The key is to do pomodoro but don’t put a timer, start studying and whenever you check the time and realize it’s been 25 mins or 50mins, if you feel like taking a break, take it, if not, don’t take it

I agree, I do this way too. I work at least 25 mins, but I can work more if I'm in the flow. Sometimes it's hard to force mysfelf to accomplish the 25 mins, but this is the point of Pomodoro, to force ourselves to do the task. This can be counterproductive occasionally when you cannot focus for 25 mins, then you should reduce the duration. But if we remove the forcing, nothing remains. Then it's not a "technique" anymore, you can just freely do whatever you like, and you have no aid to motivate yourself, what is the purpose of Pomodoro.

Even when I tried pomodoro few months back, I felt that I was l studying for the sake of completing the time slot rather than enjoying and getting immersed in it. This video is very accurate. Pomodoro does suck at times..!

I've tried 90 minutes study- 20 minutes break pomodoro sessions. Works great for me. I can be in the state of flow, but then also get a break. Try doing this, too.
Or better, try 3 hours study- 30 minutes break sessions

    • @prathamyadav2508
      @prathamyadav2508 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Struggling Human Then do 90-20 pomodoro sessions.
If you feel like you can continue without a break, you're free to do that.
There shouldn't be any restrictions to your study methods. Study the way you feel the best!

Tbh what you told is so damn true! Especially for all medicos. Though I have never studied through Pomodoro technique, I've always felt it's best to go with the flow.
For example, you are trying to study PSM from Park, and it takes you 30 minutes to even 'get in the zone', let alone take a break immediately after the 30 minutes!
So, study till whenever your brain is in the 'zone', take a quick break and get back to studying.

I think people who criticize or dismiss the Pomodoro techique are just too rigid about it. It is not a divine law. Most apps designed for the techinque let you input your own time intervals, And you still can ignore the timers after a while. The whole point of Pomodoro is just to break through the initial resistance and lower the cognitive load of having a huge task in front of you as this guy described in the begining of the video. His whole "flowtime" thing is notheing more then just "observe your own patterns" which is just what anyone with common sense does when using the Pomodoro Techinque anyways.

The reason you might not want to use the flow state to learn new things is that flow does not trigger neuroplasticity (source: Huberman Lab Podcast). Thus, if you want to retain as much information/knowledge as you possibly can, you always want the study sessions to be uncomfortable (due to you pushing yourself, not because of a timer). In these cases, flow might be suboptimal.

Now I have solution for those who guilt for not using pomodoro technique effectively.
First I think if you are studying and want to use pomodoro replace your break time with recalling your self what have you done in that previous 25 min.
Close your eyes, stable your breathing and just recall all the stuff you have gone through in 25 min like you are watching video.....

Some works are set 10min.. Sometimes 120minutes. As per requirement. I rarely set my pomodoro for 25minutes.

25minutes is so less when you study specially for someone in such a profession. I'm a dentico ✌️ and usually when studying with pomodoro i do with 1hr or 1.5hr study time

Both are far too rigid. Either method is fine but ditch the fixed times, particularly the long breaks, and especially ditch the journal. I prepare for a session to work on something unpleasant or hard, start a 15 minute (arbitrary because of the timer I use) alarm, and start working. When it goes off, I am almost always surprised how it wasn’t as unpleasant or hard as I expected. Then I just start the timer again and continue. After two or three periods like that, I usually ditch the timer and just continue working. I stop when I want or need to. Done. It’s a great self-discipline technique. Journal??? Why waste the time?

I enjoy pomodoro but I like longer study sessions so I can get lost in the work. I don’t enjoy starting to understand a subject and then getting interrupted quickly.

Hey! I'm a doctor in India currently pursuing my MD in Pathology (3rd year)...and I completely agree to what you're saying...I tried Pomodoro several times but it never worked for me because it started feeling like a chore ...just came across your channel and subscribed...wish I'd stumbled upon your channel earlier :)

This Video Made My Day! I started using the pomodoro technique recently and yesterday I worked relentlessly using it. But it made me remember my school exam days when I had to stick to a timetable thing even when I don't want to do it.
And you know what happened today....
I was unable to sit for even 5minutes. I am a video editor and I love my work but cause of taking those frequent 5 min breaks and blocking myself inside a time zone made me feel like this is a thing I hate, cause I want to be free. And right now I was just searching for better pomodoro timers(I didn't know till now why I am unable to work) and found this video in the recommendations. Thanks a lot, Man! Thanks a lot. I am gonna go with my previous thing i.e, Flowtime!

You are absolutely correct.Whenever I stop midway during my study session ,my focus breaks and it takes me again 20-25 mins to focus properly on what I was doing. So in my opinion also flowtime is best.

Agree with each and every point taken up in this video.
On the other hand I would like to share 1 of my experience that says otherwise.
I love to sing and study. But in the initial stage of learning something when it is completely new to you or up and untill the work/topic u studying doesn't get clarity inside your head, the flow does not come.
Because there are so many connceting dots that ur mind is missing till u get a better picture of what is going on in particular subject.
What i mean to say is the flow does not come in 1st time. And that is where pomodoro helps.
It doesnt mean u hate that topic/subject/hobby. Its just that you dont have those connecting stories/dots/explanations yet. But to reach there you will have to keep going. Hence use pomodoro.
After that you are in zone

thanks for commenting this i was searching a perfect comment for neet taking students .do u have any advice on which topic should i choose first hard or moderate ones because sometimes pomodoro helps me to get down to study for 50 mins and 10 mins break,,should i use only for 6 months to get into flow to get balanced state,

    • @jypandeyji1064
      @jypandeyji1064 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@srijankumar5773 thank you for appreciating Srijan. I wont be able to help on suggesting topics of NEET because I am a Chartered Accountant student. However, I would suggest you to first go through your syllabus first time to get understanding first. You should be able to understand the topics and summarise the "essence". Then for second time try finding the connecting dots you were missing the first time. And there you are.... With a good flow and interest in your subjects

  • @ranvirdesai1843

    Animedoro represent here.
Do work till task finishes, 45-60 minutes. Then watch an anime episode by skipping intro/end. So it's a 20 minutes break to the brain, and you look forward to taking the break.
It doesn't even feel like you're working, but you get work done. This, of course may not work for everyone.
