Yo Puffer, just letting you know Sun Wukong's voice is like that because he's not meant to be this deep-voiced, serious dude. He's meant to be a playful, airy, not a care in the world, 'I am him and I know it' typa guy.
Exactly - and not only that, but his voice is based on the voice performance by Sun Wukong in the classic Journey to the West drama from the 1980's. And tbh, it's like people have never heard monkeys shriek and scream in real life lol I imagine if they could talk, they'd sound exactly like Sun Wukong in the game
And, the English is just, why? I don't understand why someone would play the most Chinese game of all time and not play in...Chinese. I'm just surprised that almost everyone seems to be playing in English. I thought we made fun of dub watchers lol

Pretty sure he ate like hundreds of not thousands of peaches of immortality, most people count all of it as one layer but if you were to count them separately he would have thousands of layers of immortality

I worked in China for a while and they get like two friggin Wukong movies a year, it's definitely one of the most recurring pop culture themes there. Glad we finally get to see some of it here in the western world, we never get games in those kinds of universes.
whenever a game starts with your character at the main screen, and then when you start it and it doesnt go black and switch to a different scenery, and it seamlessly transitions into the game/gameplay. you KNOW its finna be a fuckin banger game.

The black dog at the intro is Erlang Shen (The God Erlang)'s hound, Xiaotian Quan (Howling Celestial Hound). He's a mythological being/character in Journey to the West, Investiture of The Gods, and other legends involving Erlang Shen. The ancient Chinese believed that eclipses were due to the hound devouring the sun/moon. In Journey to the West, the hound prevents Sun Wukong's escape from Erlang Shen by biting his leg. The natural fear that monkeys have of dogs is often attributed to this enmity between Sun Wukong and the celestial hound.
The hound has a third eye for his character design in this game, most likely because Erlang Shen also has a third eye! The shadows on its body as it moves is also probably homage to the eclipse lore.

The wkukong at the beginning of the story is when her fights the champions including Erlang Shen. The story takes a lil bit different turn after that but bro in the actual story gains several other types and layers of immortality and then fights several gods 20+ of which were constellation gods. At the end of JTTW he literally becomes stronger than Buddha

This game takes place in the downtime between sun wukong getting trapped in the mountain and the child from the stars releasing him so that the monkey can be his unwilling bodyguard

@BiotechnologyDude im not sure where the game ends, but the beginning sequence starts with the battle that traps wukong, so i believe it to be. Im not sure how much of wukongs story is told in journy to the west, im no literary expert. Watch overly sarcastic productions if you want a good synopsis of the journy to the west story.
I’m pretty sure this takes place after Journey to the West. Wukong says that his master and the scriptures are safe and sound. He also mentions The Pig. This all suggests that he’s already gone on the journey and came back for the run back against heaven.

It is actually pretty good with referencing things of Chinese Mythology. Not one to one, obviously, but it does a good job. Speaking as someone who is Chinese and is in love with Sun Wukong (the mythology).

anyone know why my PC cant run this game, used to able to run games like cyberpunk and fortnite with no issues, now i just get tearing, low FPS and shit quality. temps are fine under load on this game, running 57-65C GPU and CPU under 60c. 24gb ram. it is like 4 years old now so maybe could be SSD, should i reinstall windows? montiors are plugged into GPU , drivers have been updated so idk what it is

Some believe that Sun Wukong originally was from India, as he has very similar traits to Hanuman(the warrior god/master of fighting)
Well in the cannon the place of his birth is quite concrete. The speculation of his inspiration being India’s Hanuman is quite modern, like mid 20th century. For literature on Hanuman didn’t spread into China the way some others did.
