for you and identify the places where the depth changes rather than those faster runs that always grab my attention.
    I need to get back to drifting my flies more slowly and watching the sighter. Earlier in the year I had more success leading / “pulling” my flies through the faster stuff with the point fly tapping bottom constantly. It’s not really worked recently when the Dove has actually been right and I’ve been able to get to it.
    Looking forward to the next video. Tight lines.👍

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Phil! I think the important thing is that both of those things can be right (and wrong) at different times of year, or even day. I do find at this time of year they're not willing to sit in the faster stuff, there just isn't the quantity of food coming down. All about figuring it out in the day I reckon 👍

    Hi Andy. Great video as usual! Hope the weather picks up and you can get guiding again ASAP.
    Is that 15m French leader a real advance? The 0.18 mm Spanish leaders are not that easy to cast, and I wonder if a tiny bit of sag with a long tapered French leader when casting more or less upstream on a narrow UK river would be helpful in bite detection, compared to a taut Spanish leader?

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Kerry, there's a real can of worms here regarding sag and bit detection. I've heard it agued that the slightest bit of sag (such as a french leader) will effect your ability to "feel" takes in comparison to a french leader. My issue with this is that we're not really trying to feel for takes, so this doesn't make as much sense to me. Lots of different wakes of skinning this cat, I don't think there's a right answer

    Hi Andy, thanks for this video. It reminds me of a local spot on the Frome that is a go to after heavy rain…. at the start of the video, you mentioned your new pack and that the leader you use tapers write down .. for the last couple of years, I have favoured a straight mono leader about 10 m and then the taper comes from the bicolour indicator, and then the Tippit section itself.… So here’s the question at last… Do you see many advantage in the gradual taper of your euro leader over a straight mono line? Many thanks in advance John.

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi John, great question! I use both styles, either a french leader or a mono rig with 0.6 Sempe. I do find that most folk who are new to this style of fishing get on better with the french leader - it's easier to handle, a bit less rod-tip tangly, and when using lighter flies or even a dry, it turns over better for having that taper. That said, if I'm fishing skinny water and a single nymph or pair of tiny nymphs, I do like to touch of the mono rig. I think they're both got a place

      Hi Andy, thanks for coming back to me, it’s not like I’m able to get on the river at the moment anyway. It’s underwater the fields are like lakes and the river is hard to find. I imagine it’s the same all over the country

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm sure it will, it really does require a specialist rod! I will say though, I detect almost none of my takes through feel, you shouldn't be fishing to feel really, that indicator in the air is gonna tell you what's happening 👍

    • @waltgrisly509
      @waltgrisly509 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@IBandAndyFishing do you think I need special nymphs too? My standard nymphs seem to have only very small beads, perhaps less than 2,5mm.

      @IBandAndyFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn't say special necessarily no, but having different weights of a few flies you really trust is important. It'll give you more options to fish higher or lower in the water column, and in different water speeds 👍
