My partner is russian, so of course Dill has become a staple in our home. I've grown to love the stuf too That and sour cream, lol! Dill and cream cheese or dill in scramble eggs is spectacular. Thank you for this very informative video❤
I'm a modern day Dennis the Menace. Instead of taking off the side branches I let all of those go to seed as well as producing tons of seeds that will be collected and saved but a ton of them will go into a bird feeder that I'm gonna borrow so that I can Dillify my neighborhood so everyone can experience the Dill Weed. Gonna show these dick head neighbors with love and a very custom seed mixture. Watermelon seeds from 4th of July? Perfect that's enough for the whole fence line. Lemon grass went to seed? Mixture. Coriander? Mixture. Collard greens seeds? Mixture. Chili pepper seeds? Mixture. The only seeds I won't use are my precious rose bush that's finally seeding, that's exclusively for people who are invited to the BBQ.
My grandmother had such a green thumb, I would have loved to take up an interest in gardening when she shared that with me. I was in sugar and Disney channel world. Herbs haven’t been super easy for me to start, but my green onion looks pretty okay.
I put my dill seed heads in a paper bag for awhile then rubbed the seeds off. That made a lot of chaff. I do not recommend it unless you are either OCD or gluten for punishment. LOL Your paper plate system seems much wiser. Thank you. I'll do it on a paper plate on my other dill that is starting to flower now. I got about 3/4 full old pill bottle full of dill seeds from one plant. And it's not done yet. Same thing with basil. Goodness, I'm amazed about how many seeds you get.
Such a beautiful garden, love the zinnias, as they are one of my favorite flowers to plant. You have good advice, and obviously have been doing this for quite some time. Thank you for such detailed information on how to dry, and process the deal as well as the deal seeds for next season.

Hi, Thank´s for your instructions! What you show and how you present it is very good, maybe you could speed it up a bit by not repeating it. - We can rewind the video...
What part of Tennessee are you living in? I'm in north/middle - zone 6b/7a. This is my first year for growing dill, so I have a lot to learn about it - growing, harvesting, storing etc. I'm going to check at Walmart for that herb grinder.
I'm somewhat confused on Dill when mine goes to seed I get these tiny little round green seeds on those little flower heads and they don't look anything like Dill seeds that I buy to plant. Those are flat and brown and somewhat tear shaped. What is the difference?
@@tennesseeurbangarden9680 it is the bouquet variety but I think because I cut the flowers off when they were still green they produce these little balls instead of the seeds maybe?
@@tennesseeurbangarden9680 that's definitely what I did wrong then I was planning to use them to make pickles so I cut them off early and then the cucumbers weren't ready Lol...but Im just eating them in salads now...Ill know better next time😁
I like using dill and garlic in mashed potatoes. If you haven't tried it; DO IT! Its soooo yummy!
That sounds delicious!

Yes, dill is amazing! I'll have to try it in scrambled eggs, sounds delicious.

Thank you for your video. I only have 1 dill plant this year. I want to preserve as much as I can for future use.

Herbs are some of the biggest struggles... they are drama queens.
@@tennesseeurbangarden9680 I’d love some mint, cilantro, and rosemary on my patio, but if they’re temperamental I don’t have the energy to nurse them.

if u ever don't have a brillow pad, I use "goo gone" for removing that sticky stuff leftover from labels
Windex works too 😉
Thank you for such clear and understandable direction. I'm new to this and glad I found your video.

Very helpful video. Thank you for sharing. I also found that the magic bullet works well to grind dried dill.

There are many varieties of dill. You may have a different variety than what I have. But all the seeds form on the flower heads.
@@tennesseeurbangarden9680 it is the bouquet variety but I think because I cut the flowers off when they were still green they produce these little balls instead of the seeds maybe?
Yes, they do need time to mature on the plant before cutting. Most seeds are not ready until they dry out. I cut mine once they are completely brown.

Add dill and chili pepper flakes to chicken noodle soup and thank me later!
Sounds yummy 😋
How long is it good for n do you refrigerate? Or cabinet storage.
Once dried, I keep it in a cabinet in jars.
