I liked how you used the floor beams for the roof rafters. Not seen that before, seems to be a good idea.

This is unbelievable!!! That cabin really is wonderful. When he said, 'One slip away from death!', it hit hard! No hiring a contractor and relaxing for him!!! I suppose his wife knows better than to request that he does not go on a roof or put himself in danger in such ways! She must pray and give it to God!!! Lol!! Many prayers for blessings and prosperity for this beautiful family. ❤

What about a vapor barrier for the loft ceiling? Your exterior sheeting is going to mold and rot.

I guess you'll level it again after the thaw. I can't see hanging ibeams on osb for a rim joist for hangers.

the hangers are not on OSB, I forget what the material is called but its engineered differently to support a lot more weight

Greets and love from Hamburg in Germany. I am a faclity manager with carpenter backround 30 years work also as a building expert. Traditionell cabin builds are my hobby. My grandfather had build one log ong log on a stone wall its near by 100 years young. Another cabion of another family brand has one cabin more the 250 years old. They produced"coals" by burnning hardwood.
There are some basics in "how und where to build a cabin" for a looooong live. 1: Allways take down trees around the cabin. Shadows produce high moysture because the sun cant dry the walls. Sun and wind are protectors of a cabin even like yours that is not build traditionell but fast easy and with much fake wood and fake insolation.
2: Trees are streets for mices and insects. They will infiltrade fast and they can invade your cabin.
Also stormy winds can harm a cabin thorugh trees. Fire? Off course.
Sun in winter creates also a peace of energy to warm up. We love shutters. They are also a protection from cold bearproofe- they also ceep the cold outside because cold presses thorugh the windows. If you have the extra $$$ instales hutters. They are also storm security and fire protec. when fire storms throw burining sticks into the windows.
Off course a mud room is a must have its a barrier for the temps.
Buy big fire disting. 3 or more and protect them from heat or cold they will not work in times of need.

thanks for the imput on the cabin, We will propbaby have to take the cabin down after we are done mining and my father-in-law likes that the trees hide the cabin. Its functional for what we need, if i get my way the trees will come down around the cabin, but that will probably be a few years down the road

@@HowtoAlaska Hide the cabin? As a kid I was in the boy scouts. Later in the Army. The trees hide nothing. Hiding from a bear or a cow? or a horse or bird? If the oven is smoking you can smell the cabin 2 miles. If its light on you see it 2 miles I can see the cabin from all places because of the form. The cabin can rotten much faster. Hinding or rotting. What a joke
