For some suggestions/inspiration, I put my zines that I'm working on (ones that are WIP), I got a cheap A5 binder and some clear inserts to store it (there's a lot of cheap A5 binders that are used for Kpop photocards on Amazon that can be repurposed for mini 14 or 16 page zines). For the zines that I've gotten from other people, I use them as wall/hanging decoration in my room (I have some ribbon I put up along my room, and use paper clips to put up my zines so that I can always get them down whenever I feel like re-reading them). ^^

And then I saw one of your videos on zines and I was like oh this is perfect. I let small incidents in my life dictate the booklets that I make. [STORY TIME] Anyone else who lives in NYC understands the strange, imbalanced inter-borough beefs. When Captain America: Civil War hit theaters, I watched it with friends from Queens and friends of Brooklyn, which is innocuous enough and shouldn't be a point of note except for the fact that very much like a Brooklynite, Captain America prompts Spider-Man for where he's from. Spidey, just trying to get through his day as any Queensperson does gives him a straight answer, "Queens", and without being asked, Cap informs him that he's from Brooklyn. Suddenly, it wasn't just Civil War on the screen, it was Civil War in the seats as all the Brooklynites in the audience rallied with their "YERRR"s and "BROOOOOOKLYYYYYN" and their Jay-Z hand signs and whatnot. Non-NYCers, this was a microcosm of the Brooklyn-Queens experience. I grew up in BK and live in Queens, so I have an affinity for both, but I can also admit the absurdity of borough loyalty. It was then that I challenged my BK friends to name 10 Brooklyn neighborhoods. They named their neighborhoods and the ones close by easy enough, but 8 through 10 were harder to name. Long story long, I used this to create a booklet that challenges the reader to guess whether a named location is a Brooklyn neighborhood, a Queens neighborhood, or a level in Spyro the Dragon just to through an element of randomness in there which actually tricks a good number of people. No, Fracture Hills is NOT a cushy town in Queens, it's a place where anthropomorphic Scottish fawns play the bagpipes once you free them from their stone prisons! I give a little information about each neighborhood for once readers have given their guess so it has a degree of infotainment there. I turned a cute little moment into a full idea. Hopefully this helps someone with creator's block. You never know what gems lie in your own memory banks.

I found your videos and now I’m forcing (not really) my students to make zines and they are having so much fun. A lot of them don’t have a chance to be creative so it’s so cool to give them a chance to do something they enjoy.

I came across your channel last week & so far I've made 6 zines (3 of them today). Some will be great for putting in junk journals that I love to make, others have helped me vent my spleen about growing older, the menopause, mental health, Covid & people who bring nothing to the table.... I keep all my ideas in the Google Keep notes app on my phone. I've just sorted them into categories such as Art-forward, Ancient Rome, Personal History, Raaaaaaaandom, etc. I have 53 different potential zines in there!

Thank you so much!! I use an Epson Eco Tank 3760 and I always use 24lb copier paper (I find that the print comes out better than standard 20lb copier paper)
What you said at the end about everyone making a zine with the same words reminded me of a draw this in your style. Is that a thing in the zine world too? Or a prompt list like Peachtober for everyone to work from. That would be fun. I'm not sure if that exists already. I'm pretty new to zines. Does anyone have advice and tips for scanning and printing color zines at FedEx or office depot?
Yes there is a thing called zinetober on Instagram! I used to work at FedEx and recommend printing with them behind the counter rather than self service (better quality) Also, if you plan on printing 100+ copies ask them about “bid orders” Bid orders save you a LOT of money when you order in bulk like that bc we send them to a warehouse and print costs go down a lot. You just may have to wait a day or two for pick up. Really worth it if you need a bunch of copies!!
do you have a video or info on how you do your first draft/layout? i'm just getting started making zines & i'm having trouble figuring out how much i can fit on a page or how big i should make certain elements. also, my handwriting sucks so i think i'll end up typing a lot of the text or using letter stickers, maybe.
I don’t think I have any videos on that bc you really learn just by exploring it yourself and seeing what works! 🥰 However since you’re new to zine making you may not know the page sizes. So a mini zine page is about 3x5 inches and a folio (bigger) zine page is roughly 5.5x8.5 so those are the measurements you wanna keep in mind when decorating. Lots of people use typed words, stickers, stamps, or even magazine cutouts in place of handwriting. All of it is super creative, so whatever you choose I know it will look awesome. I have a collection that I keep in clear shoe boxes that I buy from the dollar store! I also display them on my “zine shrine” that I created above my fireplace. I am making a video about this soon bc another viewer requested to see how I store all my zines, etc.
I usually upload zines to a pdf or google Doc then email them to whoever wants to trade or purchase it! You can also create an online archive like this and lead ppl to a link with all these PDFs. I will also just share entire zines on Instagram or TikTok and use zine hashtags 😊
