- Exploring Japan on foot! Today, I’m walking from my Airbnb in a quiet town in Saitama Prefecture to the lively city of Kawagoe. Along the way, I cross the river, take in some amazing views, including a distant Mt. Fuji, and end up discovering a local arcade and an incredible ceramics shop. I also pick up some soba, tofu and daifuku from a shop called Shigezo, then try the daifuku out back at the apartment.
So join me on this trip through a slightly rural side of Japan and then through some urban shopping streets. I really liked Kawagoe and will definitely be back.
🎥 Apologies for the bright footage early on - working on fixing that, and the light flicker.

Kawagoe is amazing! I participated in the Float event last year October and they were so open and welcoming.
It's good that you are showing a "different Japan". A lot of people only get 3 impressions. The bustling cities, the serene countryside or the sightseeing attraction. With this new 'series', you are showing a different Japan just outside the bigger cities, closer to the normal life of the regular Japanese. Even though I believe Japan is a lot of copy and paste in its housing, city setup and areas within cities, if you pay enougn attention you can see the fun differences. It might not be as exciting as showing dotonbori, tsutenkaku, shibuya or asasuka, but gives a more realistic view which could be interesting to repeating visitors. I also like that you didn't go for the standard desitination in Kawagoe, being the historic district. Shows a different side of that citiy. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, as you say, there's plenty of the wow factor, touristy stuff on social media. I'd like to show another side, so I'm glad that's coming across. This whole months-long trip has been more about living as a normal Japanese person and seeing the everyday. It's been really interesting for me and helped me further understand a country that I thought I already did. Also Japan is changing a lot right now...
Yeah I genuinely didn't look up a thing about Kawagoe before heading there. Just walked around. But then when I got home I did Google it and the old district looks really cool. I might make a video on it tbh 😂
