Emma, Thanks from Russia! We're watching your channel. Good luck to you and your team. Emma, I want to clarify, to see you not only in western Russia, but also in eastern Siberia. Thank you for your work.
I love how Emma doesn’t wear makeup and dresses normally, not playing up her sex appeal more than the guys do. I’ve never seen a TH-cam channel where a woman is just herself, talking about her expertise, without the need to be all made up, too. We need to be reminded how beautiful women are in their “natural state”-Emma certainly is!
I like your comment about Emma. Her fitness, health and demeanour seem so natural. She also seems very bright, modest and determined amongst other apparent attributes. It all adds up to a great package! Go Emma!
Firsthgyhgyhuy Lastujhujhuj Be nice, don’t be yourself. Try getting a life. You might enjoy it. Being an internet troll and coward doesn’t have much future.
My wife and I love Emma. She adds much class to GCN programs.Anyone can see that she works very hard for her presentations (especially her exercise segments).Thank you, much
For some reason I find Emma's exercise videos incredibly motivating. Whether it's the down-to-earth presentation, or the fact that I'll never doubt her expertise --it works! Stability ball and pull-up bars are in the mail order, I can't wait to get started!
I love the exercises. Thank you for the video. As an Aussie we really get behind our own athletes and are mentally conditioned that every other competitor is a sworn enemy. Emma comes across as such a knowledgeable person that is just so nice
Hello Emma I’m a cyclist and horse rider particularity bareback riding, and I find this video very helpful cause I have a stability ball as well so I’m gonna do these exercises to build my core strength up thank you.
I use free weights and push ups for upper body and core strength. £60 bought me a set of dumbbells and barbell from a well known UK catalogue shop a couple of years ago. I noticed from doing squats with these weights that a weak knee problem I had has totally gone and I also now have more power when out cycling too. 30 to 45 minutes, 3 times per week is what I do with a few core exercises and I'm feeling fitter now than I have done for many years, being in my 50's now. Definitely one of my better purchases!
I love how Emma gives you the exercises and then goes, well when this gets easy then just move onto something even harder! Gosh some of the simple exercises are hard enough, you make then look so easy which feels totally unfair but very helpful and instructional video! Thank you for this... something to think about when next I am in the gym! Keep them up!
Love the Swiss ball/bench plank, I usually put my feet on a med ball and have two points of instability, great video and will add these to my core work too, keep up the good work Emma
Emma, you're the best! Can you please do a video about pedaling out of the saddle? I do this occasionally on my MTB from a stop - usually if I didnt leave the bike in a low enough gear. OMG your exercise routine is incredible. Beyond my job and cycle commutes, I dont do much exercise.
Great set, Emma!!!!! So, so glad to have you on the GCN team! At 2:46, ouch! What happened to your elbow? Recent crash? Hope you're doing okay..... Keep these coming!!!
Emma, thanks for motivating me to get my exercise ball out of the far corner of my basement. Did some of the planks last night. Man, they are tough! I set a few goals for the end of the month. Goal 1. Be able to talk after the first 10 seconds!
Great video. For me, cycling is part of an overall approach to fitness that includes weight training and core. I know many people don’t like hitting the gym, but it’s really important to how I feel, look, and perform. I alternate lifting and riding each day about 5 days a week. If you combine cycling (or running) and weight training you’re in physical shape for pretty much anything. I think people don’t really understand the benefits for building lean muscle mass, especially as they age. I know it’s not as fun a riding, but for me, I’d rather be more well rounded than singularly a body builder or cyclist. But hey, I’m the disciplined type so it may come easier for me.
Alongside the excellent exercises you can do with the gym ball I really like using the TRX suspension trainer with which you can work your whole body with every exercise enhancing the core ( back, abdomen, and hips). For someone wanting to spend most time on the bike 20-30 min on the TRX a couple of times a week will maintain great over all strength.
Great workout Emma, going to do it tomorrow(did glutes today) Would love you to do more on strength and balance work. I`m in my early 60s and female, and have had noticeable muscle wasting since about 55.Also balance not as good. I train hard ,cycle , run ,and have a physical job, but sadly ,the muscle is going.!!!
Great tip! Thanks Emma. Problem is that I not that fit as you and think I must do something easier first. Maybe you can be back with exercises for beginner in bike riding? I do the plank sometimes.
If you want to do these exercises, do them, even if only a few reps are possible at this point in time. Keep at it and you will gradually be capable of more reps. Everyone started somewhere, even fit people like Emma.
Start with a plank but do it from your knees and on the floor and just raise one leg at a time and progess from there ,if you google core exercises or search youtube they'll be 100's of variations from begineer to advanced that can be done
Petinka, the TH-cam channel 'Calisthenics Movement' has a lot of really good videos for beginner to advanced level exercises to get you to the level Emma's got going on here.
I haven't cross-trained in some years, I used to hike regularly, and I had a workout that I did every night, but since I started cycling to work I kind of let that go, only hiking occasionally. one day on my way to work, I got a flat in the way to meet the work van. called the office, and they sent the van to meet me, so I wouldn't lose the hours. now it was 5am on St Patrick's day, so still dark. as the van got there, I pulled the bike off the road and layed it down in what I thought was a concealed location, went to work when i got back though, in the daylight, I could see immediately that I should have taken the time to lock it up. I could clearly see the my bike was no longer there. I had had the van let me off at the meet site and walked there because it was such a nice day. in that moment with my cellphone dead I wished i had taken the offer because I was stuck for walking the rest of the 14 miles home. my point is, I was so out of shape for walking, and didn't even realize it from being so for on the bike... so YES, work on other muscles, if for no other reason than that you may find yourself walking.
Something to add, think it might have been mentioned a bit before, these are fairly advanced core exercises. Work your way up to them, if you don't have the core to complete them properly you will end up injuring yourself more. Keep it simple to start, don't add any other equipment such as gym balls. That extra instability could cause too much strain on smaller muscle groups.
Deffo solid excercises and great showing; clean and clear. Just remember to take them slowly and don't go all-in until you can keep your balance and positioning in all of these :D. Posture and correct movement are worth ten times more than simply getting a certain nr of reps.
Hey guys: absolutely! Since the core is such an integral part of all physical activity you do, it is one of my favourite muscle groups to focus on. In addition to the ones you guys uploaded, I also really enjoy the Russian Twist (a floor version of the window wiper basically, but changing the methodology and also being able to choose level of difficulty by additional weight and choosing to balance on your backside or feet down to start with). And another one I always add is the 'Bent-over Barbell Row', more upper back but certainly core stability and lower back (part of the core) come well in to play, something really assisting with the positions and long term endurance on a road bike :). Thanks again for all your awesome videos and especially training tutorials in general, keep up the good work! (P.S. not sure how you guys are with linking to other YT channels so I will refrain from doing so, though I can always send a direct link to you all and you can have a look privately, then maybe incorporate personal variants or make your own more bike oriented video towards it).
Ah, now we know why when the bike fit man tested your flexibility, he said "ah Emma you are quite flexible ya?" Looks hard, let's give it a go! Thanks for the well-explained video. Tim
I've never done core work and now I'm paying for it. Hip,back and shoulder problems, 2 years off the bike and only slowly getting back into. Do these to avoid injuries in your old age !
Even though some of these are helping your lower back, you should really never feel any strain in your lower back as that can lead to injury. Make sure you feel it in your front and oblique core along with the glutes. From someone with a stress fracture, and lots of experience fixing back injuries with core exercises.
I already knew that flexibility isn't one of my strong points but I look like and absolute grandpa doing these exercises. Huffing and puffing, even worse, I keep falling off the ball! Never mind, I'm sticking at it, the results will be worth it. One question though, should I do the plank and bridge exercises just once per day, so just 1x60sec plank and 1x60sec bridge?
As a trainer/ cyclist I use all those exercises with the exception of one: Dips on the ball. Most people will screw up their shoulders that way! Triceps are not " core" and there are many excellent, safe ways to strengthen them that won't extend the shoulder dangerously .
I don't know anything particularly interesting. Sets of 20 leg raises until I go over 200. Then keep going some more without counting as I've been too lazy to figure a way out to increase the difficulty, so I just keep adding more repetitions and it ends up eating up my time. I couldn't do a proper 10 the first month. 2 minute planks with one leg raised. Then sideplanks. Again, lacking any sort of method I make sure I've done more than 4 repetitions of each and the rest is bonus. 20 push ups until I reach at least 200. If I'm still good to go for more I continue without counting. We have almost untouched calisthenics equipment a few meters from where I live, but I could never be bothered to train where I can be seen in public. I could definitely use some more advanced exercises instead of adding more time/repetitions to the same old stuff.
The universe is telling me to stop ignoring the fact that taking up cycling even more seriously has actually made me neglect my core, leading to back problems. I really need to make the time to do this again. I used to have really strong abdominals but I know they have gone to flab comparatively.
I've learned a lot of awesome cycling tips from you guys, and certainly have been entertained, but your "exercise" videos were, hum, subpar. Not this one, really good core exercises, and well explained.
Alright guys, there's only 3 exercises you need to do if you which to become a powerhouse cyclist: Squats Deadlifts Goodmornings No Smith machine. Barbell only, bros. And dont forget to stretch well, too.
Do you have a regular core workout? Let us know how you get on with Emma's exercises in the comments!
Yes, I do. I work in a cycling shop warehouse :D
Emma, Thanks from Russia! We're watching your channel. Good luck to you and your team. Emma, I want to clarify, to see you not only in western Russia, but also in eastern Siberia. Thank you for your work.
I do hip thrusts but not sure how this helps in cycling... PS: Did Emma get those grazes falling off the exercise ball?
Fair point there Marcin!
Global Cycling Network thanks Emma I'm a newbie to cycling I do planks and lift weights 4xs a week
Emma is a real badass. Bruises all over knees and knuckles and the lady still does windscreen wipers as if it is nothing. Hats off to her 🎩
I love how Emma doesn’t wear makeup and dresses normally, not playing up her sex appeal more than the guys do. I’ve never seen a TH-cam channel where a woman is just herself, talking about her expertise, without the need to be all made up, too. We need to be reminded how beautiful women are in their “natural state”-Emma certainly is!
Fit bodies are attractive at (almost) any age. And I wholeheartedly agree on the rest.
She does it less than the guys, is Si's hair is anything to go by.
:)
I like your comment about Emma. Her fitness, health and demeanour seem so natural. She also seems very bright, modest and determined amongst other apparent attributes. It all adds up to a great package! Go Emma!

I've been doing the basic version of this for about 3 weeks now and am already seeing noticeable gains on my commute. Thanks
Emma is seriously my new hero, and she's motivating me a lot to get out there and just do it.
That's great Katie! 👊
For some reason I find Emma's exercise videos incredibly motivating. Whether it's the down-to-earth presentation, or the fact that I'll never doubt her expertise --it works!
Stability ball and pull-up bars are in the mail order, I can't wait to get started!
Totally get having bruises after a crash and still keeping up training - that's the real spirit!
As a physio I can’t recommend these exercises enough, Emma is absolutely right and sums it up perfectly at the end, thank you!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it!
I was just looking to up my cycling for mountaneous cycling. This is what I needed, thanks!!
Emma is such a great addition to the show!
Cheers Thomas!
@@gcn where is she now?
I love the exercises. Thank you for the video. As an Aussie we really get behind our own athletes and are mentally conditioned that every other competitor is a sworn enemy. Emma comes across as such a knowledgeable person that is just so nice
Excellent advice Emma. I have been slipping in my core work and you’ve inspired me to get back at it.
Hello Emma I’m a cyclist and horse rider particularity bareback riding, and I find this video very helpful cause I have a stability ball as well so I’m gonna do these exercises to build my core strength up thank you.

CAIrondad Glad you enjoyed the exercises, let us know when you give them a go! Emma had a small crash but she is okay 👍
I always do the first two. To me plank variations are the best for core strength. Theres so much you can do with just a stability ball
Very true nikesbeast, let us know how you get on with the other exercises!
Emma you are without a doubt my favorite on GCN, I think your knowledge of cycling is a breath of fresh air. Also I think that your a beautiful woman.
I'm always looking at core exercises to help with cycling & running and Emma's list has some new and challenging variations. Excellent, Emma!
Cheers Randy, let us know when you add them to your routine!
Great strength and ab definition Emma! Would enjoy hearing your views on mobility exercises...
tymbrimi0 Glad you enjoyed it!
Emma, many thanks, I do daily core and will try to add some that were in your show...
Great stuff Richard for adding core exercises into your routine! Let us know how you get on with Emma's new exercises!
Everytime I see Emma I click immediately
ME TOO!!!! :)
Emma, thanks for motivating me to get my exercise ball out of the far corner of my basement. Did some of the planks last night. Man, they are tough! I set a few goals for the end of the month. Goal 1. Be able to talk after the first 10 seconds!
Man, those wipers are tough. Great set of exercises
Emma is a fantastic presenter and a great addition to the GCN stable
Cheers!
Thanks Emma for this vid! Really nice exercises, love how they are tailored to cycling, as well!
I agree! They are surely that but I am not that fit for find it out.
Tommi Himberg Great stuff! Will you be incorporating these into your training routine?
A great set of exercises. Cheers for the video.

Emma’s core is very impressive but then her climbing is insanely good. Makes it look so easy when it’s not!
Emma, impressive stability throughout those exercises.
Sorry about that elbow damage.
💪

She has a killer core!!
10 Windscreen wipers ??? Omg...that's impressive!
Yep I bet she's stronger than everyone at GCN, and probably GTN too! Those core exercise are great though
When you can do it 10 times...DO IT MORE!!!!...great video Emma and GCN!
Joel Klingenberg Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great functional exercises! Thanks Emma. :)
Let us know if you give them a go!
I want to see Emma making Si do those sets 🤣
GCN gym challenge..
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!!!!
That's a great idea...
My gut tells me that Emma would smoke any challengers in a fitness challenge...
I thought exactly the same thing - would that show the 'when you first start doing these core exercises...' situation?
Emma is badass! I was really waiting for this video to improve core strength, thanks so much and keep the videos coming Emma!
Glad you enjoyed the video Carlo, let us know when you give the exercises a shot!
great excersizes, but just try the plank for 3x 1 minute, does the trick for me when i start cycling 👍👍👍👍👍
THANK YOU!
Let us know if you give the exercises a go!

And take care of that elbow.....!
David Brazzeal Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for these. Can you explain more about why these are helpful for climbing specifically? Or is it really any out of the saddle position?
Hi Alan, the exercises help with cycling in general, but specifically climbing out the saddle.
Dang girl you are good. Thanks for the tips
Emma's awesome!!! Informative!!
Cheers Joe, what is your favourite exercise?
emma
you got a great core
Ah, now we know why when the bike fit man tested your flexibility, he said "ah Emma you are quite flexible ya?" Looks hard, let's give it a go! Thanks for the well-explained video. Tim
Glad you enjoyed the video Tim!
I've never done core work and now I'm paying for it. Hip,back and shoulder problems, 2 years off the bike and only slowly getting back into. Do these to avoid injuries in your old age !
Cheers Malcolm!
Great for physical therapy!
Is using a rowing machine any good for your core muscles?
You are killing me, Emma.
i started doing the plank and reverse ab curls/leg raises a month ago and it has made a differance
Great stuff Tim!
respect. Emma makes those look easy & they certainly aren't
Some tough exercises Carl, have you given them a go?
The bent knee back extension exercise could get a bit nasty for your nose if your feet slip.
Even though some of these are helping your lower back, you should really never feel any strain in your lower back as that can lead to injury. Make sure you feel it in your front and oblique core along with the glutes. From someone with a stress fracture, and lots of experience fixing back injuries with core exercises.
Great tips. Thanks and have a fun race
Thanks Moy!
Emma, 1:19: "When THAT gets easy, ..." {record screech in my brain} UUUUHHHHHHH, okay?! ;-)
Looks like the little hill beast had a spill. Hate to see you scuffed up but glad your OK Emma. ;)
after Matt had left, did Emma step up and volunteer for the position of Queen of spills, or was she forced into it?
I already knew that flexibility isn't one of my strong points but I look like and absolute grandpa doing these exercises. Huffing and puffing, even worse, I keep falling off the ball! Never mind, I'm sticking at it, the results will be worth it.
One question though, should I do the plank and bridge exercises just once per day, so just 1x60sec plank and 1x60sec bridge?
Damn! The Doctor's got some impressive core strength.
#VCut
Wow
15mins twice a week..... im in!
Great Ian, let us know how you get on!
Emma is not really a cyclist. She was an agent for MI6 and she made very bad people do these exercises.
Stuart Dryer Emma for the next James Bond. 🔫🤵
Damn dude, you weren't supposed to tell, that was classified. No pudding for you!
does anyone know what type of watch emma is wearing?
I would pay good money to see Si, Dan and Lasty doing these.
Me *before watching the video* : oooh a cyclist exercise
Me *after watching the video* : NOPE
0:36 Exercises I can do from my sofa, this I can get behind.
🤔
Okay, so now I feel guilty for not training with one of these balls. Thanks, Emma.
As a trainer/ cyclist I use all those exercises with the exception of one: Dips on the ball. Most people will screw up their shoulders that way! Triceps are not " core" and there are many excellent, safe ways to strengthen them that won't extend the shoulder dangerously .
Hey Derek, which is your favourite core exercise?
If the previous intro with Si didn't inform us, this is the proof of Emma's pro strength core.
💪
Bring Emma back to GCN .. ☹️
I don't know anything particularly interesting. Sets of 20 leg raises until I go over 200. Hopefully, you found Emma's exercises very useful then 👍
I had to play the video 3 times to understand what " crossh tree training '' was :)) After I put subtitles and was ''Cross stability training " :))
what type of watch is she wearing?
The universe is telling me to stop ignoring the fact that taking up cycling even more seriously has actually made me neglect my core, leading to back problems. I really need to make the time to do this again. I used to have really strong abdominals but I know they have gone to flab comparatively.
Hey reddaB, hopefully, these exercises will help you build up your core muscles 👍
That watch is HUGE
I've learned a lot of awesome cycling tips from you guys, and certainly have been entertained, but your "exercise" videos were, hum, subpar. Not this one, really good core exercises, and well explained.
Emma is strong as all hell. Straight up made of wood.
I think I will wats the harm.pat from Belgium 🚲
This is great, perfect for runners flirting with ultra distances.
Alright guys, there's only 3 exercises you need to do if you which to become a powerhouse cyclist:
Squats
Deadlifts
Goodmornings
No Smith machine. Barbell only, bros. And dont forget to stretch well, too.
Has a certain Emma had a get down on the bith bike? I Still think I fancy Emma!
Oh my God Emma, I thought those exercises were easy, but how can you even talk while doing them??
