I have both laser printers and a riso. We usually use the riso to print prescriptions, envelops and blank invoices. For the rest we use the laser printer. It is important to note that the colours don't look the same through all the laser printers, they look differently from a company to an other.
RISO seems like a computer silk screen printer..LOL. I like that! I didnt know it had spot colors! I wonder why Epson or Canon havent come out with optional inks in a kind of Auillary ink bay.... after all of these years. at least like 2-3 empty ink ports for custom colors...
Question! Do you think that spraying fixative on riso-inked paper will prevent smudging? The spray is used with charcoal and pencils to prevent smudging, so I'm wondering if it'll work with riso.

Good video. Just one more difference. Lasers use heat to adhere the toner to the paper. This can cause paper curling issues.
