This was really well produced and educational. I hope you can do a Jodeci/Devante Swing/Timbo 90s type break down for Rnb samples

The reason all the 60s/70s stuff sounded good is because they didn’t have any room for failure. the amount of tracks they can record and even the recording time was limited. it also gave them a larger sense of creativity to translate the their ideas. These days we have everything at our disposal and to say the least it can be overwhelming

I’ve noticed it in a lot of videos w vocals, that retune speed on the vocals is too fast even for modern trap/RnB I feel like but especially something like this! 30-60 is good to make the correction fairly subtle, humanise should help to stop correction on lower notes, also imagine back then there wasn’t such things so having notes be off slightly or correcting manually in melody with may have things fit in better!
Also, restricting yourself to just spring/vintage chamber/plate reverbs over valhalla (I know they have plate and chamber presets but see what works better) and analog eqs, really constrict yourself to what they only had back then like you brought up and it’ll sound more vintage (true to the times)! Thankyou for the videos, inspiring always!

Psychedelic was the sound of 2010s hip hop and R&B was influenced by it. In the 99s only tribe called quest and OutKast has made psychedelic influenced albums in HH. As a HH Head I like psych rock

In regards to the statement about the mics not being as good in that time period, this is not really accurate. Maybe in the 50’s but by the mid 60’s the majority of the industry standard microphones still used today on instruments did exist.
