He also was 41, and had only attained enough success to do music as his main gig the year before, at 40 years old. So, people who have that dream and goal should never say never! Especially if they're as awesome as Willie is here
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for uploading this for us to enjoy. This music is healing me from my illness and depression. I'm feeling inspired to turn away from news, politics and social media to just focus on music again. God bless you all.
I was out of the loop on the Texas music revival scene of outlaws with Willie and Waylon and the boys. Was it this era when they were so wild? Well, wild as can be - I remember sitting in this sleazy honkey tonk in 78 and "You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille," was every other song. Willie didnt' do it, but it reminds me of hm....then there was the sad songs and the bad songs and blue eyes crying in the rain as they whooped it up in Lubbock Texas, ain't nobody feeling no pain -- with Willy, Waylon and the Boys. Well, Steve Earl wasn't doing so hot -- but I was in my late teens.... I was more interested in the Neil and the Stones. -- but I always loved Willie --- what a testament to hard but good living.
Willie and his band in the 74-75 era were absolutely amazing! Probably the best band in America at that time and they left an incredible lasting legacy in the history of American music
I was loving Willies 90 Birthday , “ long story short”. Then one day it was no longer availablevon Paramount. I have tried to find it , in vain. Hope someone will bring it back. So very entertaining. There is already a shortage of hgood entertainment.
Grateful I had a brother-in-law stationed in Texas who turned us on to Willie at just about this point in time. We felt like we were on to something that most folks didn’t know: Willie is one of those great artists who are ahead of their time. Timeless
Don't remember the concert, but my parents took me to see Willie perform at the Austin Opry House. Steve Fromholz opened and it was an incredible show. Also was graced with seeing the 2nd showing of Willie's 4th of July Picnic.... So thankful for my Dad giving me the appreciation for Country Music and especially the Red Headed Stranger. RIP Dad & Long LIve Willie!!!
I like still looking at Willey, he reminds me of my Dad but Dad looked some like Willie too. My Dads frist cousin Willie is, but my Dad hurt his back in road a limb from a tree broke with him. My Aunt Emilee told Willie when they were 9/10 years ol joe broke his back they think but want tell Dad so Willie played what he was learning on his guitar be4 they moved to texas. Dad told me the story Aunt Eermilee told it to me frist. Willie said he sure did instead of playing. 😊. My Dads mother was a Smothers who married into Merriman family.
Thanks for sharing this Awesome video of Willie & the Family band! I especially loved hearing Jody Payne sing with Willie and his solo at 10:34! So hard to believe its been 50 years ago....
❤❤Love this video!! I can’t believe she ‘s gone!! Yes I’m giving fishing!! Mickey. And a lot of sadness, in Willie life!! He telling that to his band member, Willie she’s not for you!!
they said on his birthday special the other night that he has outlived all his band mates.....sad -- but there were plenty to celebrate with him being 90 at Hollywood Bowl. My mother is 90. It is not easy for anyone. You have do to a. lot of non complaining and fake smiling --- my grandfather who lived to be 97, kept saying at about 96 - "You DO NOT want to live this long." I won't. Happy Birthday Willie, it's a miracle you did -- but you were never into the hard stuff much and you must have genes. I hope Lucas lives that long -- though I won't be around to see it. He is a perfect example of family caring for family in a low key but significant way. He said he only had one rule growing up: "Just don't be an asshole." -- good advice -- and he surely is. not....JMHO thanks.
@@soylentgreen9314nope, Mickey is very much alive and well. So this comment isn’t true. Although I believe Mickey is the only original family band member left.
Crazy ❤he’s singing the one of the biggest at time!! He still has smiling eyes!! No matter how feels, singing heart breaking song, they twinkle as he sings!!
Hey folks, someones got to it. Turned out to be willie. Just plain Devine. I saw willie open for the grateful dead at meadowlands 78 or 79. This mid 70’s outlaw country sound is my favorite. It was just so pure and raw. Songs from the heart.
This account is the gift that keeps on giving! Nothing equivalent to these 74 and 75 shows!
