    I remember the first time I went to a comic shop and I asked the woman at the counter if she could recomend some batman comics. She handed me year one and I was a bit unsure because she said there was no big Gillian's in it. I bought the book and I must have read it about 3 times that weekend, it was so awesome. Great book to start with

    Ultimate Spider-Man was the book that made me fall in love with comics as a kid,and it was amazing because it was the start of a new universe, so you didn’t have to catch up on anything, and you could read it straight through for the most part without having to get too sidetracked with tie-ins. And it’s just one of the best runs ever written in my opinion. The 133 issues might seem like a lot to a new reader, but it’s amazing.

    Everybody should read Maus.
    It's such a special book that uses the comic genre way different than other comics do, imo.

      Why though? The art and layout are absolutely terrible and in no way represent what the comic form is capable of. Sure it deals with “serious” subject matter, but who cares? Who are you trying to impress?

    Gread vid, man! Kudos for including the Akira along! One of my favourites as it introduces a huge number of characters along the way and manages to hold it all together up till the end. Personally I would recommend Hugo Pratt`s Corto Maltese-series for aventure type of story fans and Jacques Tardi`s The Arctic Marauder too as its kind of pre-steampunk-adventure. Maybe also Al Williamson`s classic Star Wars comics.

    Just got hold of Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing that would be a great intro, if I'd read it as a teen it would have blown my mind also Preacher it's fun easy reading - not sure if teens would appreciate it's very 90's preoccupations and themes though?- and Black Hole or Xd Out. I read Preacher (Watchmen also as a one off during my years in the wilderness) 10 years after having quit Marvel and comics in general, and it was so much fun it brought me back, agreed on Daniel Clowes I'd suggest nearly anything from him.

    • @TheTrollingNiko
      @TheTrollingNiko 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +Harry Pepper To be honest, no in my opinion it's a very bad read for new readers, because it's core theme is the happier, morally correct heroes trying to control the violent younglings. First they'd need to read the stories of those "happier" heroes.
      Imagine that after this book they want to read Superman, so they pick up the New 52. In KC Supes is trying to correct violent assholes. And what is he in New 52? A violent asshole. The reader would probably be confused, seeing Supes as hypocritical.
      I bought KC as one of my first books because, well it even says on the cover "One Of The Greatest Comics Of All Time", but I took an angel's advice to hold on a bit for the same reasons I listed before, and I am eternally grateful to that person. I assure you if I had read it as one of my first books I would have not liked it as much as I love it now :)

    I think it depends a lot on age and what you are looking for. I'm a college kid and I always thought comics were cool as a hobby but I didn't think of them as art, so Watchmen was the perfect first for me.
    I think Ronin, Watchmen, and V for Vendetta are the best to start with for a somewhat well-read adult cuz its legitimate literary awesomeness that says "we are here and we know what we are talking about". When I finished Watchmen and V for Vendetta I was amazed Alan Moore wasn't a household name. They are art just like something the likes of Tom Wolfe or Vonnegut would create.
    Now if you are younger maybe New Frontier or Scott Pilgrim are better for showing the awesomeness with less of the Alan Moore/Frank Miller depth and baggage you gotta swim around in.
    If you are a movie fan and after a (super)hero story or the platonic ideal of an American comic book I'd recommend Dark Knight Returns, Spiderman: Blue, or Red Son. Depends on what you are looking for but the ones I've listed are what I'd tell people cuz they all are truly impressive representatives of the genre.

    To me, DC: The New Frontier is the best starting point for a new comic reader. It's very accessible, but not lacking any depth or scale. Very well written, spans a wide amount of the DCU, and with Darwyn Cooke's best (IMO) art ever.

    I was a new reader and my first REAL COMIC was Civil War it was at the graphic novel section in Barnes and Noble.
    Then I found my first comic book shop and I was WAY OFF PACE I got New Avengers The LAST ISSUE IN VOLUME ONE and JLA Book 7 and 9. AND I GOT NEW AVENGERS THE LAST ISSUE OF VOLUME ONE BEFORE I GOT New Avengers the Complete Collection of Volume One at Books-A-Million. And I don't want this comment to be TOO LONG so I just wanna say I ordered Runaways The Complete Collection of Volume One June 10th and it popped up June 13th and I JUST bought it yesterday and read 3 issues it is VERY GOOD so far.

    I have a fringe recommendation:
    If you are into crime stories and police procedurals, if you are interested in super heroes, but are not completely sold on the concept:
    Try "Gotham Central" by Brubaker and Rucka with amazing art by Lark. It's an awesome comic book. :)

    Really enjoying your video. Great stance on Watchmen. Well defended. Random question: Can you link me to your Computer Speakers that are behind you? The Silver and Black ones. They look great. Perfect Size and Shape. Thank you!! -Mark Dante Troiano

    What are good additions for someone collection the Ultimate universe? I've just started and so far have Ultimate comics Spider-man with Miles Morales volumes one and two. and Ultimate Marvel omnibus. I'm having trouble finding suggestions on the internet without spoilers.

      @SequentialsDeluxe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Slack Nasty Hmm I don't know that much about the ultimate universe honestly. I'm collecting ultimate Spider-Man right now, the Peter Parker stuff before miles, and I also am trying to get the ultimates 1 and 2 which j think are like 12 issues each. Outside of that I haven't heard many good things. I think fantastic four and xmen and thought of as just OK, and the other mini series and tie ins are generally not well loved. For me just the Spider-Man and the original ultimates stuff is enough

    I wonder if Marvel will reprint the Iron Fist Omni since the show is coming out, and Marvel tends to publish based on hype. I have these in the premier HCs. I really want that Omnibus though.

    • @SequentialsDeluxe
      @SequentialsDeluxe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Joe My secret hope is that the reprint it with the second half of that run even though it wasn't written or drawn by the same team. I know there's a completely collection which ties up the series but I'd love to see the omnibus expanded to fit the whole thing

      +Nerdventures I'm right there with you. I do like the Faction stuff more, but the Orson stories are really good too. I also thought the omni had the whole run.

    As someone who is starting to get into comics, this was helpful. Most of these I had on my list to get so this was reassuring. Ill try out the others you mentioned. Is there a Marvel starting point? DC was alot easier to jump into than Marvel unless I am doing it wrong.

    Would you say it's worht to buy the Absolute Batman year one? I'm between getting the deluxe hardcover or the absolute, but I don't see what could the absolute have that's worth the money

    • @SequentialsDeluxe
      @SequentialsDeluxe  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it's worth it unless you could get a ridiculously good deal, the fact that it is the same content twice with different coloring for such a high price makes it a pretty niche product.

      Just came out a week ago already hit second print cos it is really good. A great concept where we are the invaders and the lead is a strong female alien character just very different with great writing and artistry. Also Image's The Hunt, Throwaways, and Renato Jones 1% are awesome new ones. I think you would enjoy them! Thanks for getting back to me and I love your channel!

    Wouldnt you want to read the man without fear first before daredevil?

    • @SequentialsDeluxe
      @SequentialsDeluxe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +QxTx Elite I guess you could, but my personal preference is to read things in the order they were released and not in chronological story order. Man without fear is almost 20 years after this original run and this 70s stuff uses a different origin for Matt and daredevil which is sort of similar missing some bits. You could do either way
