  • Here's one of Waste Management of Gaithersburg's old Peele trucks working a semi-auto trash route out in Potomac. I'm surprised that WM hasn't repainted this truck. It still has all the same paint and wrap as it did when it arrived from Canada, besides a couple new door stickers and USDOT info.
Thanks to the cool driver for letting me film!
    Thanks for watching!

Wow, it only took me two years to watch this… awesome to see more Peel trucks in the US. Cool to see him double siding and driving from both sides too!

Thanks! I've always wanted to see somebody properly use these stand up drive M2s before, it seems around here the route is always too spread out to need one.

Really cool to see these trucks lived second lives elsewhere. They're from 2006, however they were mostly regulated to yard waste collection which meant only about 8 months of use a year, with bi-weekly collection for 3 of those 8 months so even less usage during those months. I'm from Peel Region and Waste Management had been the collection contractor since purchasing the operation from Laidlaw in the late 90s and WM held the contract until the end of 2015. Unfortunately WM has pretty much lost all of its municipal collection contracts in Southwest Ontario. Waterloo Region was another big one they lost around the same time as the Peel contract. I worked as a pitcher during the tail end of WM's contract in Peel Region. The yard these trucks operated out was called Wentworth Hauling in the City of Brampton. For the last 10 years of the Peel contract they operated 58 McNeilus single stream RLs (RP100-RP157), of which I spent the majority of my time on and primarily on garbage. Then they had 67 tandem axle dual-stream 70/30 split Universal Handling Equipment RLs (RP200-266) for recycling and food waste collection. They also had 14 tri-axle dual-stream 70/30 split Universal Handling Equipment RLs with larger packer bodies than the tandem axles, they were numbered RP267-RP280, and they were also on recycling/food waste duties. Lastly were 29 of these McNeilus MSLs, numbered RP300 to RP328 and as I mentioned they were mostly regulated to yard waste collection. With the exception of the tri-axles, everything was on Freightliner M2 106 chassis, the tri-axle units were on Freightliner M2 112 chassis. I only worked on one of the McNeilus MSLs and was really excited at first, but I really didn't like it. For manual loading the hopper was just up way too high, and I'm 5'11", I feel sorry for shorter guys who had to work them. Pitching on a McNeilus RL was far easier.

Fantastic find! At first I was confused because this looked like a Canadian truck, but he had a US style high vis shirt on so I was a bit confused and then I read the description and it all made sense haha. Surprised to see one of these in 2018 but NOT complaining!!! Great hopper shots as well, really cool he had both doors open!

Thank you! This is a pretty interesting truck for the US, definitely a big Canadian feel to it. Might have been a first for me seeing both doors opened and used at once. Thanks for commenting!

Nice work man! This is such an unusual combo for a truck so it’s pretty neat to see these. Definitely enjoyed the shopper shots throughout the video as well as the Toter and yellow Otto that were in here. Overall really great video!

Stellar work, Tyler. I always love MSLs with conventional stand-up cabs. WM colour scheme looks noce on this truck and the Peele decals make it look soooo cool!
