- Marc Davis tells us about the soon-to-open attraction The Haunted Mansion. Also, Museum of the Weird.
Rolly Crump mentions never build Museum of the Weird.
You can see the New Orleans Square video under "Pirates of the Caribbean Construction - Part 1". Although that video is of the re-run that was aired after Walt died, it is basically the same as the original (that is, until you hear a voice over narration). I will post up the minor differences in a separate video.
I think he'd be more than satisfied with the finished attraction. The Haunted Mansion has by far some of the best illusions and effects out of any other attraction of its time. Even to this day it still holds up.
I agree. Thank god they haven't ruined the Haunted Mansion. For some reason, I feel like this is one of the only rides that will stand the test of time, and won't be removed or altered too significantly. This ride has historic importance by this point. It's land-mark within the park itself. Thank you to the imagineers that oversee the haunted mansion, and keep it spooky. Just as Walt and the other designers would have wanted.
He always gets confused! "What do we call it? House of illusions? - Marc: Tha Haunted Mansion... Then with crump, he does it again! He was such a great person.
It gives chills just hearing walt disney say the names of the attraction... "The Haunted Mansion"... it just let's you know that out of all attractions to make Walt wanted the Haunted Mansion, but family friendly horror style
It's too bad that Walt Disney never saw the Haunted Mansion complete. It opened on August 9, 1969. Just less than 3 years after his death.
The way Uncle Walt says "ten-cennial", every time with a pause and a slight nod... isn't it sweeet 🥰?
I looove the Haunted Mansion. Its in my top 3 favorite Disneyland rides. Its so great to see it in the development, and with Walt himself....thanks so much for uploading.
I honestly did not know the Mansion was that far along when Walt was still alive.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!! :D This as well as Pirates of the Caribbean are two of Uncle Walt's greatest attractions.:)
@DatKittyCat _ ... What the fuck?
Thanks for posting this. I love the old Disneyland TV shows, pre-Eisner, of course.
This is the Personal Touch by Walt Disney has on Disneyland that the other parks do not have.
I love how Disney actually made a wanted ad for spirits to live in the haunted mansion when it opened. Disney was so great and its sad to see how much of the magic that he made has kinda turned into a profit making scheme.
Gotta be one of my favorite videos regarding The Haunted Mansion and Uncle Walt. Love the silly way that even before the Mansion opened, some of the objects were haunted. And Rolly lives the next city over from me in Carlsbad, California!
and the wagon designed for the weird museum is now a Madame Leota Wagon outside the Haunted Mansion in WDW.
It is the same design but it sells HM stuff and NBC stuff
Hearing Walt say my name .... #Priceless ... even though it’s spelled different #TooCool
A lot of the subtleties in the stretching portraits have been unfortunately lost over the years. The original paintings wore down with all the stress of the stretching room pulling and rubbing on them all the time. They have to be replaced by copies (sometimes much poorer quality copies) every few years after they fade. So it's more than possible that Davis' original work has a far greater level of detail than what you might see today.
Great Video!
wow, I didn't know they had that much done while Walt was alive. I know they were planning it when he was still there but I thought he died before they got that far. Excellent video
v No, he said "We got all kinds of ghosts y'know."
We've been holding back and saving our Haunted Mansion coverage! So far, we've covered Expedition Everest and POTC on PipersPicksTV - but HM certainly is on the books!
Walt died in 1966, I thoght Pirates opened in '66, I was wrong. It opened in '67. But he did supervise both attractions.
Well, Disney hasn't abandoned the idea it seems, since D23 this year, Disney and Marvel seems to hint a comic book that might lead into a movie that has been planned for awhile or maybe realize Walt's idea for the ride
R.I.P. Rolly
It was never built. But I think that some of the "weird" items were placed as props in a restaurant...
👻👻💀☠😛 walt Disney what a great man rip😇
FUNFACT: Walt had to build this attraction, because of all the accidents on The Matterhorn.
Actually Walt never saw the actual opening of Pirates of the Caribbean. He died December 15th 1966 and Pirates opened March 18 1967.
It does.
Is that a riding crop that Miss Rheim is carrying?! (must not think dirty thoughts)
wow i havent seen this footage forever! did you get it from doombuggies??
This is more proof that they knew what was going into the Haunted Mansion before he died and not years later afterwards as the company wants you to think.
Yeah I was just reading last night from a disney website "Unfortunatey, Walt never got to see most of these things in action" Well apparently he did! I think he kept a close watch over everything in that park. This makes me happy.
thanks
I thought he died in 66. But that's not the point. In this video, he was obviously still alive when they were working on Haunted Mansion. He died before they finished, but they aparantly had more drawn out then I thought before he died
Haha, that was a concept series of paintings that showed a man's eyeballs growing bigger and bigger until they became a singular eye. Never made it to the Mansion but wow it sure does look like Wall-E! LOL
link this video please i can no longer find it on youtube
2:45 She doesn't sound convinced
I'm sure this was posted already but where was this bit from? Is it from a documentary?
No, Walt died in 1966, and both Pirates and the Mansion were his idea. Only, Walt saw Pirates copleted, He died before the Mansion was completed. It finaly opened Aug of 1969. Just a bit of Disneyland trivia
look at the pictures above there head at 0:50, it looks like Walle, LOL
At 2:44 did Walt just say "shit"?!?! @.@
i think he said "we have all kinds of ghosts, y'know." he sort of mumbled it so i see why it sounds like that.
Although to be fair, walt was a grown man living in the 40's-60's, he wasn't an absolute stranger to swearing.
Disney would never see how the haunted house would become so ... scary :))
😍😍😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍
Holy crap! Did Walt have something to do with a movie that would come out forty years later? JK. Some what LOL
Who’s the woman in the riding gear?
Walt Disney was the greatest man!
You speak English better than some Americans. There's no need to apologize.
No, he didn't. It was the people he hired who failed to do their job properly.
This is the most awkward promotional film I've ever seen. Walt were they thinking?
Walt's taking pictures. She's got the riding crop. They seem excited. OK then.
They really gotta update that mansion.
Walt killed his mom, but shes in the mansion now so it's all good
I hope to one day meet Walt DIsney in Heaven.
