Top tip don't do what mel did, dry fitted my window then masked up around it then removed it put sealant on the refitted then removed tape.....after I'd dropped a £500 window because I was too stubborn to ask for help...nobody is perfect
Watch a video on silicone sealers. We use a spray solution of water and washing up liquid to stray on the sealant that has splodges out and use a cut timber tool to remove the excess. 👍🏻
Loving your crack ,vibe..just starting youtube again after fighting cancer 3 years having all the videos before cancer..please have a. Mick the Specimen hunter. Just starting sharing again
Decorating tape around the edge before applying the adhesive. Then easy peel off
I agree, I watch loads of boaty youtubes and the first go to is masking tape. Sikaflex, masking tape ...lovely seam no mess. Obviously don't have to be sikaflex could be cheap alternative.
@michaelbradley-yorath9682 I used sikaflex for years, installing sculpture, loads of different really high end adhesives and sealants gor all applications. The Tiger seal does look like a great alternative, if you get sikaflex on anything, it isn't coming off.
Well done Mel, looking brilliant 👍
Don't be so hard on yourself, we all make mistakes when converting our vans. I'm sure you'll make it right soon enough.
Every time I use any of those sealants I seem to get it all over the place, great vid Mel, without ur vids I don’t think I could’ve built my campervan, u r a inspiration, keep going
I agree Mel has helped us out, too..😊
Thank you for the extremely kind words and all your support it really means the world to me 😁
I hate using anything liquid or gloomy, it's carnage mess everywhere, it's taken years to get a neat finnish, still carnage everywhere else.
You're doing great Mel . We all make mistakes ...
Nice fitting windows Mel. Well cut out. Now you have to go inside and clean up all those iron filings AGAIN. 😂
Yeah 👍 lol 😂
really glad you keep your mistakes in - and I bet the broom was glad the camera was rolling - hope they kept some pizza for ya 😋
Yeah I did get some eventually
A good tip as I’m an ex windscreen fitter is to put the bond into a bucket of hot water before you use it. Far better flow then Mel 👍🏼😉 Also I use Big Wipes to remove any excess bond.
That Vario is so ff-ing cool Mel, If I had a choice I would rather go your way for a max campervan than these big caravans with a motor and steering wheel. Absolutely.
Thank you 👍
Hey Mel, tape the area with masking tape making sure you leave the bonding area clear of tape. Once fitted remove the tape and the and the excess bonding material comes away nice and neat.
That's a good idea!
Definitely worth opening every package you get delivered to check for damages, especially windows
09:08 - ha ha ha THAT FART is epic! x
Glad it isn't smellovision.
I found a few German videos on TH-cam when researching these windows which led me to a product called dekaseal 8936. It’s like mastic in a caulking cartridge which stays permanently flexible. I used it on five windows on my van. When you tighten the screws the product squeezes out around the frame and it’s easy to remove by just dabbing a small bit around the edge which sticks to and pulls away the excess.
I used the dekaseal on my caravan when installing the skylight........ From Germany.
Masking tape in an appropiate distance from edges woul have made it a lot easier - protecting the paintwork, giving a straight edge, no hussle cleaning ...
Hi Mel, try using panel wipe instead of white spirit, you might find these reduces any staining using either of the products for fitting windows, van coming on a treat.
Regards
John
Whenever I use pu sealant I buy the strong industrial wet wipe things from toolstation (can’t remember what they’re called) they come in a cylinder tub where you pull one out at a time. They are NOT CHEAP but my god do they save some mess and make a neat job of it all.
I’ve sometimes ended up with sealant everywhere and make more of a mess when trying to clean it up than I started with.
With the wipes and a carrier bag, I wipe of all the excess and chuck the wipe straight in the bag, then when it’s time to get the colour off the paintwork I use the wipes more sparingly.
I also keep my surgical gloves clean by wiping the gloves off with the half used wipes before throwing them in the carrier bag.
Trust me, they’re well worth the money. I think they’re too expensive for everyday use but I always buy them when fitting windows etc with pu sealant
Mel, for further parts you may need, its worth giving Midland Leisure supplies a call. I was given some really good discounts on a lot of the stuff I bought for my Peugeot Boxer build.
They beat most of Magnums prices.
You did an amazing job Mel, so don’t be hard on yourself. I’m a buildings researcher and the only way to truly perfect a process is to try. Maybe it may go wrong, but then you learn how to correct it. That’s why it’s so important to know what the problems are before you repeat them. The windows look great.
Thank you for the positive feedback really appreciated 👍🤓👍
perhaps masking tape around cutout in bodywork to catch most of the extra sealant would help . It works for me😁
Great to see Becky again.
I use rubbing alcohol for removing sealant rather than white spirit Mel, it's much more effective.
I always overdo it with the sealant. It's a pain cleaning it after, but at least you know it water tight 👍🏼
Very true!🤣👍
Looking forward to seeing your van and meeting you at VLF...best get your skates on!
Excellent choice of window Mel, we fitted these in our Iveco Daily conversion.
Looking forward to seeing the completed van at Vanlife Festival, good luck with the build 👍
Awesome, thank you!🙏
should have used decorators tape mate! it would have been nice and neat 😊
Good night Mel I am glad you are enjoying your motor home build you make me happy and smile I watched all of your videos of you and motor home builds I hope you are all well and please keep your videos going on your you tube channel
Thank you for the positive feedback really appreciated 👍🤓👍
I’ve just done a micro camper for £1500 and now I’m out travelling around making my own videos 😊 thank you for all the help and inspiration you helped a lot in my build
Oh my goodness me that’s so incredible thank you for taking the time to comment and good luck on your TH-cam journey 👍🤓👍
There is a certain type of gun to use with the Masterbond. Something about the gearing.
I use acetone (my wife's cheap nail polish remover from Poundland), that gets the master bond off but test it on your paintwork first!
Good to know thanks 🙏
Excellent video Mel - everyone learns from mistakes 👍🏻
I once ordered 1000 bottles of tipex - it was a big mistake 😮😀😀😀😀
Maybe a nice vinyl frame around the window will do the trick, Mel. Don't feel bad. You are doing so well!!! 😇😇❤❤
I know how you feel mel...made several mistakes during my build...dont beat yourself up you will get it sorted ..my favourite sealant has to be MS11..when i built my toilet /shower area fixed the timber to floor with it...but i had a gap on one of the outside side panels and water was coming in..so i had to rip out the timber frame that was some job as ms11 sets like concrete...great video cant wait to see you luxury shower.
Black vinyl wrap 'shape' which incorporates the window, matched both sides, will hide any paint defects.
You could shape it to follow from the door windows. If you look at Solway's conversions you'll get an idea of what I mean.
PS, using those windows I found the thin mastic tape is great, then a thin bead of sikaflex right on the edge works well 👍
Sikaflex 221 black and meths to clean and jobs a winner for windows.
I use baby wipes for cleaning off silicone on boats straight after sealing windows etc. Then acetone to clean off any stains and left over residue
Talented man! You make this look easy Mel.
I appreciate that!
Travelling 4 treasure! What a trip!
Hi Mel, The best material I've found for clearing up silacones are the hand wipes you get in a tub from screwfix . Can't guarantee it would have worked with the sh-t you were using but they worked on any sealants I've used
Another ace video Mel! Van is coming on well 👍
Isopropyl alcohol is also great for removing plenty of sealants, it's also brilliant for cleaning sensitive electrical equipment. I'm amazed how many I've resurrected in the past 😂
evening mel.
ive been watching your videos for sometime now and i think you do a great job.
im a windscreen technician and have had my business for the last 38 years and have just finished.
i have some windscreen adhesive and various tools and primers that your welcome to have, i dont want anything for them, also have some betaclean which cleans the adhesive from the paint work correctly.
personally i wouldnt have used windscreen adhesive instead just sat them in silicone as they screw up from inside on frames, pretty much like skylights.
im more than willing to give out advice and to give you a few tips on the glass side of things should you want.
your nearly there with the installation of the windows you just need a bit of tweaking lol.
keep up the hard work with the videos and if you want take up the offer of some materials let me know and we can meet up sometime.
all the best wayne.
Nice one Mel, I can breathe easy again now. Well done. 👋🇪🇺🇺🇦🇬🇧
Wd40 methylated spirits isopropyl alcohol are good at cleaning stuff like that off. Love the windows good choice
Great video Mel
Thank you 😁
Love the windows, great choice... great video, Mel ..❤
Thank you im really pleased with them hope
You’re both doing well 👍🤓👍
'Great vid' Mel. :)
Thank you ☺️
Like a kid at Christmas well cant wait to see it finished keep up the grate worke mell . 2 German made vans put some big wheels and tyres that will make it cool
Thumbs 👍 before watching 🎉
Hope you enjoyed it!🙏
Looks fantastic bud love the windows 😊 next van will have windows like that. Love a viario but haven’t got the license.
Sorry only watching it now been busy rented a cottage ripped my whole van out to sort Aurora mess she caused and rebuilt it to make it practical around her as it was built to accommodate my four older whippets not a puppy whippet. Not finished but totally different 😊. Hope you’re both keeping well ❤
Il keep that tip about the tiger seal ❤
Thanks 👍
This is gonna help our vario conversion so much ! thanks
Glad to hear that!
CT1 multisolve would clean that up
Don't beat yourself up about that sealant it just makes you human Mel but they look good.
Great job Mel. And I feel your pain. Hope you can recover where it has stained. 👍
Thank you 👍
Fart wasn’t that bad
It's looking good Mel 👍
Thanks 👍
There good windows Mel, just fitted the very same one in my van. good choice. and still nice to see you have a guard on your grinder !!!! lovin the build
Thanks 👍
Great vlog Mel 👍
It looks good
Great vlog 👍
Be safe
Thank you 😁
nice one mel
If you're worried about having enough height for your bike to fit you could make a recess in the floor for the wheel to sit in. A lot of car manufacturers use this method.
Brilliant 👍
Great video mel
Thank you 😁
Looks wicked mate! Proper nice windows
Thanks 👍
Acetone is what you needed, but keep it off the plastic.
Masterbond is basically resistant to any solvent - like s on a blanket - no idea what would remove it - frog sweat or something similar.
Tcut or a tin of Silvo silver polish wadding will clean up the paint.
Mel, ive had the same, but 700 X 400 same make.. 5 years on, for now AOK. Sure beats the big brands that are many times more dearer
Would love more information on the hot water system you are doing - as I’m at that stage with my van (Fiat Ducato) conversion. Going to use a reducer 19mm to 16mm to hopefully solve the issue.
You need a solvent based compound to get Masterbond off. The very best stuff is the activator for Loctite, any of the numbers will do, I've got 7649. It evaporates very quickly so you've got to be fast, and wear gloves, it takes the oil out of your skin. Thinners works but it will attack your paint, the activator won't and it'll save you painting over the staining.
Halfords sell stuff to remove tar and stuff from paintwork. Worth a try.
Change hose tails to bigger ones on calorifier or heat exchanger depends what you want to call it you can get 1/2 male bspt to 3/4 19mm hose tails
Thanks 👍
Great windows .pleased you dint eat mel .as you wouldn't got them all in lol
Well Mel ... One good thing! - If Tiger-Seal don't Sponsor You HEAVILY after this episode - They're MENTAL!! .... GUTTED For You Mate 🤨🥴😵😵💫
Too late now but you should have masked the window aperture in Frog tape before sticking the window in. aye well, ner mind.
It looks great Mel , sorry about the sealant mate , hopefully just a little paint touch up and it'll look just fine , see you next week
Thanks 👍
Put a big stereo in and remove the windscreen blind and put a big light bar

Hellooooo Mel ❤😊
Mel get some solvent cleaner from a window manufacturer, much better than white spirit for cleaning.
Proper thinners take that off an a cloth ,done loads mate but I prefer tiger seal myself it does remove better.the mercedes is coming on nicely .looking forward for the next episode 👊
Thanks for the tip
@@BigVanSmallWorld might be just one of those days ,we all have 😂👊
Hi Mel, could you not use a T-cut on the painted surfaces to restore the colour back to normal.
Great video, Thanks
Need to pay me to watch too :-)
Hi,
Re: the calorifia;
could you use a 19mm barb to 16mm barb reducer (brass) to convert the pipe?
Great video.
Why didn’t you mask with frog tape around the aperture and thus not have any leakage on your paintwork?
If it has stained the paint T-cut maybe the answer
Its fine just paint the Van Black !!! Wont notice it at all
Windy in there Mel 😂
Did you need such strong sealant if the inside frame holds it tight? The Seitz windows I used came with metal clips to screw in place inside that held the window tight against the outside.
Maybe not 🤦♂️
Hi Mel
I don’t know if it will help but my truck got covered by tar when it was near a transformer that exploded
I eventually got it off with a soft cloth with a small amount of petrol then washed it with warm soapy water
That fart 😂😂😂
Ops I was ment to edit that out 🤣😂🤣👍
Mmmmm, I’m not so sure…..😮😂❤
Mel it looks pretty cold there??? What's the temp in the barn???? Is the Varios length similar to the sprinter long WB extended?
Looking Great don't beat yourself up,
May I ask Mel are you from Stroud or is some where you occasionally visit
I’m from Kent
Mel have you got drive tyres on the front steers ?
Yes 👍
Thank you Mel how about thinners to clean up that stuff , or just fart on it , it will come right off 😂maybe . I would have smashed the window and dented the van in my temper well done Mel for holding it together 👍 good luck 👍👍👍🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
Hahaha 🤪
Hi Mel, she is coming along nicely mate, can't wait to see how she comes along. Can I ask you a huge favour? Those seats from an "A" class Mercedes, I was hoping you would confirm if they fitted in a Mercedes Sprinter? If possible can you let us know as Sprinter seats cost a small fortune and from what I have seen on eBay you can get two seats in leather for around £250 each. Looking forward to your next vlog mate.
I’m not sure 🤔 sorry
@@BigVanSmallWorldHi Mel you did mention in one of your vlogs that one of the other chaps was fitting A class Mercedes seats in his van and when I asked you at the time you said you would do a follow-up. I know you have a lot on your mind LOL I forget too sometimes
Why didn’t you put masking tape round it?
Did you paint it that colour Mel or you going to change it? I think it would look cool in a mid to dark grey
I didn’t paint it but I’m thinking of redoing it in a more sandy colour 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I just looked at it and thought fuck I’d do it like RAF plane type grey. With them windows and all edges all black it would look mint mate.
I like the sandy colour idea too though. I’d love a vario and I’m strongly considering it
Hi Mel, totally unrelated question to your latest video, but what happened to the Noimacki app? I registered to be informed when it was launched but haven't heard anything for ages now. I'd forgotten but I've just started binge watching your videos from day one and just got to the one you did interviewing Julian and it reminded me.
I have no idea 🤷♂️
We need them lessons, to noone step m8
Wondering if anyone could answer this
I'm living somewhere with no space or tools to convert a van, I have absolutely 0 DIY knowledge unfortunately, and I'd love to give it a try but again without tools or a space to do it, it would be very difficult.
I was considering buying a van and paying for a simple conversion but a lot of the quotes I've seen on various websites are really overpriced.
I've had a look and I can afford a used vivaro long wheelbase van with about 40,000 miles on the clock.
I'd then pay someone to insulate the van and install a diesal heater, I'd buy a bluetti powerbank and diesal generator which would again save the hassle of installing a full wiring setup.
The rest, my girlfriend and I would just make do with it until I can save more money to get help with the rest of it in time.
The question that's burning on my mind, is if I pay someone to insulate the van would it then be a nightmare later on wiring the van after that has been done?
Many thanks
When i mentioned about the food preparation in the last videos you didn't need to go to the extreme and not eat for this one😂
There’s just no pleasing some people 🤣😂👍
