There are so many other interesting things to see in Oregon other than the stupid sign in stupid portland. Go see the Spruce Goose, go to the coast, go to crater lake. Also the homeless stuff isn't an issue of there not being enough housing but a combination of drugs and runaway property values, just across the west coast in general. There are plenty of houses, and they're building way more, but just not the kind anyone can afford. They're slowly encroaching on the small town my relatives live in.

The US is the only country I have visited in which I am more afraid of the police than of the bad guys. In my country, the bad guys can hurt me, and so can the police officer, but at least they both face the consequences. In the US the bad guy hurts you, and he gets punished. The police kills you in your bed when invading your home by mistake, and thank to qualified immunity, they do not even necessarily lose their jobs. But oh boi you say something bad about how the US is a police state and how militarized the police is and you are basically a commie who loves crime.

portland was still awesome in 2005-2008 time frame. i remember around that time frame going to pioneer square and they wete getting together for a protest to demand the FBI release all their documents proving the existence of sasquatch. portland protests used to be a party. starting around occupy walstreet portland protest started getting angry and now they are often violent. portland just fun anymore
