The way I'm so obsessed with this show! It's amazing! The chemistry between Lestat and Louis is sizzling! You can feel the care put into it! Everyone involved should be proud. Love your review
It's really fucking garbage. In the Vampire Chronicles the vamps sex was pointless. Louis and Lestat's relationship was never sexual outside of the blood. They were never doing anything close to what is happening in that shit show of a show. Louis really resented Lestat from the moment he made him. Yet he felt tied to him as his maker. He sure as shit wasn't trying to fuck him. It was never more than a bromance. The fact they are rewriting it to add all this sex in like some inexcusable version of True Blood is a disgrace.
@@lakedentist4819 Yes wah wah....they are capitalizing on a best selling novel and basically rewriting all the relationships and the roles as a contemporary cash grab. It's hard to be original and easier to do a cover one thinks they could have done better. wah wah.... You really talk as someone that has not seen the original and not read any of the books either. You have no appreciation for the original art of this story. For an example I highly doubt you have read Blood and Gold. You probably don't even know who Marius is. Marius after making his one love a vampire had zero interest in sex. Pandora had to convince him even to try it. Armand also was a sexual deviant and 15 when he was made into a vampire. He had zero interest in sex after becoming a vampire. Also the only thing they get remotely close to right was they had an abusive relationship. However you miss the point that with Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles the relationships between the vampires was always very asexual. The bloodlust was sexual but not in a pornographic way. Not that I am a prude but adding all the sex takes away from the story and it's original design. Trying to integrate all of this sex into the story is just trying to appease the lowest common denominator. wahh....wahh....
This is honestly one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. I just cannot get enough of it. It inspired me to read the books, and I am so excited for season 2.
The interview book is going to be very different, but as you read all the chronicles you'll see all the nods to the books in season 1. The casual comment about a musician is actually a person you know from the series, and things like that. It's great!
@@SLTAngst Yes!! I noticed the musician and thought it was neat how they incorporated that into the show so well. I loved the IWTV novel, and I’m currently half way through The Vampire Lestat :)
I want a series on Marius de Romanus soooo badly. He is my favourite character in the Vampire Chronicles. I think Sam Reid is a fabulous Lestat. I agree that this series is more well-rounded and mature than the film.
Yaassss for season 25! Thank you SO much for this video. You summed up everything so much more succinctly and eloquently than I ever could have. I have only seen the first two episodes and all I have been telling people is that while there are some major changes from the book, all of them only enhance the story. Also that the production values and acting are top tier. From now on whenever people ask me what I think of the new series, I'm just going to send them a link to this video. You're amazing, Sarah and I *so* share your excitement and enthusiasm!
Just watched the first episode. It's so good. I'm jealous I don't have access to the episodes like reviewers. Uff I'm totally in love. Plus the acting is 1000% better than the movie. I love how they basically merged The Feast of All Saints with Interview with the Vampire and Anne's obsession with Creole culture in New Orleans.
Just watched the first episode my goodness that episode was amazing!!!! The actor who plays lestat was terrifying and yet he pulled you in with his performance, that church scene terrified me . Finally adult vampires are in the room!... the only crime is we have to wait week to week if they did lestat this good, I can't wait for how they do Armand, Merrick and others
Your review gave me everything I needed and more. I actually was smiling all the way through it. I LOVE this show. The very first time I got to stay up late on a Saturday and watch a movie with my parents, the movie was Dracula with Bela Lugosi. I have been all in with vampires ever since. This show is giving me more than I ever dreamed could exist. AMC already renewed it for a second season. I only hope they can maintain this level of storytelling the entire run. Instant classic.
I'm surprised how good the first 3 episodes are. The writing, acting, the story and the character arcs are all really good! I'm hooked . I can't wait for episode 4!
I totally agree with everything you said. As an obsessed fan of Anne Rice and The Vampire Chronicles I was skeptical at first. But man oh man was I not! Am so glad I opened my mind I just went ahead I watched the first episode and now I forgot what I was upset about. The creative liberties that the showrunners did had done wonders for the show
I agree completely. Everything they've done has added so much to a story I already love. We actually get to see them live as a couple, instead of just listening to Louis whine lol
I love your review! 😍 I'm already in love with Sam, Jacob and Bailey... I keep looking for some informations about them, I keep looking for news... I'm crazy about this TV Show. I'm not happy because I'm in Brazil, but I'll keep trying to watch it on my TV. 😭 Lestat, I love you since I was 14 years old! I'm 38 right now. 😍
Nice to hear comments from someone who already was a fan of the books. Am excited for this series because it looks quite ready to dive into the darker and more philosophical elements of Rice's work. Not upset about changes to Louis so far, since I wasn't that attached to him and preferred Lestat as protagonist. This updated Louis seems more dynamic and able to hold up the protagonist role. We'll see. That said, I do miss the younger Daniel because of his morbidly fascinating relationship with Armand. Am puzzled about having a teenage Claudia, because then you have to explain why she's considered an abomination while Armand, who was vampirized at close to the same age, is acceptable to the vampire community. Unless of course they age Armand up as well. Looking forward to watching the series and seeing how these and other story elements are handled.
I always wondered if there was huge curffuffle in the fan community over Antonio’s casting as Armand. When I first began reading I was like wait…what?!? Then why are we so upset over Claudia?!? I think it’s more so an abomination because the ancient ones like to always be involved and there ceremony. But Lestat never follows the rules. Personally, I love that this series allows us to see Louis happy, human, the turned vampire and his slow building distain for himself. He’s not just brood brood brood. Whine whine whine. It makes him a much better fully formed character. As far as Claudia, they aged her for the movie as well. There’s no way we were expected to believe Kirsten is 5 lol
@@SLTAngst I was a child when the film came out and can't tell you much about the reaction back then. But it seems that many people think Banderas did a good job, and also understand that the filmmakers wanted to avoid feeding into hateful prejudices around homosexuality and pedophilia that were running rampant at the time. As to people being upset about Claudia, especially about changes to her race, that's likely to do with today's culture wars. Concerns about her changed age get compounded into the whole brouhaha. Indeed, Dunst's Claudia is aged up, but she played opposite an Armand who was aged *way* up and well into adulthood. As a result, Dunst's Claudia was clearly much younger than all the other vampires in the film and thus exceptional. In the absence of information about TV Armand, I'm still wondering about whether this teenage Claudia will also be matched by an older Armand. If they look to be about the same age, I'd expect the scriptwriters to do some explaining.
@@jaminavestajugo3456 I think we’ll have to wait a bit for those answers. The writer has said the series is roughly 20 pages per episode. Where it ended for me in episode 5 we aren’t there yet.
@@SLTAngst yeah I have to imagine something big is coming or at least will be teased in episode 6 and especially 7 because you and all the other critics only got to watch the first five episodes, so my theory is maybe episode 6 and 7 will tease Armand , Santiago and the rest of Theatre des Vampires storyline for a potential season 2 but this is just my guess
Being a fan of the booksI absolutely LOVED this first episode. Yes, it's a departure from the books, but in the best way possible . The writing, the characters, Lestat.....OMG LESTAT....is everything I wanted and more. I look forward to the upcoming episodes
Yeah the production value, performances and basically everything is totally legit with this show. There's a few purists that didn't enjoy the changes and also a few sexually challenged individuals, but I'd imagine most people that give it a shot will come away seeing something of quality.
People are getting tired of hollywood changing characters we love into gay, or some minority race just for woke points. It's condescending. BUT, this show is an excellent example of how to do it the right way. The changes actually had significant relevance to Louie and how he became the vampire he is today.
@@TheRayfield77 Anne Rice vampires are canonically queer and Loustat is endgame in the book series so it's not a change in that aspect. All the vampires have messy relationships with each other.
I don't love that they had to 'make it their own' but I think they're off to a good start. The only downside is that it's a longer story and has a lot of filler, and Lestat only found his stride in episode 2. But, these are minor gripes, the costumes, camera work and set design popped off. 'You are a library of confusion' is my new favourite quote.
It’s a great quote. I enjoy seeing a lot of nods to later book storylines, there’s a ton of foreshadowing as well. So, while they’re “making it their own” most of it is from canon.
This review means more to me from someone who has read all the books in the series (as I have) than if you knew nothing about it. I will be trying to find reviews from people who have not read any of hte books but it means a whole lot to me that a real fan loved this series. Im looking forward to watching it.
I haven't read the source material and I thought it was excellent on its own merits based on the first episode. 10/10. Intoxicating. Gripping. Bloody. Glorious!
Wow - YOu should get paid for giving this review. It made a 'believer' out of me in no time flat. Your exuberance, your embracing of the changes, and the characters were totally engulfing. I only watched the first episode and didn't walk away thinking it was brilliant, so I went searching for a review and saw this one you posted. You were memorizing, which of course made me reconsider my doubts. I'm going to join AMC right now only because of your review. I'm sure I'm not the only one that was convinced they better join up after your commentary. You deserve a cut considering how many of your fans are following your advice.
Even if I had never read the books, Just your enthusiasm after seeing the first five episodes would have made me watch this show! LOL. We are one week away from the finale and I still want more. Even though I I had to do a little reimagining for the show's sake it wasn't that big of a leap, and the changes were and have been a pleasant surprise. The writers have done a phenomenal job casting is perfect and it might be my new favorite guilty pleasure!
I absolutely loved it and look forward to seeing more! 🥰🥰 I just started reading the books-a little late especially since I saw the movie first lol but I’m loving it all 🥰🥰🥰🥰
The producers WANTED to have a younger Claudia, but New Orleans child labour laws wouldn't allow a younger person to work the hours they would need her to. So they had to age her up, to get an older actress.
Im a huge fan of Anne Rice. Especially The vampire chronicles! 1994 movie is so dear to my heart too. I watched the first episode and im just so amazed by it. Yes, some things are changed but this is just wow for me. And ive waited for this for so long!! Ever since Anne started to talk about putting Lestat and Louis on tv again. RIP Anne, you will forever be missed and loved..
It's kind of nuts that they already greenlit a Season 2 and Mayfair is already in production. AMC is clearly trying to build their next massive franchise, and after watching the first episode I have to wonder if they found it.
@@SLTAngst When Louis and his family were discussing the mental health of his brother. They said something like they they Even brought him to the people in Mayfair...but I think they were into some Strange things....can't remember the exact quote ...but they referred to them as being odd
While I would love a series that was 100% loyal to the books, I am also very open to changes if the final product is a good one. I think different doesn't has to mean bad, and the trailers I seen looked good so I am very excited to see this show. It's great to hear the opinion of someone that already has seen 5 episodes and that is also a fan of the book series, and you being so positive about it gives me hope that will enjoy it.
In a way it is loyal to the books. A lot of the stories comes from the later books when they're all retelling their story. Louis's the first book and it's told through his depressive state. Lestat reads it and is like "Well, this is nonsense" and rewrites the book himself. And so on and so on. There's a moment with a diary where I gasped because I didn't think they'd go there... They built a lot of it off of Anne's notes about the series and what she would've done differently. In a Q&A, we were told one of those things was making Louis black, but no one would read something like that in the 70s. Anne and Chris were both involved in the creation of the series until her passing. Chris stayed on.
@@SLTAngst I believe her book and the film were just fine. I just didn't like the fact that they made Lewis Black and a pimp. Lewis in the books and the movie was a plantation owner and grieving for his dead wife and child. In the books Lewis had absolutely nothing and was willing to lose it all and list that took advantage of that because he needed somebody to hang out with as he was bored and so on and so on. But then in the series they're showing that Lewis had a brother was very religious and committed suicide and his sister was marrying someone and so on someone. I just didn't like it and I won't watch it anymore. However I hope that you have read the wishing hour, Lasher and Taltos. That series will come out in early 2023
@@dawnmariedemidio57 The movie was very wrong when it came to Louis's family and it's something the series corrects. In the book, Louis doesn't have a wife or a daughter. However, he has parents, a younger sister, and his brother Paul is very religious and believes he hears the voice of god and kills himself. The show gets all that correct. I'm going to definitely add the Mayfair Witches series to my reading list!
@@SLTAngst I must admit that it was a long time ago when I read Interview with the Vampire, perhaps I shall read it again. I hope you do read the lives of the Mayfield witches series of books, the witching hour, laser, and taltos.I promise you that you will love them. It's so refreshing to chat with such a wonderful young person. What I mean is that you shared information about the book and the fact that you didn't tear me apart with anger. That is a wonderful quality, don't ever lose yhat.
@@dawnmariedemidio57 I'm currently in the middle of my 3rd reread lol I appreciate that compliment. I'm not about ripping people apart for having different opinions than me. Art is subjective.
Louie in the books was the most depressed dead person ever! It was like who would love to be eternally depressed is the question you asked yourself while reading that book
I loved the books. I've read all of the Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches. So far it's staying true to the books and cut out all of the ambiguity of Lestat and Louis' relationship, that the movies left out.
@@Tylerius87 they follow all the major fundamental plots points. regardless of the changes, it's still a tale about toxic, abusive family dynamic. louis' profession or claudia's hair color are not fundamental plots of the story. the very definition of an adaptation is "an entirely new creative work that pulls ideas from or is inspired by another work's plot, characters, or themes." that's exactly what they did.
For once the Hollywood changes are great.. Loui should be African American and I thought that when I first read the book in the 90s what a great story to have an African American character in New Orleans. So much more interesting, as a TV series is so much better for a book then movies
So many people said they were out when they saw the cast, which is unfortunate, but I was all in. I loved it! I loved the whole concept of it being 40 years later and this sort of updating/ fact checking of Louis's story. The chemistry between Lestat and Louis is amazing and I can't wait to see what's next. I'm a fan!
the problem is that that isnt the book Anne wrote. man I cant believe how bad this show is and how much it betrayed the novels. not in a million years would Anne of been ok with the way this show went
@@reconstructionmanifest7349 If you've read the novels then you would notice all the storylines this series in introducing and interweaving. Anne was involved with the series before her passing, and they also used her notes on the books when writing the scripts. Just FYI
@@SLTAngst sorry vampire chronicles is really special to me so this show really set me off. Mostly bc I was really excited. I didnt even care about all of the character switching and I gave the show a chance but I just dont understand how something can be changed so much and still be called the same thing. This literally isnt interview. Not the one written by Anne. She may have been involved at first but if you do some digging there is nothing confirmed beyond chris writing a pilot in 2018. No statements. Nothing. No way she signed off on this
The only issue I had with the casting was the actress who played Claudia and the age they made her. She's too old. Being a child for eternity and the ensuing madness of that situation is what defined Claudia as a character. When you take that away, it's just not the same character at all.
The fact that Lestat feels like Lestat is enough to keep me hooked on this show and any potential changes. If they really are going to adapt all of the Chronicles, then he will be our primary anchor for the show long term anyway.
@@SLTAngst Something that played really well for me was when he was at dinner with Louis' family and he was discussing religion and his family. The rage he felt and showed. There was a depth there that we have not seen on screen before. THAT is what I want more of.
@@robertfarmer1602 I LOVED that scene. That is a very subject for Lestat and they made it one. I appreciated it. Like you’d said, it’s a level we never got from anything previously. There is a lot more of that. Did you catch his casual Nicholas mention in the first episode?
@@robertfarmer1602 I don’t think we’ll get it since this story is still from Louis perspective. But it happens when talking about the music box and the violinist he knew and helps write the song.
I read the book and can see that they made a lot of changes, but...I loved it. Changing Race: Perfect. New Orleans had many Free Men of Color (Gens de Couleur Libres), so making Louis Black was logical. Sex: The novels were very sexual, sensual, etc. The original movie toned all that down. This series doesn't tone anything down. Orientation: In the books, it was only ever hinted at that Lestat and Louis were lovers. The movie even gave Louis a wife who died in childbirth and carefully hinted at a "relationship" between Lestat and Louis. But this new series puts it all out there. NOTHING is hinted at. They say it and they show it. Timeline: Beautifully filmed. The locations, the sets, the costumes, dialogue, acting, sheer perfection. You really feel like you are there. The new series does however change the time. In the book Lestat and Louis meet in 1791, in this series it's 1910. Conclusion: This is Bridgerton with blood and fangs.
Thanks for sharing your review of Interview with the Vampire Sarah! Long long time book reader myself ... It looks pretty amazing from the cast (they absolutely had me at Jacob Anderson!), the production design, costumes and them not being afraid to delve more deeply into the spirit of The Vampire Chronicles and expand its story in meaningful ways. I've watched a behind the show video and am super-excited that we are getting the Lestat not only from Interview (Sam Reid seems perfect in all kinds of ways to bring to life our beloved brat prince). This looks really fantastic and I cannot wait to see it unfold. I want to believe that the majority of the Ann Rice and Vampire Chronicle loving community will respond nothing like the usual haters and so-called purists of other media and cultural productions as that would be So counter to the inclusion that our dearly departed author created with her art. If it is as well made and beautifully rendered as you suggest, I hope that that will win most people over and introduce others to Ann Rice and her gorgeous storytelling. I'm just immensely curious to experience this with an open heart and mind and trusting the creators to mine deeply from the precious source material. ~ k
I just watched the behind the scenes myself. I love what the writer says about the original interview gave us this interview (holds up interview), this series gives us this interview (stacks the rest of the book series on top of it). I can't wait for every to watch it and hopefully love it as much as I do.
Really wonderful great review. And yes omg I absolutely loved this show it's so amazing & beautiful, masterfully done on so many levels, and it's now become one of my favorite shows I'm obsessed/hooked on IWTV, and cannot wait for Season 2 which premieres on May 12th I will look forward to all your reviews and videos on it cheers😊
I've only seen the first episode, twice, I can't say enough about how proud Anne must be. I thought it made sense that Louis could be black, or creole, Anne's background characters were always diverse, and it makes sense for New Orleans in the time period, I like this more aggressive Louis, and I thought the cast in the movie was too young, especially Claudia, making her a teenager makes more sense, I loved the "mind talk" scenes, the subtle change in lighting, the background sounds being muffled, it really expresses the sence of heaviness and confusion, these actors are phenomenal, I'll be watching these episodes over and over for sure, I'm ecstatic about the Mayfair series starting next year, and cant wait to see if we will get that juicy universe character blending with Arron Lightner and the Taltos, and Lasher, so excited.
@@SLTAngst I hope you consider reading Witching Hour, the story is SO rich, and I think you might find some cross-over hints exciting, I too, find these actors take on Louise and Lestat, satisfying 💜
I've been reading and rereading ALL of the Anne Rice books for the last 30 years and I just love this series. I think they really got Lestat right. How charming and seductive he is to EVERYONE. His smoldering into the camera really was intoxicating! I love the changes and I know Anne Rice would be proud of the show and its fabulous reception. I hope it goes far!
I'm currently in the middle of a reread as well! I haven't read the back half of the series in a while cause it kinda goes off the rails. BUT I'm doing it this time lol OMG Sam Reid as Lestat...I've been seduced through the screen!
AMC is showing the first episode and I'm watching 👀 it right now. it's good! really good. it's brutal, beautiful, sad, sensual. Just give it a chance, let yourselves be taken in this old yet new ride.
I'm happy that other fans of the books are giving the series a chance. Yes, I wanted a faithful adaptation STARTING with _The Vampire Lestat_ , THEN _Interview with the Vampire_ , THEN _The Queen of the Damned_ , etc., preferably written by Christopher Rice and produced by Anne herself, but Hollywood does not work like that. I am really excited for the show. I will treat this version of the story as an alternate universe of sorts. Oh, and quick question: Wasn't Cher supposed to play Louis, not Lestat?
@@Toyoyomi OK, but Anne said differently when interviewed for her biography _Prism of the Night_ , which written by Katherine Ramsland. It is from this biography that the quote below is taken: Anne was distressed and joked that the project was cursed. She noticed that other vampire movies seemed suspiciously familiar, as if her ideas were being cannibalized. Finally she was able to write the bible. “In an effort to save the story from Interview and to save Claudia,” she said, “I suggested we make Louis a woman. It works. It’s all the same passivity, the same philosophical ideas, the same inability to fight Lestat’s domination. It’s fine for Louis to be a woman because he is a woman-he’s really me.” With Cher or Meryl Streep in mind, she set about creating a transvestite, trans-gender female, whose husband and daughter had died on the way to Louisiana from the Islands. Since women could not inherit plantations, the character steps on shore in her husband’s clothes and challenges anyone to say she’s not a man. Everyone knows she’s a woman and she gets into brawls. “She was a good swordsman,” said Anne, “and a good gunfighter, and she kept her plantation, which everybody wanted, by fighting people off. So it was an interesting story. And there were very famous transvestites in that era. It was a common motif.”
As far as Cher and Lestat - I believe you’re correct. I may have misspoke. I thought I read an article a while ago where she describes how Lestat would be Cher walking through time as a woman. Doing my do diligence now I’m seeing articles say Louis. Oh the Odyssey of memory or glitch in the matrix :) Anne and Chris both had a hand in this series. Chris stayed on even after his mothers passing. So, I’m a way you get part of what you were hoping for.
@@SLTAngst , I'm just glad my memory isn't as bad as I feared it was. 😅 When it comes to Anne Rice and her Vampire Chronicles, I'd like to think my recollection is good given how much I love them. As for Christopher Rice being involved, I'm unsure about that. He IS listed as an executive producer on IMDb, but refuses to speak about the show when asked by fans on social media, posting merely the cut-and-paste response that he has nothing to say about the series, and thar all queries should be directed to AMC. I don't know if this is due to an NDA, but it's still a bit perplexing. Was he involved or not? If he was, but does not like how the show has changed the source material, I suppose it's safe to assume that he cannot, under contract, say anything negative about the series. Just checked the AMC press kits website, and there is no mention of Christopher or Anne as producers. Not even in the trailers.
Anne Rice wanted Cher to play Louis, not Lestat. Just thought I make that small correction. It was because at some point she was considering genderswapping Louis, luckily it never came to be.
@@SLTAngst as am I, now I know Mayfair Witches will debute as well which will feature lestat and I'm sadden anne isn't here to witness her vision of vampire witches lore but I think she was such a progressive writer that it would be criminal not to atleast take a shot and put her works on screen !

so glad to see this review. I've watched the first episode and it was pretty good. It's a shame people who have watch the 1994 version is not even giving this one a chance
because this version is nothing compared to 1994. if you want to do a vampire couple movies, then please do. do not take ordinal and twist it, mud the historical facts.. haven't we learned from past experiences, that remakes of the good originals end up with a bitter taste in the mouth

I love this series a 1000x more than I loved the Pitt/Cruise version. That came out when I was a teenager, and it was just to soft for me even then. They made this series brutal, almost how you would think vampires would be if they were real. I love it. Love the books more, but I love it.
As a fan of the books I honestly can't wait for this! Despite the changes, I know they were vetted by Anne and I trust her creative visionary. I believe she actually wrote some of the script, along with her son. Also, I actually think Jacob Anderson is going to do amazing as Louis. It's about the passion and the despair, who the character is intrinsically - from what I've seen of the trailer he's embodying that perfectly. Also, speaking of Anne, just wanted to say RIP. It's sad she won't be here to see the finished product. Edit: This is what I get from commenting before watching, lol. I had no idea they were letting people watch in advance, so awesome that you got to do that! I'm so happy to hear what you're saying, now I know for sure it'll be great!
There are a ton of outlets that watched the first 5 episodes. I seem to be the only one who did a video lol I'll be watching along with every live on Twitter Oct 2nd! I hope people love it as much as I do.
@William Thomas that’s not what the series is about at all. Does sex exist? Yes. But it’s truly about the characters, their life together, and struggles they face. The series tells the story through the entire book series, not just the one. Anne was involved with the series before she passed. She also wanted to cast Cher as Louis in the movie. So, we can’t pretend she also wanted change.
I am so excited for this show I've been all in on this show since it was first announced it just sounded so good and intriguing to me, I can't wait any longer for this I want to watch this show already 🙌🔥🧛🦇
@Smells Like Teen Angst Omg is it time for Season 2 yet? I simply cannot wait! When it comes out, wouldn't it be lovely to do an episode by episode review? Maybe go live and chat about it after the episode comes out? I clearly am in desperate need of someone to talk to about my obsession with this show; my hubby is beyond tired of hearing me "talk at him" about it. 😅😅
I need season 2 right now! I’m currently in my reread of the entire book series’s and I can’t get over all the little details pulled in I have forgotten about. Currently rereading QOTD and when she found Claudia’s journal I died! Yes! So smart. I love the suggestion of a talk back series. We do a few of those here. I’ll consult the ladies and let you know. I’d love to
agreed on all of it. The only adjustment to make this perfect would be "UP the accuracy " of the accents. but otherwise, I can not wait for next season and Im only on episode 3
Episodes 1 and 2 were great but might wait for all the episodes to come out so I can binge them. I cannot read a book chapter by chapter, I sit down and finish it in one session. I just hope season one wraps up Interview and Immortal Universe moves on to The Vampire Lestat quickly! There are so many characters I want to see!
That’s how shows get cancelled people think they’ll wait to binge and the views look bad…. Luckily it’s been renewed for season 2, but don’t do that support shows as they release
I love, love, love, your take on this series!!! I'm tired of seeing those who "complaints" that this is not like the book, blablabla... What's the point of making an adaptation if everything has to be he same page to page like you said.... I also have no complaints about the show.. Great review!😍😍😍
Thank you! Those complains are boring and unoriginal lol The series is taking the entire book series and turning that into the story. Kinda like how Queen of the Dammed put the entire Lestat book in a flashback. However, the series is doing a way better job lol If people want a semi-page for page, that still has a ton of changes, then they can watch the movie
Spolier alert for anyone who hasn't seen the thing end of episode 7 of this show.... Stop reading now. You've been warned.... With that out of the way, given we end with meeting Armand, who else would b devestated if we didn't get a season 2? I totally DID NOT see "Rashid" being Armand at all, which I think was their point. Given his comments about "serving a God" when conversing with Daniel about working for Louis, I'm very curious where that is going. I also like the changes made with what, such as the period their relationship begins in, Louis being African American and aging Claudia even more than the 1994. The change is particularly good as she's of an age where she will never become a matured woman, which is a large part of her character arch, yet she's physically old enough to be sexually intimate without it being creepy, like it would be if she was 11 or so. Also, while I adore the version of Louis in the show, if I had to pick either him or Lestat, I'd choose Sam Reid's Lestat. Dude just freaking NAILS it. He's the uppity, braty, narcissistic, passionate yet strangely detached vampire I've come to loathe and adore at the same time. His last ending scene with Louis and Claudia was absolutely amazing. I simply don't have the words for it. Anyway, who is with (or even against) me? I'd love to engage in some dialogue with you all here in the comment section.
I'm always happy to discuss lol I cannot WAIT for season 2! I didn't see Rashid coming AT ALL either. His devotion to God makes perfect sense since he did live in a monastery before being sold into slavery. I'm curious how much of his original backstory they'll keep. I also like aging Claudia a little more, she's still an immortal child, but we won't need to find different actresses over the years (yet) to play her as a 3 or even 10-year-old. She's 14, so it's still creepy that men find her attractive, but she'll never fully be a woman at an age where puberty was just starting adds a whole extra layer. Sam Reid is PERFECTION. He makes me love and hate this character even more than I already did. My hope for season 2, we see Louis and Claudia meet the other types of vampires who aren't so lucky. We make it to the theater group in France. I'm guessing it will end with Claudia's death.
I just watched episode 1, and I can't wait for the rest of the show! I'm not married to the source material (my Anne Rice phase was in highschool over 20 years ago *g*), but it's great to hear that book lovers also enjoy the story despite the changes. (Just one small thing: Louis wasn't the owner of the fancy brothel, his 8 brothels were on the poor side of the red light district, because of his race. That's another reason he feels limited by his surroundings, he's still a second-class citizen albeit a relatively wealthy one with access that other black men don't have.)
@@SLTAngst hey just curious are you possibly going to do a review discussion series for the interview with the vampire show like you did with Pretty Little Liars Original Sin ?
@@roderick8167 We've been discussing it. Schedules have been all over the place. However, if there's a want for it we'll try even harder to make it happen
So I was one of the ones that was pissed at the changes with Louis. Not his race change but because they made him a pimp. That pissed me off because I thought it cheapened him and if they were going to make the change then they could have done something else but… BUT…. I watched it and I can’t wait for more episodes..it was awesome…. The fans need to watch and support it… it is true to the book in its own way. Not page by page but the essence…. Can’t wait to see what they do with Claudia even though she will always be Kirsten Dunce in my heart.
I’ve been a huge fan of the novels since 1992 and the movie(for superficial reasons). I am beyond excited for this adaptation / re- imagination. Just from the trailers alone it captures the tone , essence and spirit of the novel. I can tell that it will be a character driven show instead of just plot points from the novel. I’m all for it.
Exactly. It is very character driven so much world building, with incredible story arcs. Then pair of that with the visuals an incredible chemistry it is just perfection.

I absolutely loved this. The fact they made Louie black and gay should of turned me off from it immediately just on principle. BUT, the way they did it was masterful. It actually had relevance to the story and the development of Loui's character. I agree with pretty much everything the author of this video said. The one thing you kind of hinted at, but didn't really address was just how fantastic the dialogue was. This series gave me the feel that the novels did. It was so intricate and fascinating in the topics they discussed, the language, the vocabulary used. I absolutely loved this and am very glad I picked it up and watched. Other than being a fan of the original movie and books I knew nothing about this series when I started it. Needless to say, it way exceeded my expectations.
WOW! Great review!. I'm not sure if you take request or not but if you do then can you please do a review of the new Netflix series " Heartbreak High " reboot ? This is a reboot of the 90's series . This version recently came out and it seems like people are just now getting caught up ( unfortunately Netflix isn't promoting it , the fans are ) .
@3:58 Ah yes; the whining Louis. Reminds me of this scene in the 1994 movie, which I made a clip of below. Lol! th-cam.com/users/clipUgkxhycVs-_MB3K12uAJGEAqAaN4Wh2SNlHY
hahaha I use this quote very often I love that we got a different version of him BEFORE he becomes depressed as we know. We got to see the transition to it, not just in the throws of it.
Very straight, very white man here. I loved the first season. It gave me a lot of the same vibes as the 1996 film. I always figured Louis and Lestat were gay for eachother. I thought it was implied in the 1996 film. Now it's just more explicit. I couldn't care less about the race swapping. I thought it added more depth to the story with the early 1900s racial dynamics shown in the series. The characters were done justice by the script, but even more so by the actors involved.
I read the book in 1985 after hearing the Sting song "Moon over Bourbon Street" And in the Credits on the album it said song was inspired by Anne Rice book Interview with Vampire... So that how I got "sucked" in. Sorry irresistible pun...heh heh Well I was already on board with a Louis being a man of Color...it makes perfect sense if one knows anything about the Demographic of 18th to 19th century New Orleans ... Spoilers ahead....the time shift works perfectly...a now older Interviewer...revisiting his first meeting with Louis... Also I'm happy although Louis is still vulnerable.. he isn't the big softie he was portrayed as in the books... Some real out of the box thinking for the script writing...yet the root magic 🎩 of the story ...not only wasn't lost....it was unbelievably and remarkably improved . This book came out in 1976 when I was 10....I read it when I was 19...and next to Stephen Kings "The Stand" it was my other Thriller/Horror Bible... So I was really worried this was going to be a mess....the Vampire Chronicles is way too big for a Movie....it needed a series to tell the whole story ...I've been saying that since the Original movie...although it was well done and well acted ...you can't tell this story in 2 hours or less...so when the Stand mini Series (1994) came out ....I said to myself Anne Rice should do the Same with the Chronicles....(BTW hated the Stand Reboot) original was better.. So here we are I'm 56 avid reader and and huge Anne Rice Fan... Absolutely thrilled in awe overwhelmed with this.....and I've only seen one Episode...Bravo.. BTW ...Lestat was written and Rice had Rutger Hauer in her mind ...Studios tossed around the Idea of John Travolta The Cher Version was for Lestat the Musical... P.S Did anyone catch the reference to the Mayfair Witches 🧙♀️?? More AMC magic on the Way?
I love a good pun. I actually misspoke, Cher was for Louis in the movie. I'm so glad you're loving the series as much as I do. The Vampire Chronicles is so dense and constantly contradicts itself while also going off the rails towards the end. I'm loving this season and can't wait for season 2!
@@SLTAngst Oh I didn't know Cher was considered for Louis in a movie....I read an Anne Rice interview where she was pitched a musical on Lestat the Musical....and Cher was to play Lestat.. Funny in the 94 movie from the book descriptions Tom Cruise should have Been Louis..and Brad Pitt Lestat... Louis is a little older (mortal age) and a about 5'8" In the book The Vampire Lestat He describes himself as 6 ft tall long blonde hair and his mouth is slightly too large for his face....sounds like Pitt to me Also interview is Loius's story ...The movie could have focused on the book and Cruise would've been the main part of the movie
@@judgedredd3568 I love that she held onto the Cher thing lol Exactly. Interview is told through the eyes of our unreliable narrator who is still mourning the loss of his brother and his own life. YOUR LIFE WAS MISERABLE?! okay...fine...I'll become the biggest rockstar ever and you'll never escape me lolol
It’s very different. Killing Eve is all about it never being realize. As far as Louis and Lestat, their relationship happens. Also, in Killing Eve they’re mutually toxic. Where in this series it’s definitely one way toxic
The way I'm so obsessed with this show! It's amazing! The chemistry between Lestat and Louis is sizzling! You can feel the care put into it! Everyone involved should be proud.
Love your review
Thank you!!!
@@lokivertigo457 wahh wahh

It's great!

Yaassss for season 25! Thank you SO much for this video. You summed up everything so much more succinctly and eloquently than I ever could have. I have only seen the first two episodes and all I have been telling people is that while there are some major changes from the book, all of them only enhance the story.

The actor that played Lestat was so good. I dare say, he was better than Tom Cruise.

Anne and Chris were both involved in the creation of the series until her passing. Chris stayed on.

The fact that Lestat feels like Lestat is enough to keep me hooked on this show and any potential changes. If they really are going to adapt all of the Chronicles, then he will be our primary anchor for the show long term anyway.
Exactly. Same Reid is KILLING IT. I feel like I've been seduced through the screen.

@@debbiekirby7938 yaaaas!!! I did a rewatch and loved it even more. I caught so many nuggets I missed the first time around.
Such an great review! So refreshing from other reviewers who have nothing nice to say about the story's they claim to love.
Thank you for your comment. I haven't checked out many reviews, but written ones that also love it lol

I just watched the behind the scenes myself. I love what the writer says about the original interview gave us this interview (holds up interview), this series gives us this interview (stacks the rest of the book series on top of it).

Thank you so much!
They didn't make a comment about the women in Mayfair in the first episode! I feel like that means a crossover is coming.
@@SLTAngst I hope you consider reading Witching Hour, the story is SO rich, and I think you might find some cross-over hints exciting, I too, find these actors take on Louise and Lestat, satisfying 💜

No, Cher was supposed to play Lestat
@@Toyoyomi OK, but Anne said differently when interviewed for her biography _Prism of the Night_ , which written by Katherine Ramsland. It is from this biography that the quote below is taken:
Anne was distressed and joked that the project was cursed. It’s fine for Louis to be a woman because he is a woman-he’s really me.”
With Cher or Meryl Streep in mind, she set about creating a transvestite, trans-gender female, whose husband and daughter had died on the way to Louisiana from the Islands.
Oh the Odyssey of memory or glitch in the matrix :)
Anne and Chris both had a hand in this series.
Not even in the trailers.

so glad to see this review. I've watched the first episode and it was pretty good. It's a shame people who have watch the 1994 version is not even giving this one a chance
It's so silly to me because the movie very wrong. It also changed Louis story, left out key moments, and don't get me started on Armond.
because this version is nothing compared to 1994. if you want to do a vampire couple movies, then please do. do not take ordinal and twist it, mud the historical facts.. haven't we learned from past experiences, that remakes of the good originals end up with a bitter taste in the mouth
@@FullMoonKitty 1994 also took a ton of liberties, it's far from a perfect adaptation. Personally, I love them both. This series is giving me everything the movie didn't.
@@FullMoonKitty I love both movie and tv series. They're not adapting the 1994 version, they're adapting anne rice's novels. If there is enough viewers for the first season and the first season is good enough, then hopefully they'll adapt the other books

As someone who read the books as a child and adult, and obsessed with the movie - I highly recommend this series
Sam Reid is the Lestat the fans deserve!!! Jacob Anderson is my Louis from now on and forever!!!
100%
I seem to be the only one who did a video lol
I'll be watching along with every live on Twitter Oct 2nd!
She can't vet anything after she died.
Based on just episode 1, people have been given Emmys for doing less. Jacob is exceptional in this role.

OH!I also hope we get to see more of what Lestat was upto in the mean time before finding his way to Paris.

To be fair, it's barely veiled in the book series lol
I read the book in 1985 after hearing the Sting song "Moon over Bourbon Street"
And in the Credits on the album it said song was inspired by Anne Rice book Interview with Vampire...
So that how I got "sucked" in. Sorry irresistible pun...heh heh
Well I was already on board with a Louis being a man of Color...it makes perfect sense if one knows anything about the Demographic of 18th to 19th century New Orleans ...
BTW ...Lestat was written and Rice had Rutger Hauer in her mind ...Studios tossed around the Idea of John Travolta
The Cher Version was for Lestat the Musical...

Louis is a little older (mortal age) and a about 5'8"
In the book The Vampire Lestat
He describes himself as 6 ft tall long blonde hair and his mouth is slightly too large for his face....sounds like Pitt to me
Also interview is Loius's story ...The movie could have focused on the book and Cruise would've been the main part of the movie

Hey, there. Would you say the sexual tension and intimacy between the two leads is on par with that of Villaneve from Killing Eve?
