I really like how long this bed is but I checked the USA website and the longest bed on there is around 5 feet. I think this one is around 8 feet. I wonder if they will start selling these long beds in the U.S. I love your videos. Thanks for this series.

I'd like to add a tip! My local nurseryman suggested that, when building beds like this, to water thoroughly at every layer. This makes it much easier to get the initial moisture throughout the bed. You could also add whatever organic fertilizers at different levels as well . . and/or worms, your kitchen compost, etc. You get the idea. Thanks for this video!!

Love it! The structure of this bed reminds me of a horse watering trough. I am in the USA, and in my area, we have terrible problems with burrowing rodents like groundhogs, moles, rabbits, etc. So my only suggestion is in the very bottom of the bed, before you add any organic matter, I would insert strong wire fencing which has very small holes. That way, animals cannot come up from the ground and steal the crops. Otherwise, I am picturing a few of these beds in my future!

Great energy and good advice. I have just retired from teaching after 30 years and are ready to nurture myself and my environment. What better way than to start a vegetable garden, right? I would love to see an easier way for one person to set up a garden bed. In the video, I could see a whole crew putting this garden bed together, I only have two hands. Also, if you could slow down and explain the kind of materials you used to set up netting, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you so much for inspiring me to be more self sufficient. We are cheering you on from Mission Viejo, California. Maria Lucia

      Hello Maria,
This weekend I put together 2 of these beds on my own. It’s possible although it takes longer on your own.
I didn’t get the waist high (80cm) version because my garden is so small. I bought the 40cm beds.
      They’re truly awesome.

I have been struggling with appropriate hoops and netting for seedling beds (raised or not) for a while now... bought a few packs of grow tunnels from Bunnings but the hoops are too small and weak and bend/break/disintegrate too quickly for my liking. Mark, this is really a great idea putting the tree branches and logs on the bottom, those logs soak up the water in the bottom and withhold it to help keep the plants hydrated.
I ask here in the States when I go to a big box store if they have blood & bone, well they look a me like I'm stupid or something, and I keep forgetting they only do the blood & bone in separate bags here ( old habits die hard, I guess?).

In USA, those galvanised steel growing beds you asked where to get them in one of your videod- can be found in farm supply companies, they are mostly used as animal watering tanks. The big oval long ones some people use as an outdoor raised pond or even a hot tub, or rustic indoor bathtub.

G'day Tony and thanks mate! Yes I agree that a lot of supermarket food is ordinary. Don't get me wrong, "fresh" supermarket fruit and veg are generally ok but what concerns me is the chemicals used in preserving and producing the food, also the lack of variety with a tendency to stock produce with a long shelf life or perfect looks rather than taste and nutrition. All the best and keep growing! :)

Just what I need to watch! YOU'RE a genie! I was struggling a little on planting in my tiny townhouse and now im talking your advice only cut to a miniaturized "dollhouse" style version

It's surprising how much produce you can grow in a small space so all the best with your food garden! :)

@@Selfsufficientme I know!! I have enough to share with 3 neighbors and my small family they wonder how much herbs and veges can easilly be grown for asian dishes came from a tiny townhouse garden. This year I might even tripple my yields from doing a miniaturized version of your garden vertically, hope my fence and security grills hold up too since ill be using them for trellises
